Not much room under mine. I had planned a pull out. Couldn't make it work. This is a bathroom wastebasket. It works fine but it gets emptied every day. For a family, maybe not. Depending on what else you have to keep under there, a larger container would be better. I've used small buckets, too. Be creative. A 5 gal pail barely fits. My space is 15 inches tall. I don't know if that is regulation or not.

Can you fit a 1 HP Insinkerator under a Shaw's? Or what about the 3/4 HP?

I have the insinkerator evolution excel (I think 1 hp) under my 30" shaw's sink - no problem. Sorry no pics - will try later - new camera since the last one went swimming in the ocean for a few hours.

Anyone else have any pics of space under their shaw 30' farm sink? Is anyone able to fit a small standard trash bin? Any helpful advice greatly appreciated. We have a small kitchen & the only option is the under the sink cabinet. We can do either a 33 or 36 inch base & don't have to have a disposal.

Here is the space with my 20" tall garbage can (which normally lives in a designated pull-out cabinet) just so you can get an idea:

One could also use a rectangular storage tub with high sides (I have one from Ikea holding supplies under mine).

The tough part for me wouldn't be space, but the difficulty of bending very, very low down to access it, and not smacking my forehead on the bumped out sink. But I'm a klutz with a baaaad back. That said, if I had to choose between the sink, and a sore back and bruised forehead, I'd choose the latter. Because I just luuuuv farm sinks.

May I ask whether your cab is a 33 or 36, standard height, & also of your cab's inset of frameless? Could I also see a picture of the doors closed? I am going to send it to my cabinetmaker for reference. I understand these shaw sinks are sometimes hard to install. Did you have any problems? Any advice you can share?

You did a great job of blending the new sink cabinet with the original cabinetry. I assume the white-painted cabinets in the first picture are original? I love renovations that are so seamless that they could pass for ''restorations'', like this.

The ''drawer'' and ''cabinet'' to the right of the sink - they conceal your dishwasher? The ''latch'' on that cabinet door, is it functional or mock?

I'm a restoration fanatic (being of the opinion that I am just a temporary caretaker of this old house, and the 80 year old cabinets have more right to be there than I do). I specified the measurements of the copycat unit down to the eighth of an inch so that it would exactly match the original stuff. Exactly. The only thing different is that the new wood is thin, cheap cr*p, and the old wood is wonderfullly thick douglas fir. Because of the original cabinet specs, the dishwasher had to have a 3 inch base/toe kick. Not truly a "toe kick" as vintage cabs don't have them. Hard on the lower back to load and unload, but I don't care!

I was so excited about the design for the dishwasher. The cabinet guy HATED it because it took him forever to make. He complained a lot! The latch and hinges are fake.

Unfortunately, I put my masterpiece of a faux panel on a rotten, lousy Bosch dishwasher. So someday I am going to have the agony of trying to attach it to a different dishwasher. I seriously dread the day.

Mmmmmm, I love to see Bayareafrancy's kitchen, and not just for the OKM and fir floor love-a-rama. Johnliu, ask to see her gorgeous hutch area! Run a google search for archived threads of 2 years ago, before the poor girl was devoured by the rigors of childrearing and cabinet painting. ;-)

[Francy, which model Bosch dishwasher do you have? We also got one (mid-range), our first, and dislike it intensely, not that I feel entirely comfortable saying so in the face of so many Bosch fans on the forum... Yours is also a stinker?]

To stay on topic, here's a gratuitous shot of the rather scary world underneath my 8" deep fireclay farm sink. I've got an Insinkerator Evolution Excel compact and we use it as our main disposal, works fabulously and takes up less room. The doors have a 17.5" vertical opening, so any trashcan would probably have to be around 16" high or less:
