Comments (150)Peke, you will get a beautiful look with just one color of the crackle. My silver has about 4-5 different tiles within the mix of them, having plenty enough interest. If you start mixing more than one color together (unless it's a mosaic), it's going to be crazy. I know cuz I wanted to mix some blues in with the silver & both my KD & the tile sales girl said NO. I can see now that it would have ruined the mix. It ends up all blending together & creating a beautiful, interesting look with depth (and sparkle when you get close). Not a busy look. It all blends. I like the Riviera better than the Bali. Sounds like you do too. That's one eliminated. You don't like the celery (the description has yellow sage in it). Two gone. The Moonlight isn't doing much for the Sea Pearl & I'm guessing the Ice isn't either? The Storm is going to give you the most variation, the 5th on the left side of the tile board. My tiles sat on my counter for 6 weeks because I thought they were too taupey & I wanted some blue. Once they were up & grouted, a totally different look. Like Bookworm said, you just have to pick. I think you now have the largest collection of Encore samples on Gardenweb. I love crackle tiles. If Seapearl's tile isn't in this bunch, there are more manufacturers of beautiful crackle. Here the level of variation in your samples: Ice -minimum variation Moonlight-moderate Sky- minimum to moderate Bali - moderate Riviera - moderate Mint - moderate Celery- minimum to moderate Cashmere- moderate to high Lagoon-moderate Slate-moderate to high Storm-high Stream- high Cameo (bookworm's) - moderate Silver- (mine) - moderate This post was edited by romy718 on Sun, Mar 16, 14 at 13:35...See Morebacksplash advice
Comments (17)I have a very similar color scheme: wood floors, white cabinets (SW Pearly White), dark perimeter counters (leathered antique brown, (looks black)), light island counter (polished white macaubus quartzite) and grayish paint (SW Monorail Silver). I chose a matte marble subway (not tumbled or beveled, just flat) tile for the backsplash. Since I have a recessed niche with shelf above my cook top, I put in a skinny linear mosaic there which is the same coloration as the backsplash, but brings in a change in texture in the spot . It looks nice, but I would not have done it if that area was not a niche. My sister had a piece of her granite counter top fashioned into a square and had it installed there as an accent. It looks nice too, but it's just for decoration, she can't put things there bc there's no shelf. I cook cook cook everyday, so I need my salt and pepper, oils, etc right there which is why we put the niche/shelf which is why we varied the tile in that spot. If I didn't need or want the niche/shelf, I don't think I'd vary the tile in that spot. My other sister placed a large, beautiful, very old wooden cutting board with a long handle on it there, and that looks very pretty. It's practical because she uses it, and it brings in a nice soft and warm element in the midst of all the gray, white and hard surfaces. Since you have wood floors, that might be a nice way to bring an element up to tie into the floor visually....See MoreBacksplash to barstools: better to play up colors or blend in?
Comments (21)FWIW, and per @thinkdesignlive request, here are some updated photos of the wood floors (now being installed) near one kitchen cabinet. The first pic is the closest color match to reality; the second pic shows the floors a few feet away, with less natural light on them. (This was taken at midday.) The same wood floor (10 feet away) looking darker in the northeast-facing living room (and three IKEA bathroom vanities awaiting install). One more shot of the backsplash wall. The floating walnut shelves are supposed to be installed this week, but I'm wondering if it makes more sense to hold off until after backsplash is done? This may take a few months at the rate I'm going. I seesaw on how much color to do and am intrigued with going with a neutral dimensional to add texture as @Sabrina Alfin' suggested....See Morefromflorida
