Choosing counter top to go with cherry cabinets
Comments (2)I'm in the same predicament. I've chosen Huxley in Oak with the Auburn finish. I spent far too much time yesterday looking at counter tops that I can't afford. The counters I saw made from tiles had noticeable seams. I suppose that depends on the installer but I didn't like them. After looking at Corinthian Solid Surface Pyrenees series Tundra, I think I could be happy with that but for the amount I need, I probably will have to make a different choice. There are several I would take and if money were no object I'd have exactly what I want but since that isn't going to happen.........I'll have to pick something. The samples are so little it's impossible to see what it will really look like. My other thought was to get Formica with the beveled edge and upgrade in a couple of years. I will have a farm sink so that also creates its own problems but I've seen them installed above the counter height and I saw a display yesterday with Formica inside the sink hole. I can't wait for the new sink and cabinets many more years so I have decided to get as much of my dream kitchen as I can now and upgrade if I am still alive. It's so much fun choosing everything until I start adding it all up. Everything starts at $500!...See MoreCopper or Tin ceiling?
Comments (4)I would prefer a simple, rich, deep, mellow copper to tin but would be concerned about the light for a kitchen. I don't see a connection with a silvery tin. I think that would stick out more. The ones I have seen are shiny and ornate and take center stage anyway. They usually clash with their surroundings, imo. I think a metal ceiling takes some know how to pull off well, so be careful what you are doing and the overall effect and style you want. You can google some images, if you haven't already done so. What is the flooring and color?...See MoreAll cherry or white uppers/cherry below?
Comments (20)Lisa - yes, we're in Vancouver! I apologise in advance if this hijacks the thread - I am new to posting and unsure how to send this info directly to you. Laneway housing in RS (residential single family) zoning is restricted to ~750 sq ft, but this particular home is a coach house, which is built in an RT (Residential two family) zone, where you can strata and sell separate from the front house. The sq footage is based on the total lot FSR (floor space ratio) and therefore can be significantly larger than a laneway house. Having said that, this home is 865 sq ft, two bedrooms and a bath and a half. This photo set is from our realtor's shoot, so of course things look wildly distorted with the wide angle lens. Comments (18)OT, but may be of help to the OP. Hey Lynn2006, I did the backsplash myself and I put those counters in. I was "driven to it" (soapstone) because my cabinet company's suggested fabricator didn't think soapstone was a good idea, too fragile. And then some goofy practices that I didn't like at the suggested stone yard cinched that the deal was off with that fabricator and stoneyard. I went online and researched and learned how to work with soapstone watching YouTube videos. I was nervous but after lots of planning I started the project of fabricating my counters. I had a different stone yard come out and cut my sink hole when I was done placing the counters. I liked them. And today this stone yard just sold me remnant pieces of soapstone for $5/sf. I'll use it for a few bathroom projects in the future. The kitchen soapstone I bought online and had shipped. I love working with the stone. The tile is a marble called Lansdale from The Tile Shop, but I cut the running bond mosaic into individual pieces and set it into a herringbone pattern....See More3boysandadog
