PLEASE help me convert my desk into a pantry.
Comments (13)Gillylilly, Since your house is so new does that mean you think you can get matching cabinetry pretty easily? If you can... Right now you have that open storage on the uppers. If you were able to move the door on the left to cover the center storage instead so now you have the open cabinet on the left. Then you could pull out the open cabinet and the drawer set below them and put in a full height pantry with pullouts. So you'd need to pay to move the door, take down/cut down that newly open upper, pull out the drawer base and cut the ctop down, and buy/install the pantry from the original cabinet people so it matches well. Then you'd still have a small desk area for your computer and piles (I'm thinking 24"? but it's hard to tell from the photos, but an entire pantry of what? 12? 15? inches and all enclosed uppers for basically the cost of a single large cabinet and the labor for install and cutting the granite. You'd end up with a left over drawer set (maybe you need to replace a regular cabinet with some drawers somewhere else?). The second phase here could be that if you didn't want the knee hole any more you could buy a second set of office drawers and put the two sets side by side under the desk drawer. That will give you an area that is probably a little higher than the rest of the kitchen but that's usually more comfortable if you are going to be standing in front of it looking at the laptop at all. Just some guesses as to options since there are no measurements! Here is a link that might be useful: Example Cabinet...See MorePantry cabinets vs. bifold closet
Comments (15)We inherited a small pantry with bifold doors, and it works great. We have elfa shelving floor to ceiling and total flexibility because of the open space inside. In fact, in the upcoming remodel, we're converting the laundry room to a huge pantry room, with spare fridge and freezer, extra prep space, and wall-to-wall pantry space. I was going to put cabinets along that wall, but decided it made more sense to put 2 sets of double doors and elfa inside, just like our current pantry only much bigger. 10' of floor-to-ceiling pantry/storage shelving that I can close off ... can't wait!!!! One advantage of an open closet rather than cabinets is easy access to floor space. I use 40-lb buckets of grains, and can slide them in and out easily, directly on the floor. No lifting. :-)...See MoreConvert Pantry closet into Mud room
Comments (0)Hey I need some assistance. I want to convert our pantry closet that is right at the entrance to our house from the garage into a mud area. I have attached a video as to what the wall looks like. I am trying to figure out if its a load bearing wall or not. I want to knock down the entire wall. I am hesitant to knock it down before I know if it is a load bearing wall. Is there any easy way to figure this out? The question would be how can I find out if this is a load bearing wall or not. (Photos attached) Side note - the door on the left of the closet leads into the garage. The front facing closet wall does not extent into the garage or the washing room on the right. Comments (9)Consider using the vertical drawers idea: Create a pair of storage units that fit in the center of the closet but roll out -- one with shelving for kitchen pantry items and one with both shelf and hanging for mops and brooms ( hanging over your mop bucket for cleaning items. Creating individual roll out storage for two different types of items for which you need storage space could keep those kinds of items separate but in the same closet -- and do so while eliminating the need to physically step into the closet to get the items on either of those rolling units -- thus, leaving more room for you to include any built in items you want on each side/end of the closet -- items that you can more easily reach with the two rolling units are out of the closet. You could create just one roll out cabinet for your cleaning items, enabling you to move your cleaning closet room to room with you for cleaning or to a garage otherwise out of the house as needed when you don't want those mop smells in the closet....See Morema-bookreader
