sink to go with honed black granite?

I'm thinking of the anthracite silgranite sink. Can anyone post pix of this combo? Also, while we're at it -- how bad are the fingerprints? Guy at the granite yard said once they treated the stone it wouldn't be a problem...

I don't have either. A friend of mine with a black granite said it isn't fingerprints at all-it is CRUMBS that drive her nuts on the dark surface.
I had originally planned to do dark counters and I bought the anthracite sink to go with it and to match my appliances which are all black as well.

I can't help you with Honed Granite, saw it at a granite dealer, but it wasn't for us. We have a 50 yr old house, not too old, but hrdwd flrs throughout, pocket doors, but really your basic 2 story Colonial,,,With that, we've had our soapstone for almost a year, and I can't tell you how extremely happy we are with our choice. As I learned about soapstone, and this site was/is loaded with info...there is as much bad info as correct info regarding soapstone. We purchased ours through Bucks County Soapstone and they only carry Black Venata which is supposed to be "soft". I don't know, but our counters are as hard as a friend of ours that chose a greener stone that I believe is called Julia here. In our neck of the woods they call it PA Soapstone whether it's a greener stone or blacker, only B County calls it Black Venata. There were definite things we liked about soapstone: no bacteria never needing to seal it never needing ANY maintenance whatsoever other than for personal reasons (to keep it dark) extra bonus is how quickly something defrosts on soapstone. Threw out every trivet I owned, and love being able to put a piping hot roasting pan right on the countertop. We've never had a problem with rings, we like it dark, but I only oil it now when someone is coming to visit that doesn't have a clue about soapstone. Or every 3 months? but it stays dark and beautiful. As for splashing around the sink, it holds up perfectly, nothing penetrates this stone, so water simply puddles until its wiped dry. Depending on the kind of dish detergent you use will depend on whether it lifts the oil and turns it lighter. When that happens I bring out the handy dandy oil cloth give it a quick wipe and it's back to perfect. We do have a few dings around the sink, but again, with a bit of sandpaper, or nothing at all as so many of us like.. it's not a big deal. Pricing around our area was the same for either granite, soapstone or marble, so that wasn't a big decision breaker. I hope I helped, it really is a personal decision, but this beautiful inert stone makes us smile each day, and we are thrilled with all it offers.

Rupes, After you tested the lemon juice on the sealer did you try to remove it? I'm wondering if it'll be permanent or if it can be dealt with. When our honed AB counters were first installed we had quite a few "stains.". For example, grease splatters. I could not get them out. They have since disappeared...whether they were absorbed into the stone or what, I don't know. I do periodically use the Method cleaner so I'm wondering if that helped. What I do now to clean the counters is use hot water and a tiny bit of dish soap, then use the Method cleaner every few days or so, with a microfiber cloth. I haven't seen anything on our counters like what you showed with the test above, even though our marble counter has etched quite a bit. I've heard the Cambria Black is less prone to fingerprints,etc., if that's an option for you.

So should I request a new piece of stone or a different one? You don't know yet whether you don't have AB or not. Read the link I posted above called "How to tell if your granite is dyed". Follow the instructions on how to tell. Acetone can be purchased at HD. And, if you find out it's not real AB, it doesn't mean you have to switch it out. It means you have to care for it differently than AB. Read the article I posted above called "What to do if your granite is dyed". Should this be the stoneyard's responsibility? Again, read the articles I linked above. One mentions that often the stoneyard and/or fabricator have no idea that the stone is not AB. Your timeline doesn't make sense. "the marks were there after they used acetone". Why did they apply acetone to newly-installed counters? Are you sure it wasn't the first application of sealant, then perhaps they applied a second application of sealant? (I am guessing here) Again, I repeat, AB does not etch, and it does not need sealant because it is so dense. It is too dense for sealant to penetrate. The marks in the pics look like wipe marks, i.e. sealant was wiped on, and then it dried sitting on top of the surface, creating the haze in a wiping pattern. Again, as Littlesmokie and I said previously, this is easily solved by removing the sealant with acetone.

We had honed absolute black granite in our old house. No problems at all with fingerprints etc. although all the "experts" told us it would be a problem. Be aware that there are two levels of honed. Fully honed takes all the shine off of them and makes them resemble soapstone, which I prefer. I would be careful with teh anthracite sink as it may look like you tried too hard to match. I would go with a white sink, but I'm just sayin. Good luck.

My sister has black leathered granite with a sink made of the same material. Lovely and it still looks new after five years. Wish I could find the pictures of her kitchen at the moment...

I have the anthracite silgranite with leathered black granite and I love it together. The fingerprints vary with the granite - mine doesn't show them. I see water rings from glasses, but they wipe away easily with a damp cloth. I don't have a great picture that shows the sinks, but I will try to upload what I have. You can see the prep sink at the lower left, but it looks very dark.

I have honed Jet/Va Mist and the anthracite sink. I love the look. I do get grease marks - not so much fingerprints, but they wipe away. I was concerned about grease/oil stains on honed black because of what I read here, but no problem there. However, my granite was polished and I had it honed, and the fabricator told me the fact that it was originally polished would make it a lot more resistant to staining.

We put in leathered absolute black around the perimeter with an undermounted white Kohler cast iron sink. It looks great. I wanted contrast since we were using white cabinetry.

We've been in our house a little over two weeks and I'm loving our counters so far. I use Method Daily Granite to clean and don't miss having to use elbow grease to keep fingerprints off the polished dark surface. We had dark polished countertops in our prior house and they were a pain. I'm finding that these do show rings sometimes but a quick wipe takes care of it. They're very easy.
