Hardy kiwi (Actinidia arguta) will survive the winter in your area. There is a commercial hardy kiwi orchard in Northeastern PA producing hardy kiwi fruit: http://www.kiwiberry.com/index.html Arctic kiwi (Actinidia kolomikita) will also survive the winter in your area. These are not as vigorous as arguta. They are a kind of berry, so is citrus fruit, and so is a banana....that designation is not useful when determining if a plant is hardy in Pennsylvania. The woman at your nursery is most likely not familiar with hardy kiwi and arctic kiwi. Alex

Yes, she did garden. She had been to a luncheon and decided to put on some work clothes when she got home. When her son drove up there she was in the garden with her diamond earrings and work clothes. Her husband was an agriculture agent for the state of TX. Peonies do not grown in south TX. When she saw them there, Terry had to buy her some plants. Wonder if they are still there. She moved to her son's in NYC after her husband died. He said she had him hauling pots and soil to the roof, in order for her to plant her tomatoes.

Kim, I'm not one of your classmates but I graduated from the Mont-Bucks classes in January 2000. It took me about an hour to get to Creamery for classes. I took the turnpike. I'm only about 2 miles from the turnpike. I'm sure I'll meet you soon. I'll be working the MG's Q & A booth at the Grange Fair on August 18th starting at 2:30. Some of my classmates were in the same situation as you and Trish. They lived closer to another counties office and class facilities. It happens all the time. But you do have to attend the classes in your county and only take makeup classes in other counties. Kim, You'll also see the difference between the two counties. Unless they've changed it, Montgomery County trainees paid for their classes. We just had to pay for our manual and badges. Believe there was also a difference in volunteer hours. So watch when you talking to other trainees because the counties have different rules/guidelines. Billie
