I know you all aren't going to believe this....but, I ordered tile yesterday and my B/S will be going in next Thursday! Shall I leave you in suspense til the final reveal??????

I think you are asking me? If not....sorry... I will take the tile up cabinet height around my window as there are cabinets on both sides.....I am leaving the rest of the window without trim as I have 2 & 7/8" from cabinet to edge of window...and thought I would put a small trim around it...but then when they put the light rail up there is only 1 & 7/8"..so think it's too small for trim.....What is everyone's opinion? Just found out today...that the guys that was going to do the tile (looks like they work as a team) won't be able to do it until the one that is having knee surgery is able to work ...which could be weeks!! He came today to get paid for all the other work he did...and I asked him if his partner would go ahead and put the tile up.....He is suppose to let me know... Oh well I've waited this long....and really not long at all...so a few more weeks is OK....just anxious to see the kitchen completely finished...now that I finally have the Subway tile sitting in boxes waiting to be installed.

HELP! Clear or frosted shades on island pendants?

This is just my personal opinion, but I hope it helps. For me, I don't like bright light, so I have all my lights on dimmers, even the canned lights in the kitchen. I also don't like direct light shining down on the island. It reminds me of a spotlight and removes the ambiance from the room. I'm in the process of remolding a new home and just as in my current home, I have canned lights throughout the kitchen, which will be the main source of light, all on dimmers, and I have two 18 inch pendant lights, Restoration Hardware Machinist Pendants, (see pic below) over the island. For me, the pendant lights will be more for decorative purposes, ambiance. The bulbs are low wattage and will remain on even when not using the kitchen and the canned lights are off. This will give enough light to be able to see when making a quick trip to the kitchen w/o having to turn on the canned. This has worked well in my current home where I have a huge island and a chandelier hanging directly in the center, with several 15 watt bulbs. My point is, if you don't use a glaring wattage bulb and don't hang the pendant at or just above eye level, I don't think it matters whether you have a clear, frosted or solid globe/shade. If you look at photos online, the majority of lights over islands have clear or no glass, which to me, it's not meant to be the main source of light. Now, if you don't have additional lighting in the kitchen and the island lights are the main source, then maybe it would be a good idea to use a solid shade/dome and a higher watt bulb, but in warm tone and not in white. My guess is it is a dated item no longer desirable." @Trademark Design the choice of an built-in soap dispenser or soap bottle on the counter is about which function type you prefer. It has nothing to do with being dated or not. In any case, I have yet to see kitchen designers Mick de Giulio, Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Plain English, DeVol, Matthew Quinn, or any other top designer use a bottle on the counter. Having said that, I like soap bottles. I also like in-counter dispensers. Neither is dated. People like one type of soap dispenser or the other.

@slonewby: It's interesting you are somewhat struggling with backsplashes. I have similar colour kitchen and have been struggling with the same for about 3 weeks now. All the stone looks beautiful but you don't want marble to compete with the granite. Subway tiles it is... here in canada nearly impossible to find subway tiles the right size and colour.. i wanted 2x4 which comes in two colours and wrong shades. I am finally giving up and going with 3x6 in somewhat of a cappuccino colour. You posted this tile which should work well: Plain white is good but i wanted to give some colour to backsplash then the cabinets my cabs are sky white and granite has beige, black, yellow/orange (delicatus superba). Once my backsplash is done i will post some pics...

Really? you want me to tell you?? Awwwww...shucks, I guess after ALL of the drama/confusion/suggestions/trials and big errors, it *is* sort of mean.

Okay.....are you ready? Drum roll please..............

We went with the cream beveled subway...no accents other than the decorative switchplates. While it looks a little too white in the photos, it is such a soft, elegant white in person...just enough creamy to make it dreamy and to fade away lusciously into the background. Pure white was too stark, the coffee colored one drew too much attention to itself and added a bit too much darkness and the linen was just "eh" and also kind of muddied up the granite.

Here's another picture of our choice:

I'm so excited and can't wait til it goes in!

I have to laugh a bit. This is what I wanted from the start. I've come full circle. I think it took this long to find "just the right white/cream" though. None of the others have worked like this one. And, best of all, hubby finally realized that color wasn't really what he wanted...it was "interest"...and the bevel is just enough for him after all!

Hopefully after it goes in, he won't say something like, "gee, the kitchen really needs color".....ahhhh!

Secondhalf: It's "Manhattan Series" beveled subway 3X6 in cream. They had the nicest cream out of SO many that we looked at. So many of them were pinkish our yellowish.

Looking at your choices together, it's hard to imagine anything else. Congrats! The tile just blends in so smoothly.

It's just absolutely perfect! I love it.
What a relief to have that decision made. I too went with my very first choice. All those months of searching and agonizing.

oh, geez, that was a double post! What is going on with GW? I have no idea how that happened.

That tile is perfect. I remember I found a great creamy white for my BA before the Arabesques. It took a long time to find the right one.

So glad for you.

Gosh, I hope you didn't think I didn't like it....no way. It is perfect.

Love it!!!! Congratulations on finally figuring it out! Would you mind sharing what brand it is and the color name? The backsplash is still on our list and from the photo, it looks like that may work for us too.

Thank you everyone! I'm so happy to have found this cream....after looking at so many different ones!

Here is the info: From the sample board....
Manhatten Series MN11/B36 Cream 3X6 beveled edge

Best yet, the price is just $4.68 per sq foot! Honestly, I've been looking at tiles that range from $6-$31 per square foot. To think that my very favorite is under $5 really amazes (and delights!) me!

I can't wait to post photos of the finished project....right now I have to order more switchplate covers!

Sure a2gemini, the counters are none other than Bianco Antico granite.

There are several BA owners on this list...and, many of them, like me, don't have backsplashes yet! It's a lovely stone but not easy to work colors with~
