I have a Counter depth Bosch 800 Integra. Side by side. I will say that the CD Bosch S by S held the same amount of food as our SuperBa Kitchen Aid. We were shocked the day we moved all our food into the new refrig. I am still amazed how the German Designers have utilized every bit of space in the CD Bosch. We do have an extra frig. It is not the old Superba but a far smaller one and only about 1/4 of the space is used. A waste of energy. We are a family of 5 with extended family visiting often. We eat veggies, drink juices and use a refrig to it's capacity in the main kitchen. Think about how you eat? Do you use your refrig for fruits, veggies, meats, frozen, drinks, milk, leftovers... This might help you to see how what would work for you. I did happen to see a freezer for $200 at Lowes. I might think about getting rid of our extra and just buying a small chest Freezer. Thinking...

How many people in your home? How often do you entertain? Do you cook a lot and have leftovers or cook ahead for the week? How frequently do you food shop? Do you find that your current fridge is not large enough or too large? Not only do I have a CD bottom freezer fridge but it is also only 24 inches wide. I love CD in my small kitchen but it fits our lifestyle. We are a 2 person household (not including our pets), entertain infrequently and then only in small groups and have a 4 supermarkets within a 5 minute drive. I typically do not cook ahead but this fridge has great freezer storage. We had a 33x33x33 that was just too large for the room and for us which we moved into the garage but there is nothing in it. Now that the holidays are approaching, that will probably change. Since we were downsizing on the fridge to accomplish our goal of "everything in the L-shaped layout while adding a DW to the mix", we bought the LG which was one of the cheaper 24 inch models but left room to go taller if we decided the narrow fridge would work for us. If it didn't, we would fill in the area with a 24 inch pantry cab and buy a bigger fridge and move it across to the opposite wall where it was originally at which time I would still buy a CD but probably a 30 inch model although a 36 would fit (but that really is too big for us). A big plus for CD is I can see right to the back, in the old fridge, stuff always got lost. But again, this is what works for our household. Good luck to you!

The biggest issue with counter depth (paneled or not) is that are not really counter depth, they stick out past the surrounding cabinets by three or more inches. When I first remodeled our kitchen back in 1986, I used a panel ready Amana that was 27" deep, plus the door thickness. I built the whole surrounding cabinet wall 27" deep all the way to the end of that run, so only the doors stuck out past the cabinet. The first photo is what it looked like in late 2012 just before my last makeover. This also made for nice 27" deep pantry pullouts on the left end, and extra deep uppers. Another benefit, is that the counter overhang (butcherblock) has a place to die into on the side of the refer cab. The next photo shows my fully integrated 30" Liebherr a couple months later, the old Amana was 32", so I had to add to the face frame, and the Liebherr is a foot taller, so the upper needed modification as well. There is now 3" dead space behind the fridge, but who knows, or cares? The big 27" deep drawers where the oven was ended up being one of the best windfalls in the recent makeover :) third drawer down is a warming drawer ....

Why Hamma? Because most Americans say they need humongous refrigerators/freezers. I hear people say they need to store the meat they killed on a hunt. They have very large parties every weekend. They cater large parties. They have many children who need many snacks all day long. Maybe they live many miles away from the nearest grocery store or supermarket. One of the posters above mentioned pizza boxes and soda/beer can boxes. (Not sure why you'd need to put a whole pizza or beverage box in the fridge.) Personally I have none of those issues. I do not like nor need a large hulking refrigerator. Counter depth is a cost-effective way to avoid the behemoth fridge look in the kitchen. Yes, they do protrude a few inches, but not as much as a conventional depth one. I have the same KA counter depth fridge (cost $2,000) as Anglophilia in my vacation rental home, and after 7 years it's still working fine, and looks great. In my primary residence we went for a 42" side by side built in Subzero, which protrudes only about 2", but is much more expensive ($9,000 retail). Fully integrated Subzeros are totally flush with the cabinets, and require expert installers.
