Im not an expert, but just based on how I like to cook and prep , I might move the fridge and broom pullout off to one end so you can replace some of those narrower cabinets for wider ones - it will be cheaper and give you more storage. Or make the cabinets to the right of the broom pullout a tall pantry. Or make that whole wall tall storage. You wouldnt have set down space right next to the fridge, but the countertop across the aisle IMO is more convenient when you have the fridge doors open anyway.

Are you set on having your sink centered under the window? If not, Id swap the sink and DW so you have a wider prep area between the sink and stove. I'd leave a little set down space to the right of the sink - whatever you need for sink set down space - IE drying dishes. Right now your larges span of countertop is farthest from your stove. If you were prepping there and someone was at the sink, you'd constantly be walking around them.

I think joyjoyjoy makes some good points. I'd move the broom closet to the left and then move the fridge down and then place the 15" cabinet on the right side of fridge.

I would also give yourself more space near the range as well.

Can you expand some into the sunroom?

How are you planning to use the 15" of cabinet to the right of the broom closet? I can see that it might be useful as a message center, but that doesn't seem to be high on your list of priorities. I would nudge the fridge rightward to get as much continuous countertop as you can.

If I'm matching up the second photo and the proposed floorplan, you are essentially popping in the stove where the fridge is currently located. I had a stove in a corner once in a tiny apartment kitchen and it was a real pain to use, because of the lack of elbow room and landing space on either side of the stove. What is that 6-inch cabinet to the right of the stove? Could you move that over to the left, and make it bigger?

Third time's a charm...I hope! This is my 3rd try and about an hour and a half at posting this. Computer, site, DSL...Something aggravating...ANYway...

I'm worried about the peninsula pinching the table and chairs and your elbow room at the stove. I also would give up a dedicated trash cab and the little 6" one in a kitchen with the limited storage this one offers you. The trash can go under the sink? I can't remember everything I wrote before, but here is a plan to illustrate...Bench to give you more room by the stove and the table and chairs more space, too. Expanded cab sizes on the fridge wall. I think a 30" apron front sink needs only a 30" cab. I like the dw on the side it's on, even though I see the shortage of prep space. It keeps the dishes and dw together, and the possibly open dw door out of the path of the busy cook. If you wanted, you could keep a cart at one end of the fridge wall or in the sunroom to bring in and use to the left of the stove, like the peninsula, when necessary/on occasion. I'd prefer that to a flip up or down counter. That can't help but block access to something when folded? Anyway, the plan:

Thanks so much for the input, and thanks rhome for the marked up drawing! Joy - I tried working at the counter as if I moved swapped the sink/dw. Won't work with the view. And I am hoping to centralize my every day dishes in that back corner. But I did like the extra prep.

I had originally thought maybe a pull out pantry next to fridge, but then I thought I would need the counter space next to the fridge, so I thought I could put cabinets down to the counter am going to sketch it up with the fridge pushed over too. Not sure what I am going to do with the 15" cabinet. I should really sit down and plan out where all our current stuff will go. We do have the 24"/ 12" deep pantry which we'll relocate into the sunroom, but I could really use more pantry space.

Love the suggestion of the bench and extra storage into the dining room, in lieu of a flip up counter or bar. We were so sold on some kind of "breakfast bar", but it probably would crowd too much.

And we could expand into sunroom, but I think with the exterior wall and step down into it, it would be too expensive at this time, for our limited project.

So good to have a many sets of eyes! And I think we can move the trash to under the sink.

If I do move the fridge over, does it make sense to get a single door fridge instead?

If you move the fridge, a one-door style would enable you to use the side counter for landing space. A French door is better if there is counter across from the fridge for that. And you have plenty of room for the full door swing.

I updated the design based on rhomes markups/ other suggestions. I still think the counter looks small next to the fridge, but I will have a 12" counter in front of the pantry.

Think this might work? Decided to keep the french door fridge since we only have a 4 aisle for traffic and working.

I still think you need more drawers instead of 18" dedicated to trash...but it's your kitchen!

Think about how much storage you actually gain by having that cabinet come down to the counter instead of having a regular upper to see if you'd rather keep it or have more counter space by the fridge. Also figure out where you'll have things like coffee maker, toaster, mixer, and/or anything else you might like to have on the counter.

Not sure I'd like the change in upper cabinets on each side of the range... And if you can, it'll be visually nicer and more comfortable to try to get the same distance between upper cabinet and window on each side of the window. Might not be possible and keep the cabinets decently balanced, but that blank space difference will jump out at you, I think.

Is your ceiling lower in the dining room? I'd rework the cabinet sizes to get that bench nice and square with the window... and then balance the upper cabinets like Rhome suggests...

Honestly, I feel SO much better about the design with your input. Infinitely better! My drawing is a bit skewed, but I think you are both right.

I fixed the gap between the window on the base and wall cabinets, and changed the cabinet to the left of the range to be the same style as the right? 4" between both wall cabinets and wall. I think that's what you meant. The dining room has a plaster crown moulding that would be nice to maintain where we can. Kitchen on south wall has a 3" soffit.

I also raised the bottom of the glass cabinets and book shelf to 21" from counter to get more space to use mini appliances- might not keep that, but thought I'd see how it looked. Also, lowered cabinet to left of bench to make more accessible if seated there (32" high?).

Toaster oven, Microwave and Coffee Maker will all go in Sunroom I think.

As for garbage, may still put under sink. But wanted to have a place if I think I need a bigger space. Our current sink cabinet is packed with cleaning supplies, and not sure I have another place for them.

I am also thinking that maybe I could put baking pans above the broom niche? 6" should be wide enough for some baking sheets?. And I haven't really worked out where things will go, but probably will use drawers instead of doors in 36" cabinet next to fridge.

Here is revised south wall. Revised wall cabinet to left of range to be 27".

I think its going to be super cute! I think the different sized uppers would be less obvious if you flip flopped them - so the larger cabinets were on the sink side. Not sure if that would create soffit/molding issues though.

Here's what I am planning to do under my sink. (link below). I am getting the Ikea sink and base and it will be mismatched, on purpose, with my other cabinets. We wont have a disposal, and we will mount the plumbing as close to the sink and back all as possible - and down one side. I've recently made the switch to home made all natural cleaners and its really reduced the amount of clutter under my sinks.

You've come a long way, I think, and I am liking that whole wall working as one, yet as 2 rooms.

If you wanted to have equally-sized upper doors on each side of the range, you could reduce the left to match the right, and add a small cabinet...Little cubbies for display, spices, cookbooks? Not sure if you have that much room. Or if you didn't mind 'wasting' about 3 inches, you could center the range in those cabs and put trim or something on each side of the range and hood so you get the balance/symmetry...making the cabs on the left the same size as those on the right. I don't know if that will work with your transition from soffit to molding, though. I hope I'm making sense. Just a suggestion to tweak what is already pretty good, as is.
