Experience with 'Natural' cherry finish cabs?

Considering a custom cab with a "natural" cherry finish, no color stain.

Anyone have experience with how this ages and changes? I know

that cherry will tend to darken somewhat but without color stain

does it age pretty evenly?

Any info would be appreciated, thanks!

I, personally, wouldn't have cherry any other way. It's way too beautiful to cover! :-) It darkens over the first few months, and may continue to, but not at the same rate as when it's new. For instance, we did our last kitchen in stages, and when the 2nd section went in, the difference was VERY noticeable. Within a couple months, it all looked the same.

Here are some photos, in case it helps. The doors and end panels for the tall cabinet at the end of the bfast bar, the panels on the face of the bfast bar, and I think the portion over the sink where the light is were put in well after the rest. You can tell how even they all were about a year later.

Do it. My friend has Nat Ch flat panel from Fieldstone. They are drop dead gorgeous. BTW, they put them with a limestone countertop and greenish onyx backsplash - it is stunning.

I am curious about the same thing except that I wanted them in kitchen. Anyone know of a good quality source for unfinished cabinets? Will they be cost effective against low end Home Depot cabinets?

Yes, that is the Barker clear finish. We had considered finishing them ourselves but when we got the finished samples and saw how flawless and tough the finish was we decided it was well worth letting them do it.

I have Madura Gold with a quarzite backsplash that looks a lot like slate-- maybe it's a bit like your floor. The granite has movement, but not so much that it's too much with the splash, for me at least:

All these cabinets are lovely! AthomeinVA (where in VA?), given the fact the primary colors to make brown are red and green, it seems every time I try a brown stain, the red dominates and it makes it more. Tried a gray, but ended up stripping it right off. Today I paste waxed the cabinets that won't be near heat and polyacryliced the cabinets that will be near the stove. I absolutely love the color by itslef. Granted, some are more naturally red than other pieces, but I can work with it. I'm having such a mish-mash of wood tones in my kitchen, I'll not worry about it. Or... it'll drive me nuts. Here are a couple of the drawers. Obviously the darkest is the existing finish, the left drawer is just stripped and sanded, then the smaller drawer is waxed. I am loving it. Oh - before someone gets all wigged about waxing, remember 1) I live alone, 2) I barely cook, and 3) many of these cabs will continue along the dining area wall, where there isn't much happening at all. Not even dining. And they weren't built in 1955. That's the job number. I took off a countertop and there, Raul had signed the cabinet with the date of 1990. Cool. but oh, the grease...

rhome...thanks for the pics. Those cabinets are so pretty and
seem to have really nice shading to them.
Its funny the layout of sink-stove-refrig is exactly how my
current kitchen is set-up. Much too tight cooking corner.

lacuisine...thanks and the colors you mention sound a lot
like what I am going for. Although my island will have a greenish
stain. One of the only things I am sure of!

You must mean our floor, Wallycat? That is 2 colors of Wilsonart Estate Plus laminate click-together tile. It wore like iron, seemingly indestructible. Looked new when we moved, after 7 or so years of 3 dogs and up to 8 busy kids. We don't have a take-your-shoes-off home, so it wasn't babied...Lots of sand and dirt tracked in and lots of little boys trucks, etc. ran across it...even roller blades. I sure miss it when DH hyperventilates about a new scratch in our Brazilian Cherry floors in this house. ;-)
