Why don't people make shower doors out of acrylic?
Comments (48)"they are not huge nor are they that heavy" The glass is custom 1/2" thick glass 5 1/2 ft tall sitting on top of a 2ft high tub wall. Each pane is well over 100lbs, there are 3 panes across (pic attached). If a single pane is on the floor and you've got 2 guys prepped to lift it, i guess it's not that heavy. If you're a kid taking a shower and a 100+ pound pane whose top height is 7 1/2 ft from the floor comes down on you, that's a different story. Edit: i wanna say it's actually closer to 200 lbs per pane because i have glass in my other shower too, and it is much lighter than the glass in this shower....See MoreSemi-finished but I don't care 'cause we are in!! Comments (44)kelly~ After posting on another thread to see more of your house photos, I did a search and this thread came up. OMG!!!! Your house turned out SPECTACULAR. It is soooo gorgeous. I love it all. There's not one thing I see that I think should be different. It is perfect. I too love the kitchen, the wood ceiling, the stone walls, and both of the showers. That slate is amazing! That's the most gorgeous application of slate I've ever seen (and I happen to adore slate!!). I am so happy that you have moved in. How goes the progress? Are you hosting the holiday's in your gorgeous new home? It would be a crime to keep that beauty all to yourselves. LOL. :o) Is that an outdoor shower? My goodness. I could just look at your photos all day. The trees in the front are gorgeous. The view looks amazing. The colors are perfect. The wood is sublime. Girl, you couldn't have done it better. It's stunning. And I too can see why you have oodles of equity in it already! Many happy years in your new home. :o) SusanL~ I too bought the Harrod's Creek plans from Cornerstone. We ended up not building that plan (too expensive for the area we were in... it was "overbuilding" for there). We purchased a home in your state and are having it finished. So now we're "neighbors". I hope you'll post photos of your house as you progress. It was my favorite home, and I still hope to build it somewhere, someday. :o)...See MoreIs Oak considered 'too out of fashion' ?
Comments (46)Have been thinking about this thread and others with some similar content. A reminder that the proviso "I think that" belongs before every flat statement about what is ugly or hopelessly dated. Not every oak kitchen with white formica was terrible. These were merely a fad that got so popular that the look became common. "Orange" oak is not leprosy. In fact, in the 1970s we tried to camouflage quartersawn oak to make it less ugly and hopelessly dated but it wasn't leprous, only tainted by being the furniture of our grandparents' homes which we didn't want in ours. Poor quality was one aspect of the oak kitchen fad. It was easy to create low-quality for a certain segment of the buying public and there was willingness to buy it by a certain segment of the buying public. But there was quality also, even in those dark days, and it is a part of our nation's decorating history also. We've had some good threads about how to redecorate and repurpose a 70s-80s kitchen. If you're in the segment of GW readers who is stuck with a hopelessly orange out of fashion ugly workplace you needn't hang your head. But you might not want to post a photo on the GW for a few years unless you are wearing Teflon....See MoreOLD FASHION X-mas Cactus, Out There?
Comments (63)The ones you sent me Nancy, are not in bloom yet. It might not have gotten cold enough to set blooms its first year here in Ft.laud. Sorry I lost your email address to let you know it is doing well. I still have the card/letter you sent me with the sections you sent me. I have lost a lot of the smaller cuttings over the summer, but the big one is doing well. I am watching for buds, my 'new' style X-Mas cactus' are setting buds, but it is not as exciting as waiting to see if I get any from my Old Christmas cactus. It reminds me of my gram/mom, and Conn. These new varieties don't. I almost bought a few of the newer varieties, on E-bay. But tiny 3 segment cuttings are over $25-50!!! Named ones like 'Samba Brazil', 'Inca Sun' and 'Aspen', and a few are $99!! For tiny segments. That is obscene!! How rare are these?? So...ill never see these in person, in my lifetime, in my collections....See Moremdln
