'Why Blue is Better than Not-Blue' -- sneak preview PIX!!!

Coming soon, within about 2 weeks to a multiplex near me, a Finished Kitchen! I'm waiting on knobs & pulls for about 1/3 of the kitchen and some odds & ends of trim. In the meantime, here's a few pix of half the kitchen. I'm not taking pix of drawers with ugly holes drilled in them :)

Wow,Bluekit. That's one good looking kitchen you've got going there! And the island is really special. Can't wait to see it all finished. (When you come back with the finish photos, do include close-ups of those knobs). You go!

shhhh..I'm telling you, that midsummer night will work, and you will beyond love it. It will carry the chocolate brown/sea-like Yarmouth Blue combo into the bathroom. It is not a color to use on large wall area, but it IS THE Color to use on small wall areas. It has an effect of making windows and the views like paintings, gives a bathroom a rich warmth, luxurious surround in which to, say, bathe with candlesÃ¢ÂÂ¦. My broker asked me to take a look at her kitchen as they wanted to paint the end third of it. She had in mind a neutral taupe or beige. I went over to take a look, and immediately saw a chocolate brown. Two thirds of their kitchen is entirely made up of - yes - medium brown cabinetry and the appliances virtually NO wall area But the back third is made up of large windows and a French door to the patior, overlooking a golf course, and then winds around to a rear door and entryway. They have a dining table in the window at the end of the kitchen, with a wrought iron chandelier. Well, they went for it (she and I, on our own and purely by coincidence, both picked the Midsummer Night. We couldn't believe it!). It is absolutely, positively stunning. They love it. It totally enriches everything - their paintings, the chandelier, the view, the window trimÃ¢ÂÂ¦and it contemporized the look of their cabinetry., which they were very happy about. I had their friends calling me to ask if I'd come to their houses after they saw the chocolate brown in their kitchen. I don't mean to sound so pushy. It's just that I know it looks like a bold color, i.e.: risky color, but my point is, it isn't. I strongly suggest getting a sample and painting one wall, i.e.: around the window, to get a feel for it. And again, crisp white towels and a splash of color with a nice fake orchid or something similarÃ¢ÂÂ¦you will love it.

I haven't seen that granite in person, but wow yours is so glossy and beautiful. Love the way it looks with your cabinets; the peninsula looks soooo pretty. Don't like the marble BS with your granite. Agree with palimpsest that the scale and pattern of the movement is too similar to that in your granite. They'll end up fighting rather than complementing each other. Of the glass I like the one in the middle. More neutral than the others and looks to go very well with the color of the floors. I don't think it's stark. The subway is a great shape that melds with the traditional ( transitional?) style of your cabs, but the glass has a modern feel and goes well with your fabulously glossly granite which is the star in that kitchen. Keep it simple. BTW, no matter what the backsplash or what the GC says, no No NO to the 4" granite BS! If you have more of the glass tile, yes please post a picture with several in place so we can see how it looks and please show us whatever else you find!

WoW! The gangs all here, well almost all here! Yippy! Yahoee! OK! I'm in a really good mood today! Luvs...I have a Ott desk light that I have had for years but hardly ever use it. It is great for fine detail and gives you a pure color, which other lighting don't. Great that you got it at 50% off as they can be expensive. And showing my ignorance, what is TTYL? Nona....Thank You for the laughter! I love the nap..I'm there! And I am so glad you have joined us here! We watched Julia and Julia, what a fun movie. If I cooked, ya'all know the next line to that one, but for Nona's benefit, "I don't like to cook!" and ate my way through a cook book.....I would need Luvs WW and all of those other weight loss foods "As Seen On TV." And would also need AA with all of that wine. Anj... I have a beautiful desk that is absolutely useless except as a collect all. But then I have to keep reminding myself I'm not at work any longer and need to down size, so my desk is just fine and it was a gift and I can't give it away, a thoughtful gift after all, it pretty, so I need to keep it! Sigh! Hope you have everything in hand and only need to change things once. Glad you found your camera cable, so get with the posting!;) Punk, so glad that your new gal Friday is working out so well, there is light at the end of the tunnel. And Please Take Care when on the roads! Our weather has been so mild that my flower plants are up, and not just the Daffodils or Tulips, but my Lily's and others as well. We are getting some peat moss and mulch to cover them with, frost can't be to far away. Can't wait to actually spend more time in the yard and getting things back to normal. While DH plays poker tonight I am taking our DD, her hubby and my DGS to the theater to see "Over the River To Grandma's House," a comedy about a Grandma and her Grandson. My very good friend is playing the Grandma, so it will be doubly fun! Our "theater" is very small, seating about 75 people and everyone is so close to the "stage" which is more like an ampha (spelling error!) theater. My ulterior motive is to show my DGS that "theater" is fun. He just gives me a funny look whenever I mention going, together.... So, well see. Gotta run, take care! Belle PS...I know...another chapter...sorry... but you all just hype me up and it's gotta come out! Would you believe I'm the quiet one of our friends? I am!

Well, of course you have that same photo. You have good taste! LOL Thinking out loud here (or rather thinking through my fingers).... Given the choice between painting the hood the same as the walls or painting it to match your lovely green cabs, I'd paint it to match the walls. Picture this vertical image: black range, stainless backsplash, wood trim, green hood standing out against a wall painted a different color. Or: black range, stainless backsplash, wood trim, painted hood blending into the wall. It think the latter presents a calmer picture overall, especially given the varied pattern of your tile backsplash. As for what color to paint your walls, hmmmm. Are the putty cabs close in color to the grayish tiles in your backsplash? And does that color blend well (in same color family) with the SS treatment behind the range? If so, using a paler version of the putty cabs will give a soothing, pulled together look while pulling in the wall of cabs across from the range. But frankly, Farrow's cream is calling my name (pick me, pick me, pick me). I think it matches the mood of your happy green cabinet color so well and will harmonize nicely with the hood's wood trim and the wood floors. I also like that it picks up the cream tiles, especially since I don't see that color used anywhere else in your plan. Oh, but I forgot to take into account your counters! Danby marble has gray veins, right? That's brings a lot of cool tones to the space as well. Perhaps enough for you? So I think it comes down to this: If green is your primary color for your space, what do you want to use as the secondary color, mushroom or cream? Are you aiming for a soothing, serene space (mushroom) or a cheerful, retro feel (cream)?

It's lovely! I took my DD to the fabricators to place our deposit and he had a similar granite to your standing by the door. She went wild over it. I had to admit, that's one fantastic piece of rock!

I might need blue granite in this life. I'm torn between the Yellow River I've seen posted on this and the blue macabus and ones like it. Would both look horrible together? Then can I use marble too? And I might want a little bit of soaptstone? How about a patchwork counter will everything I love and to suit each mood!

I love the way your granite flows on the island--like a blue river or sand dunes. It reminds me of Scenic Jasper, only blue. Do you stand in front of it and see a landscape? How gorgeous!

And it looks like you've chosen some adorable hardware. What are those shapes? Two of them look like teapots!

That's not so much a blue kitchen as a blue feature, and the granite is lovely. I might look for that type when/if we ever get around to doing our bathroom. it's looking great!

Your granite is gooorgeous! And your island is the perfect way to feature it. We need details on your hardware.(closeup pics too) It looks like you went the i-chic route with lots of fun shapes. I love that whimsical look, especially on an island.

Oh my, I love it so much! My husband and I decided against blue (even though we LOVE blue) because we didn't want to overdo it. Your kitchen definitely makes me wish we hadn't gone so neutral.

That granite is spectacular!!! Also love the fun knobs on the island - the perfect touch! Just wondering: how do you like the Thermador range? I'm looking at a 30" Pro-Harmony on Ebay for our beach condo: it would provide a flush fit and I love the blue knobs!

P.S. I'm a quilter as well and also a hooker (as in hooked rugs).

Just stunning, Blue, that's my favorite granite, what is it called? Also love your overhead lights and white subway tiles (I chose light green subway tiles for my kitchen). You kitchen has a real vintage charm, what a happy space!

Gorgeous kitchen! I have to fess up and admit I am kitchen stalker...I have loved seeing your choices come together and waited anxiously for ever more update pics! I just love your granite and how the stainless looks with the blue and white and how the maple warms everything up. Great job!
