I would pick the mascarello. It was on my short list when I was trying to pick a gold tone. (Went with green!) The colors are very well suited to those beautiful cabinets. The juparana has a nice pattern too but the colors are very subdued. If you are going wild in some other area of design in the kitchen, you might want the juparana.

Mascarello and the most light, neutral backsplash color possible -- an off white that matches exactly the off white in the macarello.

i might be the minor i actually like the first one best because it has the least but just enough brown to go with your cabinets. the mascarello might be too much yellow/gold, that along with the rich brown cabinets will make a very yellow kitchen, again, thats just me!!

@vrinboca: thank you for the affirmation! I don't think it will be wild, but we are planning a Tuscany mural painting on the wall opposite to the kitchen. Likely an outdoor bistro type scene to make you feel like you are eating out doors. You make a good point to make sure the counter top does not clash with that!

@emily_mb: good idea on the back splash - thank you! We were thinking some type of travertine...similar to what is pictured in the finished kitchen.

@paintpanther: you bring up my concern, even though I love the mascarello.

Another vote for the Mascarello. I think it is beautiful and would be great with the wood cabinets.

I love Mascarello. It is very busy and it WILL be the focal point in the kitchen. If you were planning on a different focal point (like your wall mural), you may be better off with the Juparana Persa, which will also be very nice with your cabinets.

I think the JP is more exotic looking, I have seen it in person and it is gorgeous. I am not sure it will flow or contrast with your cabinets. Since you asked for a choice between the two, I would go with the Mas. but it is sooo busy! Is there any other consideration we can see?? Have you looked at Typoon Bordeaux??

The Mascarello slab appears too orange/gold for me. Not sure the JP is right either. I might keep looking if I were you. Those cabinets are some of the prettiest I have ever seen.

I am struggling myself with the Juparana Persa. It was the top pick for both of us (DH and self). But what floor tile to use with it?

I'll be painting the cabinets so their color depends on floor/countertop combination. Also, tile will be used in dining room, hall, entry, and bath--very open floor plan. So the tile needs to be compatible with other furnishings. I'm trying real hard to steer away from pinkish colors. But I haven't found much tile selection in the yellow, gray and green shades that I see in the granite.

Which granite did you decide to use?

I have found only a few posts with this granite--not very popular I guess. I like it a lot but working with it is difficult. By the way, your post has a pretty accurate coloring of JP. My pictures came out too yellow. On top of it all, the granite place cannot get samples of it. So I am working form memory. What a mine field that is!

This color business sure is stressful.

If you're using a mural, travertine and going for a Tuscan feel I think I'd prefer a lighter granite like that in the picture you posted. Both those choices are beautiful and work but I'm not sure how they'll look with a mural. One reason why I'm my opinion leans toward a lighter stone is the richness and beauty of your wood cabs. A contrast would highlight that. Plus, I like the idea of the base countertop color flowing up into the backsplash. Otherwise, you have a bold stone that attempts to steal the show and blends colorwise into the cabs so the wood does not stand out as much. Then contrast between the counter/backsplash and contrast again between the backsplash and cabs (does that make sense?). What are you planning for your floors?

I think the first one is too - busy.

I'd go with the 2nd one. tho i love the colors in the first one. just needs to be a little more flowing and less splotchy.

what's the mural like?

I'd suggest picking one star in the show and have all the other elements take a back seat. If your star is the granite, skip the mural, and a busy floor, and go for a wow factor with the countertop. If your cabinets are the star of the show find a more sedate countertop. I do like the JP ALOT!

The Mascarello is more vibrant. The JP is more calming because it creates a more monotone feeling.
