To Seal or Not to Seal -- Granite Countertops

Ok, I've been reading all about granite countertops on this great forum... Best sealers, best cleaners, etc. Still I'm left with one questions -- does my granite need sealing or not? I asked the builder, and he said, no, the granite (in the kitchen) and marble (in the bathroom) don't need to be sealed. I've read that some granites, esp the dark ones, may not need sealing. Well, ours is brownish, fairly dark, but not charcoal or black like some very dark granites.

HOW DO I DETERMINE IF MY SPECIFIC GRANITE COUNTERS NEED SEALING OR NOT? I thought about buying a sealer and doing it anyway, but then I read someone's post that if you seal it unnecessarily, it could make them hazy!

Those in the know, PLEASE clarify!

Also, should I seal the marble bathroom counters too?
