Branch Hill Joinery Amish Cabinets
Comments (16)I think it varies so much by region, it is really hard to say. I am getting mine directly from an Amish person, and paying $16,000 for the kitchen below (although we have made some changes since these sketches were drawn). Our kitchen is small (12 x 13), but we did all base drawers, a custom raised counter, quartersawn w/o, etc. He was about 3,000 less than the other three custom cab makers and close to $6,000 less than the Shilo cabs. I don't think your quote is that far off, actually. Maybe a little high, but not out of line. I will say that my Amish man will call me on the phone once a week, but not all will do that. He is also only 15 minutes from where I work, so I pop in occassionally too. If you have that kind of access, you could probably get them cheaper. If you don't, it may be well worth it to you to pay a middle man so you have some contact while they are being built. Comments (16)fks3- I guess I did get a bargain. I thought $145 was a lot of money until I had looked it up on the reva shelf website and saw that it was priced at $344. It is the one with the gas spring assist soft open and close. I think he gave it to me at his cost. I'm not sure if he made my peg in drawer insert or got it from reva shelf but he only charged me $50 for the same one that is $ 107 on the website. Tashamh- maybe you can try to bargain a little when you meet them in person. I had some snacks and pizza for the installers to eat instead of their own bag lunches and they wanted to deduct the price of the food from the bill. They also used a couple of our power tools and wanted to reimburse me for that. Of course I told them neither was necessary....See MoreRecommendations for Amish cabinet makers in OH
Comments (14)Felt I should chime in here since there seems to be quite a bit of interest in Amish cabinets recently on the forum and I live close to Mullet and many other cabinet makers near what everyone here in Ohio calls "Amish Country." I recently had cabinets made for my entire home renovation/addition. I had the benefit of local knowledge of these places but I still interviewed many of them to make sure I found the best fit. It will be impossible to convey a real overview but I'll mention a couple things that I think will help the most as you're considering your options. There are countless cabinet makers here - many of them will make an outstanding product for a very good price - specifically because they keep their overhead so low with respect to advertising, showrooms, etc.. They excel at fairly straightforward cabinets without a lot of frilly details. Not saying they aren't capable of doing the work from a strictly craftsmanship perspective, they just aren't set up on the front end to intake that high a level of detail - part of that low overhead. These are the places you would mostly hear about only through word of mouth. Excellent value. Then there are a couple places like Mullet - they build a great product but the cost will likely not be significantly less than other more conventional options because they're more or less a conventional cabinet company. Mullet is definitely the most commercialized in this category - they are trying to compete regionally if not nationally. This category of places will/can do anything you can dream up. They have made the investment on the front end with sales people, design and drafting, etc to make it happen. The benefit to using them is you can get a more custom better quality product for the same money you would have paid elsewhere. I had Mullet and several other places from both categories quote my kitchen. My two cents - if you are looking for a place in the second category - great quality with fairly custom details I would HIGHLY recommend Schrocks of Walnut Creek over Mullet. If you're interested in knowing more about specifics of why let me know. Sorry for the long post - tried to keep it as short as possible :)...See Moremodern_mom35
