plllog, The closet is 4 x 4 with a 2 foot door. I should not have used the word "pantry" because it's more of a utility closet, although I foresee perhaps putting spuds and onions into it. Mostly it will contain things like batteries, lightbulbs, paperbags, and dogfood. And table leaves (?) and a broom and my apron and the dehydrator and the upright vacuum and brewery growlers and the Rhoomba and the blancher and the food sealer and a portable oven and the turkey roaster and... is there any space left? Not sure if the household cleaning products will be under the sinks or in the closet--furniture polish, ammonia, etc. I hope that the bug spray and sun block will fit into the lobby closet and get dissociated from the kitchen. This isn't a food pantry. There are two good-sized upper cupboards to hold the major part of my food ingredients (by the stove) and another cupboard with a lazy susan to hold some more. I do not as a rule buy food in bulk so there is no need to plan a food pantry for overflow food ingredients. In fact, that is one temptation that I am trying to avoid. The only things I overbuy in bulk are wine and cheese. ___ plllog: Our old teak mega-china cabinet is for sale--as in the Hitchhiker's Guide, it has to be cleared out in order to make way for an intergalactic highway so to speak, the new doorway to the dining room. Sigh. I will sorely miss it. There is nothing on the market that can hold that much china, Old Sheffield Plate, glassware, and candlesticks. Stay tuned to learn whate I will use as an alternative unit to hold some of that as well as my cookbooks. Yes, in time, I will be able to post some photos. Given the difficulty I've had in finding a suitable antique "killer piece" to replace it, we might commission a custom bookshelf-cupboard for the kitchen in the future. All it takes is money.

Curmudgeon view: I'm trying not to overbuy food. Are you? If there's a designated space, can you tolerate having it empty or will you buy to fill the space? We've had discussions here about the "CostCo Cupboard" also, a way to deal with the overage that results from shopping in quantity. "If you build it, they will come" has implications for kitchens as well as the movies. Also, consider how your buying will change as your family situation and personal aging impact life in the kitchen. People with small children live with lots of cereal boxes and readymade foods, but this ends. Real life follows. And at my place in the scheme of life, I have as few canned goods and readymades as possible; storage of fresh produce is my dilemma. If I were living as my elderly mother did in a house alone, I'd be back to frozen foods and canned goods and restaurant meals, a trap I hope to avoid. And as someone said above, consider what happens to items that aren't entirely closed.

Just reread specs and I think that the Rev-a-Shelf swing out system will work as it requires a 30" minimum width (I have 37"). That would leave up to 7 inches for the right hand door to swing open: is that enough? Perhaps I could have a pull out pantry or filler in those 6-7"? I have just over 37" but need to be able to open the right door so wondering if the pull outs below, if placed to the right would work? this is the Rev-a-Shelf swing out pantrythis is the Rev-a-Shelf "filler" (above) and below is the Rev-a-Shelf pullout pantry (there is a wood option and a metal option: any opinions on what is better?) This comes as narrow as just over 4" so not sure what the difference between this and the filler really is--anyone know? And is there a different company that makes a better product or equally good product that I should look into? Thank you for your help

I have a nice little walk-in, but not much food is stored in it.....my rices and assorted grains, a little bit of pasta, vinegars, oils, jars and cans of different kinds of beans, sauces and tomato products, a little supply of baking requirements, and herbs/spices. Most of the space is used to park all of those appliances that I refuse to keep on my kitchen counter, a minor quirk of mine. I also store stacks of dishes in their covers and the serving items and platters needed for entertaining. I don't know what I would do without the space.
