A teaser for my finished kitchen

We are about a week away from finally finishing our fire restoration/home renovation. The backsplash has been going in this week (countertops were done on Friday last) and I wanted to share a picture of one small section. I really like it, and I hope you do, too. There was a lot of angst about the random pattern, but I pressed for it and DH agreed. He's not thrilled, but not horrified and he's hopeful it will grow on him. The tile guys did a really good job, and when DH went to check on them today they were as pleased as punch and taking their own photos, LOL.

This is the area between our pantry (to the left) and our fridge (to the right). We'll have a small toaster oven on this countertop and I hope nothing else.

karen - I love the tile pattern, and the tile! Great job. It looks fantastic. I'm definitely inspired and I can't wait to see the rest of the kitchen.

Sunnyca, I saw that cute bird made from a lightbulb over there--can't wait to see your finished one. Hope you will come back here and post it--I don't remember to go over to Crafts very often. Show us the deer on a rock too, okay? Wascolette- The tile is from Subway ceramics. The pics do not do it justice. It is beautiful, beautiful tile. Very well made porcelain tile. My tile guy even commented on how nice it is. The grout I used is "moonlight". It was the lightess gray grout that my tile guy had available. To everyone- thanks again for all your encouragement and positive thoughts. I'm in the medical field. I know there are a lot of people going through surgery every day. It's so different when it's the most important person in your life going into the OR. I appreciate all your kind words. OMG I'm so excited you have no idea. We've been eating burgers, pizza, and chinese for 8 weeks. If I never see another grilled "anything" it will be too soon. We cooked tonight on the cooktop even without the hood in and used the oven. We went to the grocery and I only bought meals for this week that don't normally use a deep fryer or microwave or grill. I got ingredients for chicken n dumplings, spaghetti and meatballs, a really good potroast, and meatloaf with brown beans, collards with ham, and cornbread. lol It was soooo cool to be able to spread out and work. I am also going to make biscuits in the morning, and country ham and sausage gravy. And omelets maybe.. I dunno, depends on who I can wake up and entice to the table. I need to take a class in order to learn how to operate the appliances.

I LOOOOOOVE IT!!! Very MCM, great tile colors and the randomness is just brilliant. Your cabinets are gorgeous too. Really looking forward to the completion of your reno and more pictures.

LOVE that fiesta ware. My mom got us new dishes from Crate & Barrel - they're white with a blue rim. Of course she bought them 6 months ago and they've been in a box since then. I am anxious to unpack them in my new cabinets!

Your cabinets are beautiful. Is it curly maple? On my monitor it looks like it has horizontal strips - wow. Good look with the last bit.

The cabinets are quarter-sawn maple. They were built with the grain oriented horizontally. There's more of a repeat than I would have wanted, but they do look nice in person. The stripe is apparent IRL, but it looks more obvious on the screen IMO.
