Drilling 9-inch round holes in 15" high cabinets...bad idea?
Comments (2)As long as the cabinets are securely fastened to each other, and to the wall, it's fine. Be careful not to rack the cabinets from the pressure of the cut. It would be best to do the holes before you assembled the cabinets, on a flat surface, or with a drill press to rough out the outline with smaller holes, then use a jig saw to connect the dots. I would personally use glue to assemble them as well....See MoreNeed help with storage ideas for 48 inch space please.
Comments (4)I think you need to go into Word, Excel, or whatever program you use and make a list of everything you need to store. Do you have lots of oil and vinegar bottles and need a big pull-out for them? Do you need a big trash-sized container for rice or pet food? Do you have lots of canned goods that need low-height storage, or flours and pastas that need more head room? The dish storage opens up a whole can of worms related to where your sink, dishwasher, and refrigerator are. I saw your other thread on your layout - not sure if you've finalized it? Once you've decided for sure where your appliances are going, it'll be easier to figure out dish storage. It helped me to color-code my dish groupings (prepware in green, bakeware in brown, cookware in red, everyday dishes in blue) and assign a place for them around the kitchen. Give each drawer or cabinet a letter and number: for example, Pantry Pull-Out 1 (P-PO-1), Pantry Pull-Out 2 (P-PO-2). Play around with assigning your foods and dishes to different locations, in your table. It helps to have a print-out of your plan, with the codes written in. This sounds like a lot of work, but it feels good to do it. My apologies if I went over-the-top. :) Cate...See MoreCan I hack a trash pull-out from an Ikea 15 inch depth cabinet base
Comments (19)The left is mounted on the side panel and the right is mounted on a special piece that IKEA sold for this application. Don't know if they still sell it, but I'm sure it could be reproduced. The center piece is basically a 1 1/2" piece of MDF that extends the depth of the cab and is secured at the back and front to the bottom of the cab. It functions as a short cab wall and I have a drawer rail mounted on both sides. In your case you could position in where you need to achieve your right wall. I hope I'm explaining this clearly enough, but hope this pic helps. I can take more pix tomorrow if that will help you. Comments (10)Well, I'm disappointed! I did not know that IKEA Sektion discontinued 12 inch drawers. I have an Akurum kitchen, with 2 12 inch, a 15 inch and 18" pull out, plus I hacked pullouts under my sink and converted another base cabinet. I was going to suggest ordering 12 inch door parts and attaching them to the 12 inch door. But since they no longer make 12 inch drawers that's not possible. It's really too bad since the 12 inch can act as filler many times and I find them quite useful. I have a 15 inch pullout next to my range that holds oils and other baking items. I do like the function of the drawers that pull out independently though since it can become very difficult to reach items when they are all attached to the door. Mine only has the base attached to the door with two independent drawers that I spaced according to the height of my items. I do actually like the Sektion 12 inch pull out since one side of it is not attached so it looks like it will be easy to reach items. I'd like it even better if I could add a small drawer pull out at the top of it. Sorry I was premature in my assumption that the new line would be more similar to the old in function. Hope you find what works for you....See Morepuertasdesign
