We just started demo yesterday! I'm amazed how fast it goes, though you are already way ahead of us! It's so exciting to have those icky gross dirty etc cabs and counter gone! Our friend (experienced handyman/etc) is doing it, though DH is helping on Friday and Saturday. All cabs/counters and some really horrible paneling is gone. Old vinyl floor is gone. That was yesterday. We determined that the soffit has to stay :( the floor under the leaky sink isn't rotted :) what we thought was a support wall isn't :) So I guess that means it's going well!

By end of day Saturday we expect the floor to be ready for putting down new vinyl (ick, but whatever), new drywall to be up, non-support wall to be gone, I think the electric rewiring (old house) to be done. Monday new floors, and after that ... uh ... finishing walls and putting in new stuff?

Our electrician had to sort out all kinds of hack jobs. The guy who built our home was a reputable local plumber, but he had some interesting hacks too. It will be much better now, but yesterday is not a day I want to do again!

I couldn't believe how nasty the stuff we took out looked on the curb. No one took anything and that's unusual around here lol.

I had to keep my old floor. It's not that bad - flagstone slate. We need to glue down some loose ones, strip it and seal it, but then it will look brand new. And it really does go well with the rest of the house. We're saving that task for last.

Jem199, you're killing me on how fast it's going for you! I thought mine was all lined up too.

Demo started yesterday, after I had to push the GC to stop doing another job and keep to the months-old time frame. The flooring guy cancelled on me for tomorrow ("of course I can lay the whole floor Friday").

Some of the unexpected items I know I have to pay for: moving an HVAC pipe and rerouting a drain vent pipe. I can't tell if the GC thinks he gets to charge me for ripping out more of the ceiling and drywall than he had in mind. I'd better keep a log of what's happening!

You know that thread, "what are you eating?". My answer is NOTHING. I am so grossed out by using a bathroom sink for food items that I have lost almost all of my appetite. I know it's illogical but that's just the way it is. Thank goodness I didn't get a hotplate. There's no way I'm cleaning a pan in there!!

nancyfay - we have a tiny leetle kitchen and aren't doing much of a different layout:

BIL came up a few weeks ago and installed a counter and a drop-in laundry sink for us in our mudroom so we have a pretty nice temp kitchen:

He's priming right now and so is a bit behind on the cabinets. But he assures me he will be done installing cabinets tomorrow. Here's what it looked like when I got home:

Demo was Monday and only took 3 hours. DH and I spent the evening painting the kitchen (only 10 X 10 and only had to paint the walls that won't be covered with cabs), move an outlet and a phone jack. Contractor discovered a little mold on the sheetrock, so he ripped it out and reinstalled a new sheet on Tuesday morning. Spent a little time evening out the floor, too. As of today, cabinets are about 75% in. We aren't moving any walls, so it's going fast. Tomorrow, cabinet install should be complete and stone-look laminate floor will be started. Counter people are coming to template tomorrow afternoon. So a lot happens this week, then we just wait until counter is ready in 8 days.

I'm thrilled with our contractor. Very pleasant, always punctual, very careful and detail oriented. We've done a few little DIY parts ourselves, and some of them have made his job a little harder. But he is very nice about it.

After a really long time having all the cabinets in our house site built, the cabinet maker finally cleared out last Thursday. So now we're into painting and laquering the cabinets. Next is electrical, plumbing, appliances, flooring. Backsplash in there somewhere. It's a whole house project, not just kitchen, but our builder said we'd be done 4 weeks after the cabinet guy drove away. So now he's got three weeks and one day to finish!

Demo started last Monday, finished on Wednesday. Gas and electrical were all done on Thursday, but Friday everything grinded to a halt.

Ventilation sub was supposed to be here to install venting for the range hood so the drywall could be finished out. He was a no show on Friday, again on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday.

Contractor tells me a new ventilation guy will be here tomorrow. My garage is full of custom made cabinets and everything else is ready to go, so we will see.....

Wow, you guys are moving along fast! My Conestoga RTAÂs came yesterday but demolition will not start till next week. I am sooooooo impressed with my purchase, so much nicer than I even imagined quality wise and looks. My kitchen will not be grand but it will be small and mighty. IÂm still going through the boxes and need to clear out all excess cardboard and wrapÂlots to do yet. I know we will not be moving as swiftly however I did show husband this thread last night and we were both inspired by all your progress and it made us feel so much better that there really is light at the other end of the tunnel. I'm soooo tired of arguing with my BIL GC. I have to keep reminding myself we saved $2k by using him and I will only need a fraction of that $ to fix some of his hacks.

You see that light wire coming off the center of the cab above the sink? That should have been drilled on either end of the cab not the center.
I'm hoping this will not be visible when the valance goes over the sink.

Our original plan called for a 5" panel to bring the cabs to the ceiling with a very plain crown molding like this:

I knew it would be plain and I also knew I could add onto it if I didn't like it - no problemo at all. Just buy it and tack it up there. Easy-peasy add-on.

I ordered trim for the bottom of the uppers to hide the LED lightbars and created a more finished look that looks a lot like this:

I ordered a valance to go over the sink, like this:

I planned double pulls for the larger drawers since my pulls are on the small side and I wanted everything uniform, like this:

BIL and DH just called me at work. They think the bottom trim should be added to the crown. They want to leave off the sink valance since "We don't need it"
even though its MY plan AND he drilled centered instead of side for the light wire. They think the larger drawers should have a single cenetered pull.
You see the theme here? My plans are harder than what they are trying to convince me will "look better." It's harder to drill more pull holes.
It's harder to install a valance and line it up in the front so the don't steal the space for my lightbars and wine glass racks. It's harder to install finished bottoms
than throw that trim on the crown.

I have sooo much to catch up on since I've been running home to make contingency decisions all week. I'm so fed up I want to hop on a place to
Vegas and just sit by a pool and drink fruity rum drinks.

LolÂJen and the power pull, I have already had a small taste of that. We will be using some help from my husbandÂs place of employment, they have build structures on site for storage and other buildings, the head guy just put a new kitchen in his home (his first). There has already been a power pull with how many cm my 14 ½ overhang eat-in counter/sink/dishwasher stone counter will be. Although I will need supports I want 3cm, husbands work says I only need 2cm. I told husband 2 may be right for some countertops but may not be right for what I WANT and I am in charge and lets not forget that. Counter is a long way offÂAnyway, I am doing a back-up plan with an experienced cabinet installer who has little work at this time to assist, just in case. Now IÂm off to get some boxes and have no idea were the things I take out will live temporarily with all the new cabs in the house. I am going to have to muster up lots of patience for the disorder ahead. Also need to knock some common sense into everyoneÂdonÂt use my booÂs block table as a work surface with no protection, do not wipe dry wall dust off upholstered counter stools with a soaking wet cloth ectÂ

Good luck to all those who are installing now... we are still in a holding pattern waiting for our sink to arrive so that the quartz fabricator can cut the CS to fit and install the countertops.

Eastbaymom, what CS have you chosen? I'm getting CS also - one of the new colors, chocolate truffle. They templated for it yesterday, and it will be installed one week from today. But you can't hook up plumbing for 24 hours, and my plumber doesn't work weekends, so we have to wait a couple extra days beyond that.

I'm sooo behind at work now from babysitting the install and too stressed to even manage that. I can catch up tomorrow. Luckily my boss had her kitchen overhauled a couple years ago and is all like 'get out, go set them straight, it's YOUR kitchen.' So that's good.

Crown is in as planned, double pulls are on drawers, the valance wasn't delivered so we're holding off on all the molding on the bottom uppers. That works out anyway cus the island needs some major help. I need to send dimensions and photos to my KD to get some different finishing plans now. Ce la vie! Whatever we do there might require a different valance anyway as a tie in. So that worked out. Here's what we look like now:

Chocolatetruffle -- we are getting "buttermilk" which is a pale, creamy color. I think it will go in sometime this coming week, assuming that the sink appears.

Granite guy just called. He's templating on Tuesday. I'm interviewing finsihing carpenters tomorrow to trim out my island and do some wood touch ups. I've been putting down contact paper and arguing with DH about what goes where. So much for all my plans! But it looks sooooo good.

My slate floor needs some major work, but we decided to relax a but after we get the ktichen back together. We'll tackle that in the Fall. I have some of my son's friends lined up to help us scrape tiles.
