Anyone want to save my marriage?
Comments (11)My name is Sherri and I am a GJ addict. Now, big_deck, honestly, how can we help you support your addiction when most of us are hiding everything we can in our trunks, every spare closet, under the bed, behind the hot water tank and in our attic, in our underwear drawer, basements and crawl spaces, not to mention the rafters in the garage!??? Oh, lets not forget the laundry room, my DH NEVER goes in there!! (now, dont tell me not one of you have done this!tee-hee) Or its... I'm going to get milk and bread, or .. I really need to refuel my vehicle, be back soon...and then we get to the nearest GS, TS or GW we can find!!! so, all I can tell you is, GJ forum IS AN ADDICTION IN ITSELF!!!!!!!lol!!! Well, on second thought, maybe this is a good idea! Remember the guys on the news that came up with a company providing excuses for everything from missing homework to why-I-cant- come-to-work phone calls and fake Dr.'s slips? Maybe we need to start providing exchange programs for each other to help get the junk we want!! We can vouch for each other! Like last week when I hauled yet another window home and got caught! DH wanted to know just how many extra old windows one person possibly needs and I meekly said...all of them...Yep, I could have used some help on that one! You might have struck on something here, because we are all GJ enablers!!!LOL! I say, go buy the stinkin turtle because you will toss and turn and then probably dream about it if ya dont!!!Been there, done that...... blessings- Sherri...See MoreSave my marriage: please answer this question
Comments (6)Even if the two vegetables you've mentioned COULD cross pollinate, you are also correct in understanding that it is not the VEGGIE (or fruit, or berry, or whatever) that will be affected by successful cross pollination, but the progeny. The genetic information in the seeds. The edible fruit will be normal, but if you plant the seeds who knows what the results would be. (The edible portion of a zucchini is considered a swollen ovary, as with other fruits. Botanically speaking.) Your husband is probably confusing, having heard somewhere that squash of different kinds cross pollinate. It's a misconception held dear by lots of folks!...See MoreSave my marriage - tiny kitchen layout help needed!
Comments (3)So wait, is your drawing both (1) existing walls/doors/windows AND (2) proposed locations of fixtures (sink, stove etc.)? I ask because the gas range appears to be sitting right in the doorway to the dining room. If that's the case, could you explain where everything currently is? In other words, what's the "before" picture? Assuming what your diagram shows is where fixtures and cabinets WILL be in the future, I think with a little tweaking it would be great. Here's what I would suggest: - Like you said, blow out the part of the kitchen/dining room wall that doesn't have cabinets on it (essentially, the bottom half of the wall). - Put a wall behind the stove and the cabinets on either side of the stove. Since your space doesn't have room for an overhang, seating or clearance (i.e. space between the range and people in the dining room), you really would gain nothing from having that be a peninsula that's open to both the kitchen and the DR. But if you let that be a wall, then you gain space in the kitchen for some important stuff: (1) a good vent hood (if you're building a new wall it's very easy/cheap to put in the ductwork for the vent); and (2) wall cabinets on either side of the vent hood, for more storage in the kitchen. Yay! - Instead of a 24" cab to the left of the stove, make it a 12" cab so the stove can move down. As drawn, there's not enough space between the stove and sink. 12" more and you've got an great work space that you'll use all the time--just make sure you don't put any appliances on that counter (coffee maker, toaster), just use it for prep space, and you'll be very happy with it. You could even consider making the cabinet to the left of the stove be 9". I wouldn't go smaller than that because you need some clearance between the range (in particular, the handles on your pans) and the doorway. - I see you want a 24"x18" farmhouse sink. Want to save a LOT of money? Get an Ikea Domsjo farmhouse sink (link below). It's 24" wide, exactly as you want, but it has two HUGE advantages over anything else you're going to find: (1) it's REALLY inexpensive, and (2) it's 27" deep, in other words, you DO NOT have to put any countertop behind it--it goes all the way back to the wall. That makes your counters cheaper and easier to make. Here's a link where you can buy the Domsjo -- the other link shows you how it's installed, so you can see why it makes the countertop simpler: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S49847479/ Here is a link that might be useful:...See MoreSave my marriage?
Comments (25)Oh my gosh, you just can't cover those glorous windows! They are absolutey drop dead gorgeous. I wouldn't do anything to cover them and would only add a valance if you need to add interest. Birdgardener had a great idea to plant tall hedges to block the view in but keep your windows uncovered. My DH is always grumbling about me getting curtains and we live in the country on 3 1/2 acres with nothing but wildlife close by so in my opinion drapes and curtains are not utilitarian just decorative. I can never find window coverings that I like!...See Morebeache
