Do I have to have a backsplash?
Comments (6)We tiled the walls over our vanities in our bathrooms, but did not tile the side walls. The painted walls still look as good as they did when the bathrooms were first completed. The key is to use very good quality paint, and let it cure before letting it get wet (or steamy). We used BM Aura paint in the matte finish. We used Aura Bath and Spa in two of the bathrooms, and regular Aura in the other (Bath and Spa hadn't come out yet)....See MoreDo you have a stainless steel backsplash?
Comments (3)We are in the middle of our remodel right now but we will have the same situation...30 inch range, 36 inch range hood and sheet stainless behind both. We are going to take the stainless up to the ceiling behind the range hood. Someone gave us a 4x8 sheet of stainless so we have decided to have it cut to match up to the width of the hood. I just think it would look funny to have the hood stick out 3 inches on each side of the stainless. Still trying to figure out how to deal with it behind the range...do we run the regular backsplash up to the range and cut the stainless around it or do we run the stainless down to the counter and stop the regular backsplash 3 inches from the range on each side...decisions, decisions....See MoreWhat did you do with your walls if you have no backsplash?
Comments (5)We didn't put in a tiled or granite backsplash b/c we postponed it due to budget (plus I didn't know what I wanted). We just painted w/a scrubbable paint (BM Cornsilk). However, be sure you tell the templater that you will not have a backsplash...and keep telling him/her! Otherwise, they'll assume they don't have do that good a job of templating along the wall b/c they'll think the tile will hide it. Oh, and put it in writing! Even though I was very explicit and they had our design with NO backsplash, they still gave me a gap that was big enough to push my fingers in up to my knuckles...I refused to sign off until they fixed it. I now have a fairly small gap that black silicone (or is it caulk?) hides very well and also keeps water (and crumbs) from falling behind the counters. I have a black counter, so the black is perfect. There is one run that has clear and we tried painting over, but the paint doesn't "stick"...so make sure they use something that either already matches your counter or wall or that can be painted....See MoreDo you have carrera marble backsplash? Is it kitchen friendly?
Comments (10)I have a marble slab b-splash behind my range. It's Vermont Danby, and it's very white. My marble is sealed with Porous Plus 511, and I have no problems at all with staining on my b-splash, even when tomato sauce, etc. splatters and I don't notice it/wipe it until the next day. I may be able to find some small oil marks that have been neglected, if I look very closely, but it basically still looks like the day it was installed, about 14 mos. ago. I probably have etches from those types of splashes, but IMO, etches are hard to see on a b-splash unless the light is exactly right. (My counters, on the other hand, are full of very visible etches!) I also have a friend with a carrara tile b-splash, she has a large family and does a lot of cooking. It's been about 3 years, and her b-splash has held up beautifully, and still looks great....See Moredenicast
