Experience with 'Natural' cherry finish cabs?

Considering a custom cab with a "natural" cherry finish, no color stain.

Anyone have experience with how this ages and changes? I know

that cherry will tend to darken somewhat but without color stain

does it age pretty evenly?

Any info would be appreciated, thanks!

I, personally, wouldn't have cherry any other way. It's way too beautiful to cover! :-) It darkens over the first few months, and may continue to, but not at the same rate as when it's new. For instance, we did our last kitchen in stages, and when the 2nd section went in, the difference was VERY noticeable. Within a couple months, it all looked the same.

Here are some photos, in case it helps. The doors and end panels for the tall cabinet at the end of the bfast bar, the panels on the face of the bfast bar, and I think the portion over the sink where the light is were put in well after the rest. You can tell how even they all were about a year later.

Do it. My friend has Nat Ch flat panel from Fieldstone. They are drop dead gorgeous. BTW, they put them with a limestone countertop and greenish onyx backsplash - it is stunning.

I am curious about the same thing except that I wanted them in kitchen. Anyone know of a good quality source for unfinished cabinets? Will they be cost effective against low end Home Depot cabinets?

I have Madura Gold with a quarzite backsplash that looks a lot like slate-- maybe it's a bit like your floor. The granite has movement, but not so much that it's too much with the splash, for me at least:

bmorepanic- I've know you're a frequent poster so I was pretty sure you were okay, but I just wanted to be sure! Getting the right tone can be so difficult online. I really like that 1/2 round table, BTW. Is that Scherrs or DIY? Angie- Skytrain, US Navy retired! Went on to fly GIII, but the handle is stuck. Mixed hardwood drawer boxes are one of the Scherrs options that's less expensive than the solid cherry. Here's one of the coolest things about working with Scherrs: I wanted that micro/convection combo wall oven lower than standard because I didn't want to be reaching up and over a hot oven door to pull out a heavy pan, like at my SIL's house. So I talked to Leon and told him about how high I wanted it, and then said, I want the cabinet above to be able to hold full-sized sheet pans (it's got those dividers for sheet pans and pizza trays and a pizza peel and cutting boards), and then make the cabinet above the size of whatever is left over. Then, however high that top cabinet above the wall oven turns out, the ones on top all along the left side have to match that height, whatever it is. Dang, I just remembered that I still need to get glass for those glass-front doors. Obviously I never use anything in there. Also, FYI, if you couldn't tell, the cabinets are all 30" deep with 27" pullouts, uppers 15" deep and set higher off the countertop than normal, 22", so that stuff would fit under them, such as mixer and coffee maker. I really enjoyed reading your reveal. Read it on my iPad this morning lazing in bed and pored over it for a good 1/2 hour. It was more engaging than a book, lol. I totally LOVE your new kitchen, and this is one of the best reveals I've seen. Enjoyed reading the goals you had for the new kitchen, seeing how all your choices came together, the peeks inside your drawers and doors, and reading about the things you decided that others might consider crazy. Not crazy at all! The whole point of doing the research is to consider the alternatives and then choose what works for YOU. While I might not have made all those same decisions, you wouldn't have made the ones I chose either. That's rather the point, right? You don't live in my kitchen and I don't live in yours, LOL. There is something very freeing about deciding what works for you and just going regardless of trends. And I totally get where you're coming from on the slide in range with glass top. I've had a glass top range in the past and really liked it. Not everyone needs or wants a spendy induction or gas range so I say good for you!! Things I particularly admire: The new layout moving the fridge wall and getting a wider opening. The great new views from your sink and peninsula area -- what a difference that makes. Your drop-dead gorgeous cabinets! Your lovely granite. Drawers and the use of space -- the mostly 4-drawer bases without a lot of stacking was a wise choice. The new fireplace wall (wow, what a difference the black paint makes). And a small thing, but I like that you carried the toekick past the dishwasher, it looks really nice. Great job. Enjoy your new kitchen and may it bring you many years of new and happy memories!

rhome...thanks for the pics. Those cabinets are so pretty and
seem to have really nice shading to them.
Its funny the layout of sink-stove-refrig is exactly how my
current kitchen is set-up. Much too tight cooking corner.

lacuisine...thanks and the colors you mention sound a lot
like what I am going for. Although my island will have a greenish
stain. One of the only things I am sure of!

You must mean our floor, Wallycat? That is 2 colors of Wilsonart Estate Plus laminate click-together tile. It wore like iron, seemingly indestructible. Looked new when we moved, after 7 or so years of 3 dogs and up to 8 busy kids. We don't have a take-your-shoes-off home, so it wasn't babied...Lots of sand and dirt tracked in and lots of little boys trucks, etc. ran across it...even roller blades. I sure miss it when DH hyperventilates about a new scratch in our Brazilian Cherry floors in this house. ;-)
