I can't make you feel better, but I can give you a "misery loves company" pat on the back. Our demo was in mid-May so it's been 2 months since we've had a working kitchen. I am SO tired of eating other people's food - eating out or at family members' homes. I am a neat freak and blew up at my hubby yesterday as we're using our master bedroom as sort of a pseudo-apartment.

I'm tired of looking at mess, tired of delays. I'm tired of excuses - our granite was cut last Friday and our install date isn't until August 7 so that is 3 WEEKS WAIT and delays everything again, and no one can explain to me why!!! I just want our home back.

I feel you, I really feel for you.

It's like being pregnant and giving birth. Months of planning, obsessing, worrying, reading about daily prenatal development, taking the right vitamins, then the baby arrives... poop everywhere. Crying, eating, and lots of dirty laundry. It gets better fast.

Yes, you can have wine. It helps to go into a room with your computer and plans, close the door, and daydream over what it will look like or obsess over a decision you didn't make yet, like knobs and pulls. Take a picture, e-mail it to your friends, start an online photo account and upload your picture, plans, and choices. Use the excuse to get out of the house - anywhere!

fellow neat freak here!!! i'm trying to be as calm as i can about the mess but i'm sure i will blow up at my husband AT LEAST a few times....poor guy!!

We are starting on week nine. After about three or four weeks you just become numb and say what the hell. Just as we started Lowes had a sale on charcoal so I bought six bags. We also bought a two burner electric hot plate from Target which the contractor has on a piece of plywood between two saw horses which he moves as needed and an electric tea kettle. The refrig,microwave and a large sized counter oven are in the garage and my wife has a separate room where she raises canaries that has a double sink in it to wash dishes. Last night we had grilled flat iron steak,Greek salad made with fresh homegrown veggies,locally grown sweet corn and a grilled peach for desert. Breakfast was scrambled eggs with ham,cheese and fresh dill,low fat turkey sausage and fresh fruit. Granted it is inconvenient making about a dozen trips to the garage in order to make every meal but we are surviving. Having your frig in the garage certainly cuts down on the snacking.

I know how you feel. The mess and the dust are just too much. It's the start of week 4 and we still don't have a single cabinet installed(we're DIY and have been out of town twice for a total of 9 days since starting)

Without a kitchen and house crammed w/ boxes, it has been very easy for boys and DH to just leave random stuff everywhere. The other day I made pad thai(from scratch on the grill's side burner) After running inside a million times, I turned to DH with a couple of bottles and said "Can you put these away" and he asks "you mean in the box?" Grrrr. Lack of cupboards does not mean we can leave everything out.

Our 8-week remodel ended up taking a year. By the time the kitchen was done I was so used to utility shelves everywhere and so deflated it took me forever to find new places for everything and move them back. Still, it's 18 months from when we started now and just a memory. In fact, the memory of all of that is part of what we've achieved and what makes my new kitchen a joy to me.

I would get a nice big HEPA filter. Run it all the time to get the smells and dust out of the air. And have a long talk with your contractor and make sure he understands that leaving the construction site clean is part of the job. My GC is very fussy and was bigger on making sure that his crews and subs understood that than I was.

It's also good to take the occasional long drive to a really nice place -- whatever it is like a spot in the woods or a funky old bookstore or a spa. A little retail therapy and a good meal help too.

It really WILL come to an end and it really will be wonderful.

We're starting week number....I can't count that high, but almost TWO FREAKING YEARS!!!!

No one worked Thurs, Friday or today (ok wait my artist guy did but no plumber or cabinets or floor or paint or walls or electric...) I called for the updated window pricing (a week late) and was told that I wasn't the customer, he'd have to speak with my cabinet guy to give me any real details (we literally spend millions of dollars there...tomorrow he'll know who the real customer is)

Tile is on the tub deck, third try, it's not set with an even reveal...I called the tile guy crying and had to hang up...more tile to fed ex from California.

Other tile that was supposed to be fedexed two weeks ago, still not here, they forgot, but it will be here in a few weeks "my arse" was my reply...one thing went right, it will be arriving on a plane Wed morning.

We had to move from our house when the plumber accidently removed the last bathroom...we then went to the hood in a short term rental, then gave up and bought another house, it's needing a complete remodel...we've been basically camping for a year.

Feel better??? (I do after typing all of that). I started on the wine at 4:10 my time and will be continuing until 4:10 am :OP

I feel for you, too. My renovation started end of May and there have been nothing but problems since--I feel as if I'm hemorrhaging money sometimes. For me the best therapy is to log onto the computer and read the kitchen forum. I love seeing the finished kitchens (proof that the reno sagas end and beautiful kitchens result), and, to be honest, I like hearing about other people's kitchen problems bc sometimes they make mine seem not so bad :)

Oh, and by the way, peel and stick zippers have saved my sanity re the dust and mess. They work great, and I learned about them on this forum. (see link below)

these horror stories will most certainly give me nightmares tonight......why can't these things just go as planned???? i guess the good news is that my expectations are low as far as a timeline so maybe i can only be pleasantly suprised?!@@^&@???
