Miele Steam/Speed Oven? Anyone have one?

Just starting a kitchen/main floor reno and want to get a wall oven to go with my 36" all gas Wolf. I didn't love the Wolf wall oven, so started looking at Miele. Once I started looking I can't stop-they are gorgeous. But I am confused about what I should get or what I really need. Was considering the speed oven as it offers electric heat, convection and microwave options. All good stuff. But then I went to a demo and saw the steam oven which really appealed to me too. I really think I would use that a lot. Both would be overkill. Wouldn't it? Then there's the warming drawer...useful or totally unnecessary?? I do cook from scratch every night, and we are a family of 5. Anyone have any advice for me?

I have the speed oven and love it. My friend has the steam oven and she loves hers. I don't think you can go wrong with either choice.

I have the wall ovens, the speed oven and the steamer. We are still new to the kitchen and I haven't really mastered any of them yet.

Do a search over on the Appliances forum. There are some people with them and it's great to see some of the things you can do with the steamer.

The microwave feature has been getting a workout here so far, and I have been very happy with it.

I haven't done a lot of "menu" cooking either.. Usually I just create my own program. A few times that i tried menu cooking for vegetables, they turn out a bit overcook for my taste, so I readjust and select "al dente" on the scale each time and they come out better. I tried the "croissant" setting and it came out perfect. you can find some recipes on the miele website.. if you click on "recipe search", u can find the ones just for the combi steam oven. This is why we decided to go ahead and do a convection oven below the combi-steam oven. It's sort of hard to add one at a later date if we realize that we need it. We were going to put our countertop microwave in the pantry but decided to go ahead and get a microwave drawer since there was space for it. It's a bit far from the other appliances so we won't run into the different colored stainless issues people ask questions about.

My Miele SO allows you to set the micro timer up to 10 mins per operation. That should be sufficient for most needs. I had a very intermittent issue with the micro function. (3 times in 16 months). It only happened to me once in month 16 where I saw the error message the other two times my daughter was using it. The error resulted in the oven restarting and all was good so not a show stopper as far as function. I called MIele and asked what the error was. They told me it was an expensive repair and since was I "slightly" out of warranty (1 year - did not purchase the 5) they would repair it free as a one time goodwill which they did. I was very pleased at the service. I use the oven almost daily as a small oven and it works as well as my combi steam in the non steam modes. It is a great small oven.

You can never have enough ovens. We have a 30" oven in addition to a 24" CSO and a 24" SpeedOven (incidentally, this is a wonderful combination). And still, there has been at least one meal, when I had to add a fourth improvised oven by using the gas grill on the deck. I also had to use a portable warming chest, and had to prepare a careful schedule for when to use which appliance. But then, I was cooking multiple courses for a gathering of more than 100 guests. Realistically though, 99% of the time, the combination of those two ovens should be enough. You might just have to do a little bit of planning on the rare occasions that you make huge amounts of food. But if budget is flexible, adding the SpeedOven wouldn't hurt. It's a good oven in its own right, and it can always serve as a great overflow option, when things get really tight. Is it mandatory? No, not at all? Will you enjoy having bought it? Yes, probably. It's a convenient luxury, if you regularly cook a lot.

Thanks for replies. I will post oven on Appliances forum too. I am a newb and didn't even realize there was an appliance forum! Glad to hear you are both happy with the ones you have. Bee, do I understand that you have the double wall oven, the speed oven and the steam? So perhaps me getting both the steam and the speed isn't totally crazy, when I will also have the 36" range? They are all so different, I would really love to have everything. That's the truth!

We went to a Wolf demonstration and they heavily featured their steam oven. Everything from it was amazing, especially the crust on the baguettes! I hadn't looked into steam ovens from other brands though. Since we're doing whole kitchen, I want to get the rebate for multiple appliances. Is the Miele supposed to be a lot better?

Look on the Appliance Forum for the topic "Variable Steam in Wolf Oven". There are comments about the various steam ovens. I had recently researched the steam ovens (purchased the Wolf) and shared my observations of each manufacturer on that page.

I have the Mile speed oven and wall oven. I love the speed oven, we use it constantly! Can't comment on the steam oven though. Good luck.

We have the Miele speed oven, steam oven and Capital range. All unique with their benefits. I use them all regularly based on cooking method, size of meal and especially this summer, whether or not I want to heat up the kitchen. I've used the steam oven for fish, leafy greens, yogurt, canning ...and my husband especially loves it for corn on the cob.

mojavean over in Appliances has the speed over and recommends it highly. We bought one but it's not being used yet : ) (still in demo phase)

Update:

I just used the steam oven for corn on the cob and brussel sprouts. Quite frankly....best ever. I think I'm going to love this baby...
