Can you help me make some contractor decisions tonight?

Yesterday, our contractor decided the best way to build the island would be to add a 4" wall behind it to run plumbing and electrical through. However, the kitchen designer didnÂt add any trim for this 4" wide edge. I have tons of extra cheery-veenered boards, but thought maybe I could do something like a chair-leg molding. ThereÂs one on each side. What should I put there?

We need outlets and switches on our island. Our previous one had them on each end  cut into the center side of each end. The one on the east side of the house (pictured above) we use for our vacuum and to charge our devices on the counter end. The one on the other side has an outlet and a switch for the lights over the island. Our contractor wants to move them onto this new wall. He doesnÂt want to cut into the cabs. WeÂll have a 9" overhang on the wall side of the island. I have no doubts that we will be able to access them easily.

You can see the double-gang box for the outlet and switch here:

I guess I was thinking weÂd put some fancy molding around the corners (on the front as well as over the 2x4) and that might look funny next to electrical outlets.

Anyway, IÂd appreciate some suggestions.
