garbage disposal question
Comments (7)Ah contrare mi capitan,,Not only is that excess water not harmful, it is actually very good for it. When vegetable matter is ground up in a disposal it ends up in fine pieces about the same consistency as cole slaw. The leading cause of failure in garbage disposals is corrosion of the pot metal housing which results from acids that are produced by bits of decaying vegetable matter clinging to the inner wall of the housing. The more often we run water through it the more efficiently those particles are washed down the drain, thus reducing the corrosive effects of the leftover foodstuffs and vegetable matter. To get maximum service life out of a disposal you should get in the habit of running the disposal about ten seconds every time you empty a sink full of water or at least once a day even if you don't grind food waste, especially after washing pots and pans. About once a week you should drop a couple handfuls of ice cubes in the disposal, turn the water on, then run the disposal until the ice cubes are gone. Grinding the ice cubes will help clean the grease and food matter buildup off the cutting edges of the rotating cutter wheel....See MoreSink w offset drain, garbage disposal and pull-out trash below?
Comments (9)we're planning this same set-up. I chose the blanco diamond super single because I wanted a single bowl sink with the drain off to the right side. We will also have a disposal and a hot water tap on the right. We planned it this way so we could free up the left side space for a garbage bin under the sink. We are planning for a rev-a-shelf double 35qt system which should fit perfectly. I'm waiting till our granite and sink are in before we do that though. On the other door I'm putting the rev-a-shelf sink base storage unit (holds dish soap, sponges..etc). My sinkbase is going to be jam-packed with stuff and it will hopefully make life easier. Here is a link that might be useful: trash bin...See MoreSingle bowl kitchen sink question
Comments (38)cpartist, DH vowed never to buy AS again. We put in the designer line of AS plumbing fixtures in our bathrooms. The faucets for the MB was chrome with brass trims. The brass trims had a clear lacquer coating which was supposed to protect and prevent the brass from tarnishing. A year after we installed, the clear coating started to chip away. When I called AS to complain, AS said cosmetic damages are not covered by their lifetime warranty. We lived with these bad faucets until it was time to sell the house. DH replaced the ugly AS faucets right before we put the house on the market. We also installed 6 body jets in the MB shower. After install, we found out one of the body jet was defective – no water coming out from that jet. AS sent us a replacement but we had to hire the plumber to remove and replace at our expense. Also, about a year later all the body jets started clogging. We ended up not using the body jets. In the new bath addition we had a tub shower combo. We chose a built-in diverter on the valve. It never worked even after two replacements. Water would come out from the shower head and tub spout. DH gave up and replace the tub spout with a non AS tub spout diverter. So that tub/shower ended with 2 diverters -- one on the AS valve which didn't work and one working one on the tub spout. The AS plumbing fixtures were expensive and the quality was just not there. In our case, more $$$ did not equate to better quality....See MoreSingle bowl sink/disposal/sink drain question
Comments (15)Based on the definitions in the Illinois Plumbing Code, I would interpret Domestic Dishwasher (Private Residence) to apply only to dishwashers installed in residences located in hotels or motels. "Private" or "Private Use": In the classification of plumbing fixtures, private applies to fixtures in residences, apartments and private bathrooms of hotels or motels where the fixtures are intended for the use of a single family or an individual; handwashing stations (lavatories) within residents' rooms, within shared or common resident restrooms, or designated for staff use only in hospitals/long-term care units/mental health facilities, and hand-washing stations where food is being prepared....See Moreplllog
