Need help choosing a faucet for our kitchen

We're re-doing the kitchen in our WWII era cape cod with a bit of a vintage feel. The cabinets are white, beaded inset and the countertops are soapstone. We haven't settled on flooring yet, but it will likely be dark hardwood. We also have yet to pick our cabinet hardware.

Obviously, we'd like to find a faucet that fits with the overall feel of the room (and the house in general) but I'm feeling really overwhelmed at the moment with all the choices. Does anyone have a recommendation? The kitchen is on the small side (no room for an island) and for space reasons we'll be going with a single-bowl, stainless steel sink. We want good quality but I'd prefer to keep the price under $500 (is that reasonable?).

I'm also struggling a little with what finish to choose. Does it need to match the finish on the cabinet hardware? I'm guessing we'll probably do chrome, stainless or nickel but I'm not sure which goes best with a vintage theme.

Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!
