That does look like an awkward spot to try and put in a fixture. I'm with you....I'd consider sconces, too. Is the ceiling flat directly above where the junction box is now? If so, how bout a recessed can light in the ceiling, instead? You could also use a can light that has a diffuser on it that would aim the lighting onto the wall. Then, The mirror would reflect it back into the room.

I hadn't thought about that! (That's why I love the forum!) Yes, the ceiling above is flat. We are putting in slats of cedar planks, but don't have them all in yet, so that wouldn't be a very hard job. I think I even have a can light kit!

What about a pendant hanging over the sink? I really like the idea of changing out the glass for a splash of color in the room.

Also, is there a rule of thumb on how wide the mirror should be over the cabinet? Can it be the same width (about 28")? I found a really pretty one on sale, but it is just as wide as the vanity.

I'm working on this room over the weekend, so I'll take some more pictures when it's a little more put together for a better perspective.

And here is the bathroom for the basement that is 99% finished (I need another coat of poly on the door and a little bit of caulking). The color really isn't as bright as the pictures show, but I really like it. The funny thing is, before we did our remodel, I yanked out all the burnt orange in the house. Carpet, counter tops, all orange. Then here I go painting the walls that same color! At least it will be fairly easy to change when I get tired of it. I really like how this room came out. I couldn't find a shower curtain that I really liked under $100, so I made this one from fabric remnants I already had.
