I think I like it! Looks lovely.

The open dishwasher might be a pain while trying to get from cooktop to fridge, but you have nice wide aisles to try to help that.

Where is your dish storage? In the corner to the rt of the fridge? Again, might be some cross traffic if someone is clearing the dw while you're cooking, but there are always compromises.

I like the general layout...but how wide are the aisles? I couldn't find measurements on the drawings. Be sure you have enough room b/w the refrigerator & island and the ovens & island to be able to open the doors and stand in front of...particularly the ovens (or in the case of the bottom oven, open the door & lean over to get something out).

I was wondering, though, what's on the other side of the island, in the bottom right corner of the 3rd picture?

we have 42" min between the cabinets and the island. 52" between the cooktop and island. The island had a dishwasher, sink and recycle drawer

Rhome, good question. We are thinking about the large cabinets to the left and right of the cooktop. Clearly one side will be for pots/pans, the other could work with dishes, also on the top cabinets to the left and right of the hood.

Also we have two panties at either end of the wall. We also have three cabinets on the opposite wall that I did not post - you can see it in the top view. We are still playing with that one. It may have a beverage center and/or wine rack built into it. Right now it came out more expensive that we want. Over $6K for cabinets alone for that little area. We are thinking maybe an antique to break things up.

Current plan is painted cabinets along the wall and walnut for the island. We will probably have to have the island custom made due to the wood type. If not, it will end up a dark cherry.

That layout has a lot going for it. I think it looks great.

Depending on what happens with your cooktop, you might need to make sure your hood will pull in enough of the rising steam, etc. from cooking to make sure that it doesn't settle on the glass-fronted cabinets. Some people recommend that the hood extend to be larger than the cooktop size.

Also, might be worth asking if and where any spacers might be needed. It affected my decision on some cabinet sizes and caused me to resize some other stuff.

Also, I couldn't really figure out what the upper cabinets neighboring the your corner would be like. To me, it seemed like they might be narrow and a bit hard to reach.

Also, will you have undercabinet lighting? If yes, will you need a light rail and how large will it need to be? (This may depend on the type of cabinets you choose.)

Corner base cabinet - Looks like you thought out the hinge side but make sure that you have chosen it. (as opposed to it being the designer's choice.)

Do you have a nearby broom closet or a place to store a [collapsible] step-stool (to reach those high shelves)?

Are those triangular cabinets in your island? I know one is for trash. Will those places be useful or better reconfigured? If the end that is directly opposite the ovens had a base that opened there, maybe that would be helpful. The rest of the space between the sink and this new cabinet would be for trash and whatever else fits.

Is your cooktop on an outside wall or venting up and out?
How far is the space from the 18"cab to the right of the cooktop to the island? looks tight.
Just doublecheck to make sure that 39" diagonal corner cabinet can fit in through the doorways of your house.
If it's an issue they can order the toekick loose.
Also make sure the hardware on the corner cab doesn't interfere with the drawer opening on either side.
I would suggest hinging on the left so you can open door for pots and pans for range?
Wrap the toekick on the glass cab on island with a nice furniture base, flush toekick, maybe arch the toe instead?
I wouldn't do a raised bar on the island, unless your doing two different materials, it's interesting enough and keeping it all one level gives you more buffet/serving room.
Are you interested in any other design suggestions at this point or are you definite about your choices?

At first glance, I thought I was looking at my kitchen. I have almost the same plan, with the oven and the fridge reversed.

I'm not the best at reading plans, but I like it. If the dishwasher needs more space, you can get a dish drawer, which takes up less space when it is open.

I have the same arrangement of cook top, hood and glass doors flanking the hood. No problems with steam, however, its true that a hood is better when its a bit bigger than the cook top. Mine is not, and I get by, but would be better with a wider hood.

I like the sink in the island opposite the cook top. I have the same set-up. I do end up with wet hands splashing the floor when I move across from the sink back to the cook top. My flooring does not show it at all as it is all.

If you get two dish drawers, you will hardly ever have a mess in the sink, if that is the consideration for the two tier island.

This is an attractive and generally very functional design. I love the flow and I particularly love the look of the glass-front base cabinets as the focal point as you enter. That's a nice touch and I think it will look great filled with china or doo dads or even cookbooks.

The only thing I would not like living with in your design is the 52" between the island and cooktop. In fact, I'd hate it. I have 43" now and wish that space was smaller. What about straightening that side of the island so that the island angles are only on the seating side? If it were straight across, starting at the end in front of the oven and extending almost right along the measurement line in your drawing, I'd like it a lot better. That would also eliminate one of the main complaints about two-level islands, because it would add a significant amount of work space. Actually, have you considered just making the island one level? As it is, it doesn't really serve the purpose of hiding what's in the sink, because the lowered part is the part you see coming from the next room. Generally the "hiding" function is the main reason people want two-level islands. Without that function, a single level seems to be a better choice.

*100% agreement on the size of the hood. I am looking for a 27" deep and 42" wide. The cooktop is 36" wide. I also am looking into how much cfm I really need. The manufacture recommends 900 cfm based on all 6 burners going at full. I am not sure how practical that is and really want something as quit as possible. I do like "power " though.. In any case, I need to look into make up air requirements if we go 900-1200 cfm
With regard to cabinet size neighboring the corner, we have a 30" wall cabinet will glass mullins at the top and an 18" base between the refrigerator and corner cabinet. I think we are ok there.
Under counter lighting is still an open issue. We have halogen lights not and I do not like the fact they get so hot. I will be looking into LED. I am not sure what a light rail is but will check. I specÂd false bottoms on my last kitchen and installed the halogens in it.
The triangular cabinets bother me as well. I believe optimization is possible but applaud the designer for what she came up with. My ideas were crummy compared to what she came up with. I will take this concept to a custom cabinet builder to see about further optimizing the design. I do want more of a furniture look and know the right person who can do it.

We have ~37" from the 18" cab on the right of the cooktop to the island. Smaller than the recommended 42" but our thoughts were this will not be a well traveled area or have more than 1 person at a time there. Do you think its too small?
Good question on the corner cabinet size. Fortunately the answer is yes. We have a 8Â French door at the end of the kitchen. Right now IÂm stressing on how I am going to get the refrigerator in. ItÂs HEAVY and I am going to have to take it in through that door. There is a deck outside with stairsÂ
Great ideas on the toe kick. We want a furniture look for the island and will incorporate your idea. We are open to other ideas on the island. The designer came up with this concept. My ideas were frankly crummy by comparison. IÂm not sure what you mean by 2 different materials but the plan is to have cream colored cabinets along the wall and a "wood" finish island  possibly walnut. We would have liked cherry but we have so much wood in the house now we are concerned what it would look like. The entire downstairs is amendoim and we have redwood ceilings. (They are sloped ceilings  the short end is where the cooktop is.)

LOL, I have been watching this website for months before setting pen to paper. You may have been the inspiration if you posted pictures of your kitchen. We have looked at so many books and pictures I have lost track. I am confused as to what a dish drawer is though. Is that a dishwasher that looks like drawers. If so, the plan is to get one but I was going to wait until my Bosch got a bit older. Its only 1-2 years old and in perfect condition. We do not currently live in this house. We bought it several years ago with the intent on fixing it up and retiring there. Its currently used as a weekend retreat and gets rented out for vacation rentals. After the remodel, no more rentals planned. I would be really ticked if something happened and DW would not let me hear the end of it.

The boss (DW) will be happy to read your comments on the glass base cabinets. We debated a beverage center there and she won. It does have a good size landing area there. We did move two a two-level island with the idea of eating there. The kithen originally had a peninsula and a kitchen table on the other side. It resulted in a small kitchen and a small eating area.
IÂm not sure what to do about the 52". Some say too small, some too big. The boss thinks I can do more in the kitchen to help though. We are still going back and forth on the island. I like the added height for bar stools as mentioned earlier and the raised level was a consideration for hiding the dished from the main view in. We want the range hood to be the strong focal point.

I love your layout in theory. On paper it looks great -- so great that I kept trying to make it work on graph paper for my similarly sized kitchen and couldn't get the island configuration to work. Which leads me to my question for you about the size and shape of your island and your clearances. I love your island and would love to do something similar, but the 14' space doesn't seem to allow that curved portion without causing very narrow clearances on that end.

By my calculations, your room is about 18.5 feet long and 14 feet wide. Taking away 2 feet for the cabinets on the long run and 1.5 feet for the narrow cabinets at the bottom corner, this leaves 10.5 feet in the middle for two aisles and the island. For the side with seating on it, you will need 5 feet. This leaves you only 5.5 feet for the aisle and island with bar. Assuming your island is 2 feet deep plus a 12'' overhang, you only have 2.5 feet clearance between the cabinets on the long run and the island, not 42''. Are you sure you have enough room for those narrow cabinets plus the seating?

I would love to see more details of your island.

was designed. I was concerned about how much room there was in the aisle behind the chairs. Maybe I was off but will certainly double check. In any case your exceptionally close on dimensions

You will note the cabinets on the small wall do not go the full length for the reason you noted. We have two plans for "cabinets" for that wall and
the max they go is 84" measuring from the patio door wall. We may end up putting a clipped corner on it as well (assuming we use wall cabinets). The clipped corner would tie into the rest of the island. The cabinets along that wall are 15" deep. I did not post the plan for those are we are seriously considering trying to find an antique to go there but here it is:

Where the two stools are is really just a smidgen over 32" (9+18+5+pinch). Each stool requires a minimum of 24". Moving the third stool counter clockwise doesn't really solve anything as that person is right up against the sliding door when getting into and out of the stool.

Using the trash pullout while standing at the sink will be tough.

The island is about 112" by 57"? A box island of 102" x 48" wouldn't be as jazzy looking, but might work better.

I still come up with an aisle behind your seats at only 27'' with a 42'' aisle between the island and the long run of cabinets with those narrow 18'' cabinets.

We've been working on our 14' wide kitchen for some time, and the calculations always end up with a rectangular island that is 4' wide. That leaves room for 2' deep cabinets behind the island, 42'' aisle, 48' island (including overhang) and 54'' aisle behind the seating portion. There's no room for anything on the wall where the seating is.

Here is mine- really similar with the focal point of the hood and the island. I just measured my cook top to the sink at the island- its really wide. 61 inches. The island is at an angle. Its wider than that at one end and narrower at the other. Its very wide, but I'm comfortable with the arrangement. However, my floor is a dark tile and dripping on is not an issue. It does allow for people to be able to walk through the kitchen without getting in my way, and the three of us to be able to work at the same time.

Dishdrawers- check them out on the appliance forum. They're great.

sarschlos - I think the issue is we have only ~36/37 inches at the narrowest part of the aisle where the cooktop is. I loaded a different option (bumps out where the cooktop" is and changes a few cabinets that we did not like. It shows the dimensions better.

bmorepanic - your making me panic LOL. I agree that a 4th stool along the patio door will not have a lot of room, but should be more than 24". I agree with your comment on the trash pullout.

Three feet and 42'' behind the bar stools is mighty tight.

I'm talking about counteredge when I say its 32" for the two stools at the one section of counter. Each person needs about 24" of counteredge. So the single seat is fine, the two seats in the angled section isn't fine - two actual human bodies can't fit.

The next section is a bit narrow for plates, etc, at least a body would fit, but there isn't enough safe room behind the stool. I have two completely different visions - in one, an unoccupied stool breaks the door. In the more scary one an occupied stool does.
