Will these drawer pulls work style-wise

I bought a dresser on CL for a song but it is early American rock maple and I'm trying to go for a more transitional/modern clean look. Here is a picture of a chest that is similar in color with the same pulls - http://www.berryauctions.com/august_17_2003_images/013S_furniture.JPG.

I want to switch the pulls to something in brushed nickel. These are the only ones I could find with the same spacing as the old pulls (2 1/2" CC). Do you think they would look ok together?

Photo seems to be down.

The pulls are nice and look to be the modern/transitionsl look that is so popular. Is there another photo of the furniture piece? It all depends on the piece.

Thanks - It's funny on the peg board. These ARE new, soft-close cabinets but part of my rationale to the pegs is "a place for everything and everything a place." My daughters have emptying the dishwasher as one of their chores (when we get one back after the remodel - now it's all by hand and they HATE that!) - if we don't use pegs, I'm afraid that a nicely organized system will disintegrate into a randomly piled mess, especially since one is envisioned for Tupperware. The girls have to take a trash-free lunch every day so there is LOTS of use for the little tupperware containers and lids. We will have banks of 27" drawers (under the microwave), 36" drawers under the (oven), 33" drawers (under the island), 24" drawers and then two sets of 21" drawers. I was thinking TWO peg sets - one for the 33" (pyrex, bowls, etc.; would have to cut the 36") and one for the 27" (Tupperware, would have to cut the 30") All the rest would be completely open. Does anyone think this makes sense? On the second issue, I hear you on the knife block. I'm still going to order it in the 18 and will have hubby fit a piece beside it if it slides around. We have a rather rag tag-looking set of knives and an inexpensive knife block now so no need to have that sitting on my pretty granite countertops. Any other tips before we order (tomorrow!) :-) Thanks!

My cab maker said our top drawers will be 4 3/4" and with rails there will be 1 3/4" space in between for hardware. Springroz has 3" space in between and Christine has 6" drawers with 3" in between. That could be the difference. Out of our 26 drawers, only 8 are small top drawers so maybe I should do slab on those. Looking back I do like the look for the top drawer. I was just "scared" that without a bead they may be too plain but I think with everything else that goes on in a kitchen it will probably look great anyway! Just making sure with cab maker all the top drawers are 4 3/4" before I make a final decision : )

Seems to me the objections to having two pulls on kitchen cabinets is more a traditional situation than functional one. Remember, many bedroom dressers have double handles(yes, I am aware the drawers are also wider) and are considered normal. Some of the objections also may have to do with how the person is working, often having something in one hand when opening a drawer for a pot/pan/skillet/etc. One example of this is the French door refrigerator. Transitioning from a single door(conventional or side by side) means changing the way the fridge is opened with something in a hand. Another situation is the way the drawers are built and how the glides are installed. Many newer drawers are not built as sturdily as they used to be and will rack more easily. Drawers with through dovetail construction are much more sturdy than half lap or similar style corner joints, which rely on glue and mechanical fasteners to make the joint. By the same measure, many glides are easier and smoother operating than older types. For myself, I'd rather have two pulls on a wide drawer then one big one. Esthetics.

My personal opinion is the pulls do not work. Perhaps you could try just painting the existing brass pulls with Rust-o-leum to more of a dark bronze color.

I don't see them working either. I could see more regular bin pulls working better if the bottom is like in the second pic. If the scrolly type bottom in the first, I'm not sure.

It's not as ornate as the first picture. The only detailing it has on it is some rounded pieces going down the front right to the outside edge of the drawers. I found several other pulls I liked better but none had the 2 1/2" centers so I don't have to make more holes.

Anyone found a good hardware website to search by hole centers?

Ok, I found some more choices. I could change the color of what I have but it's not really the color that bothers me--it's more of the fussiness.

You might run into a problem with what you are trying to accomplish. Unless you are going to refinish or paint the piece of furniture, the wood behind the hardware will probably be a different color after all those years.

You could try to find a plate to put behind it, but those are generally more traditional in nature.

I like Hardware Hut. They have reasonable prices and a huge selection. I think that a cup pull in a very dark ORB or brushed nickel would work better. Something less elongated in shape . . . a more traditional shape but with a different finish, perhaps.
