X-Post: My 'reclaimed' Mahogany Door

You guys are patient with my OT posts. I appreciate it.

I wanted to share today's accomplishment. I've been working on this on and on for awhile.

I have a solid mahogany front door and sidelights. The 2nd door, sans sidelights, is also mahogany. Between 2006 and 08, I stained and polyed, again and again. Probably 10 different coats. I HATED it. STBX wanted dark. Well, no one mentioned I had to wipe the stain off. So, this butt-ugly, ridiculously expensive, mahogany door was bound for the reuse center unless I could figure something out.

So, having nothing to lose, and stain being unstrippable, I got out my handy-dandy sander and went at it. Today I coated it with Australian Timber Oil and IT IS AMAZING!.

The dark strip is the butt-ugly brown it was, as are the sidelights I hacked up when I thought I could strip it. I have to get a detail sander, so this tiny part isn't sealed. I'm going to go after it. In the meanwhile, there are tiny parts of the stain still there, which is another reason I'm calling it "reclaimed!" Another media word.

So...

I hope you can see it on these cell cameras.
