pics of Heath Tiles pre-grout

Hi Guys !

I thought this might be informative. I had my Heath Tiles put in today. They are hand made and very wavy in a straight weird kinda way. they need to be spaced at 3/8". Without the grout they look pretty crazy, but after grout they will have a soft look.

I mixed 2x6, 2x8 and a few 2x12. I asked the tile guy to keep them very random and he did a good job of it, although it's a little easy to follow the lines up. But It'll be fine.

thanks! Ya know, i wouldn't say similar to subways.. which are usually 3x6 and smooth.. here's a picture where you can see the texture a bit better. They are pretty white (like a stone white) and have a matte finish.

Everyone is mentioning epoxy grout or unsanded grout. What is the difference? Which is the best? Unsanded grout is the more conventional of the two. It's basically portland cement, pigment, and dry polymers to give it strength.it's the normal grout used in grout joints under 1/8" in size. Epoxy grout is just as the name implies. It's epoxy based, and is tough as nails. Epoxies make several claims. They claim to be more color fast than normal grout. They claim to be alot more stain resistant than normal grout. They claim to be much stronger than normal grout. In all three cases, the claims are valid. However, in residential installations, with the exception of maybe countertops, it's my feeling that epoxy grouts are bigtime overkill. Common sense in picking grout colors will go just as far. In addition, epoxy grouts are about 4 times as expensive as conventional grouts, and if you're having a pro do the installation, there's usually an upcharge for grouting with epoxy. Personally, depending on which epoxy, I'll charge 1.50 to 2.00 a foot more just for grouting with epoxy, because it's that much more difficult to use. One other thing to think about-- if you decide to go back to the white grout, you definitely don't want to use the epoxy. Because of the color of the epoxy resin, white epoxy grouts tend to take on a yellowish hue. Also, you talk about using hex tile-- the choice is then epoxy or SANDED grout. Otherwise you'll end up with a grouting nightmare, due to pin holes and shrinkage. Trust me on this.

Ok first, two grouts are incredibly easy :) My tile guy has done it all over the house for me...for instance, each row of this carpet has a different grout color: (this is pre grout by the way, but the grout is perfect in each row and matches exactly): So don't let that stop your decision. It's an easy process. They just apply blue tape where the grout isn't supposed to go, and then apply as usual. No biggie at all!!! Follow the manufacturer instructions! I did't know it was handmade. Mine is as well and there can be variation in both slope and size by very very little, but when you put up the tile, that variation becomes huge. 1/16th here and there isn't visable to the eye, until you try to make your poor tile guy do a 1/16th grout line. So go with the manufacturer recomendation. With larger grout lines, it's even more important to think of color of grout and again, I'd say use two. The reason being, look at my tile...if I'd used say a white or beige grout, (the grout is called Pear) the grout would scream at you, but the pear blends in pretty well. Big grey grout lines in the tan tiles isn't going to flow as well IMO.

I like the oval much better. On the tile color samples I love the first one at the top that blue, what is the name of the color do you know? I decided to go with blues in my flood make over. I second using the grout with sealer in it. We used the Mapai flex color cq it's wonderful stuff. Definitely not cheap but very worth it. I made them use it everywhere. I thought of you when I was at my granite and tile shop. He had a new display of this very large format ceramic in the marble color you are looking for your bathroom it is amazing comes in multiple finishes just like marble the honed was gorgeous. I believe it was in 24 x 48 slabs. It is called Eleganza. The website doesn't do it justice. If you can find it locally go look at it. thanks Breezy - I may have not mentioned it since i sort of chose it early on. Most people seem to leave BS decisions to last, but i don't have a lot of color going on, and i guess that made it easier to decide on.
Although i was of course second guessing it way back when i worried it would look all white and boring. I dont THiiiNK it will... but... i dunno. fingers crossed i dont need a bunch of nick-knacks to liven it up! :D

Oh no, no, no. I forbid you from Knick-knackying up that gorgeous kitchen. ;)

I know I'd seen the sample tile with the floors. Again, your kitchen is coming together so beautifully. And so quickly! Hey, what's happening with the bench? Is it being rebuilt?

We mixed the grout color. 1/2 Bright White and 1/2 Snow White.
I like it! :D
the whole backsplash reminds me of exposed brick - but clean ;o)

and sorry for these sorry a$$ camera phone pics! Real ones coming soon.

Breezy- opps! sorry to be silent about the bench - i think there just wasnt much to tell. The carpenter is making a new one.. well, he's rebuilding it to give it more seating and fill the space better. It comes tomorrow! along with the last few doors. Pendants are next week- got some cool school house lights from Rejuvenation - great place - great quality hardware (latches) too.
Today was BS Range day! Very fun and man!, that thing gets hot! lol... im gonna have to re-learn to cook!

I cant wait for you get as close (to being done) as i am - it still seems not real!!
