Bar pulls - lengths???

I am doing Shaker doors on top and slab drawers on my bottom cabinets. I want the contemporary look of the long bar pulls that almost go the length of the drawer or door. I am placing the pulls all horizontally, even on the doors. I figure I allow about 2" or 3" on either side of the pull but my cabinets are all sorts of widths (15, 18, 19, 23, 24, 25) and I am having a hard time finding pulls that come in all sizes with the same manufacturer. I am trying to buy these myself then my cabinet maker will install them for me for $150, otherwise they are charging me $625 for pulls and install which sounds too much to me. Can anyone offer opinions on how much space should be on either side of pull, if I can make some 2" and 3" if I can't find all sizes (and if it will really stand out), if the ones going on the shaker doors have to fall within the recessed panel width, or where I can find a reasonably priced manufacturer with all sizes? THANKS!!!

Not sure about the spacing question, but a good place to buy the long contemporary pulls is on Ebay, if you mean the SS euro style pulls. There are a couple of dealers on Ebay and most people have had good experience. We just bought a whole bunch of sizes ( from 3" to 24") from ebay seller "contempo_living". Did our whole kitchen for about $200 (would have cost $600+ at a bricks and mortar retail store).

I will second what pussuskattus suggested...although it is definitely more work/time, we found that it was very worthwhile to mock up the drawers and try out our handles that way. We ordered various sample sizes of our handles and DH cut some scrap wood planks in the lengths of our drawers. We then just placed the handles on each board and it was VERY quick and easy to determine which size to go with. It was surprising what we found...definitely some different outcomes than what we had thought before mocking up. There would be no need to cut wood, though...could easily just use posterboard or scrap cardboard from a shipping box. And the ribbon idea would be easy, too. Would save the step of buying the pulls if you don't know for sure yet what you want. Good idea for next time! Good luck with your search on the vintage pulls!

Viking: We are putting on 6" pulls for all the 24" cabs (we have only upper cabs) and 8" pulls for the 27 inch drawers (for cutlery and pots and pans). I wondered the same thing as far as what common lengths to use, etc. and finally ended up getting a couple of pulls that we liked in the 6" and 8" lengths and they were perfect! We have a small kitchen so didn't have to deal with different size cabs or drawers.

We have chosen knobs for the doors and pulls for the drawers. My husband was really 'pulling' for all knobs so he'd only have to drill one hole rather than centering multiple holes and matching them up later if I switch pulls. I won this one because I found pulls cooler than what I saw originally and they were VERY inexpensive and very heavy. I like the look of mixing them up to draw your attention to the differences. Choosing all the same style makes them all blend together and looks too 'matchy-matchy' for my taste. I think you will like having different style hardware; keeps it interesting. I matched the metal of ours to the sink & faucet so the total space looks unified, yet has enough variation to keep interest.

Cup pulls and bar pulls together?

We mixed them, but used a latch on the lower cabinet next to the cup pulls. On the opposite side of the room, all of the drawers and cabinets use bar pulls. I honestly can't remember why we decided that anymore--since you'll notice the upper cabinets over the cup pulls have bar pulls. I think I ordered latches for the uppers and my husband changed his mind at the last minute? (We always planned all bar pulls for the gray cabinets, though.) Maybe other people think it clashes (I won't take it personally!), but it doesn't bother me at all. We did choose pretty traditional-looking pulls, though--not sure how well this would work with the more modern style.

We picked up all of our bar pulls at AH Turf. They ranged anywhere from 2-6 dollars per bar for satin nickel bar pulls.

JABELONE - How is the quality of contempo_livings pulls? Do they look lusterous or dull?
Going by contempo's sizes I can do all my cabinets (even and odd widths) and have either 2.5" or 3" of space on either side of the pull, I don't think having both spaces that close that will stand out too much. Thanks again everyone!

The quality of contempo-living pulls is good. I would say they are as good as the ones at Home Depot (which I believe are Amerock brand). Solid quality feel to them, even the longer ones don't flex like some we saw elsewhere. They are brushed though, so I wouldn't describe them as lusterous.

The 24 inch pull is $7.50 I think. We saw the same pull run from $30 up to $75. You can tell from Ebay buyers feedback that most people are very satisfied, and I would include us in that group. For the price, they are unbeatable, and no one will know you saved so much on the handles.

Here's a pic of the longer handles on our island. Excuse the mess, we are renovating of course, and don't have countertops yet either.

We did all horizontal bar bulls as well, doors too. We also wanted a longer, more modern look, so we tried to average the length to be 3/4's of the width of the door. Some are a bit more, some are a bit less, but no one has complained. We went with the Princetonian from Top Knobs.
