Probably not. I'd play with the percentages on one of those tile tools, or even take pics of the tile colors and make copies to cut apart and play with if you have to. Often a little of one, either the darkest or the lightest, or both, because of their impact... goes a long way. I did a random pattern with my mosaic tiles with more colors. I started with 2 as a base, then mixed a few of the others in. Ignore the little bits of stronger color and see only the calmer parts. Also, with the quartzite tiles behind my stove, that were naturally a mix, and I didn't mess with it much... I found that once it was up, the dark ones really stood out and dominated, and I wished I'd used fewer. In your case the white might work that same way. Having a few scattered about might be just what you need to connect with your white sink and trim, and brighten it up with little surprises, while the rest is a more subdued mix. I would probably start by choosing one of Boxerpup's examples that you like best and trying to replicate it in numbers and proportions of colors, and tones.

I am going to take pictures and upload them later today - headed over there right now - but my builder is suggesting using the 3x6 bullnose on the long edge and running it perpendicular. I know that is how this is usually done in a bathroom but what about a backsplash? Our counters are L shaped with the fridge at one end so this is only an issue at one end (the open one). The other option would be to use another one of their options for trimming it out on the end, like a molding of some sort, but I don't know that they would have one that would work. Any thoughts? Do people usually just run one edge of perpendicular bullnose? I guess theoretically that could be cut down to a super skinny bullnose but that may look even worse. Or a pencil liner???? olivertwist - thank you-it is my favorite thing in our kitchen. It was easy to install also (it comes on a mesh). I think they have 4 variations, so check the link to see if there is another that you like better. They are all quite different. Be sure you get samples in person. You can also 'enhance' it with a certain kind of sealer that deepens it but we chose not to. I wouldn't say a lot of green. When I look at it I see quite a bit of variation but if I had to pick one color that stood out I think the slate gray does because its darker than the others. There are red (some moving into a pink if you can believe that) tones, clay or an olive green color, orange/rust. I have attached a couple of close ups I just took. The first one is with flash and the under cabinet lights on. The next is with the uc lights off but the kitchen light is on. If you want one in natural light I can catch one tomorrow since it's already pitch dark out.

Yes, subway tiles have been done so much…why? because they are a default. Large, small, white, stainless, glass, the subway tile will continue into the next century, along with the hex and black dot. The ultimate “little black dress” for a bath or kitchen. (Boston knows its subway tile.) Fish scale…great, as well. Kind of beachy or maybe a nod to art deco. Watch out though for the color of the grout you use. It is more noticeable with fish scale than with subway.
