Just for fun, our Japanese kitchen

We're going to be here on Okinawa (hubby in military) for two more years, and I thought some of you TKO members might like to see a genuine Japanese kitchen. The standard kitchen would be just the back wall with the sink, but that might have literally killed me so we made an island out of some furniture and tiled a top for it. We never got around to making a back pannel, but maybe someday.

And the view:

Major annoyances: having the microwave above the fridge, but there is nowhere else to put it, no outlets except the one behind the fridge and the one behind the stove, no flat surface to knead or roll bread, no dishwasher (not done here) and no disposal (also not done here). Also, the bottom of the upper cabinets is about six feet off the ground, which is the way they do it here and I'll never understand it, since Japanese people are short to begin with. The apartment is about 1000 sf, and the rent is $1700 a month (ouch!)Just thought I'd share :)
