acid wash?
Comments (15)Hi Slate I use the Sand Blaster in the link. You can get one that sucks sand with a hose cheaper but I like this better. I'm using copper slag and glass for blasting. They are cheap and not dangerous like silica sand. It does a great job of exposing aggregate and experiments on damp just casted concrete are pretty interesting. It can really chew the stuff up. It tears perlite and peat right out of the surface for instant age. Not much different that a wire brush look. I have done anything really spectacular yet as I'm just getting the hang of controlling the thing. I had to get a new compressor as my old one wasn't up to the job. I have a Moai planned to see if I can use the sand blaster to carve it like the winds do. Here is a link that might be useful: Sand Blaster...See MoreFeedback on acid-washed or polished concrete/cement floors
Comments (7)Yes - we have an acid washed concrete floor in the kitchen. (We didn't mean to, when we ripped up the tile to refinish the terrazzo, we learned that the terrazzo did not extend to the kitchen). I think it looks really cool, however, because ours was under tile and the guys did such a crummy job, there are lots of dings and chips in it. And, you can see the scored criss crosses from the old tile. Even with those problems, if we were going for a different look in our kitchen, I would probably like it. However, it just doesn't go at all, so we are going to put something over it, just have to figure out what. Not much help for you, sorry - but did want you to know that I do think it turned out very cool looking, and I think ours would look good in a kitchen or house that had either an older european country style going on, or a more modern industrial loft look....See MoreCan we DIY acid wash our deck?
Comments (2)Sharla,I have a similar problem. My deck is also broomed concrete(love it),unfortunetly a spelt bloody mary and a few other spots had me out "fixing it".After scubbing with detergents the spots where still in the unsealed concrete. So next out came the jug of muratic acid full strengence(big mistake).Spots stayed but smeared and concrete surface tex- ture changed and really stood out.(bad) To make matters worse out came the pressure cleaner,to have any effect on the spots I had to put the nozzle too close to the surface to get (dig) the spots out! Now no spots, but a crappy looking deck everywhere I "fixed"! So to answer you question,my advice(dubious so far)would be if you go with the acid is to dilute it (start at 10 to 1) do small area(back corner) and slowly increase mix if needed to try to achieve desired results. If this fauils check out New Look .com,they have a water base product for raw concrete that will unify the color of your deck.I just recieve a kit that does 350 sf for $140. Haven`t used it yet,so don`t know how good it works? Picked "cloud" color. Check the site an vidio very interesting. Good luck...JR...See MoreNot loving my marble, help!
Comments (118)I love the way the marble looks in my kitchen and island but want to rip it out. Life if way to short to worry about etching staining cooking having friends put their wine on the counter. I hate the upkeep and maintenance of it. I cook every night and hate worrying about a counter. I picked out a beautiful granite and when they came to take the template, the guy said are you crazy changing this beautiful kitchen. i caved in and kept them, it's two months now and I hate having them more each day. Will wait until Christmas and they are gone, found a beautiful white granite. The fabricator said . don't do it, I was warned and hard headed and now it will cost me between 4-5000 to replace it. Crazy me...See Morevickevette
