Comments (36)Lucretzia, it has been about 5 months and so far, so good. We also have a dry bar adjacent to our dining room and the granite guys forgot to seal it! We got red wine stains on it right away...it is a bar after all! :) I managed to get them out with bleach...thank goodness...and hubby ran to the hardware store to buy a sealer and we sealed it right away. We also spilled wine on the island (which was sealed) and it wiped up easily...no problem. So, I assume as long as it is kept sealed, we should be ok. Not only is our granite honed, but it is also pitted in some areas. It is pretty cool and we get lots of positive comments about how unique it is. The only problem so far with the pitting is when my 4-year old daughter paints at the bar, I have had to use a little brush to get paint out of one of the "pits" already. No biggie, but if the counter was polished, it wouldn't be an issue at all. We had polished at our last house and it was super easy to keep clean. That said, I would do honed again in a minute. It really suits our space. I think as long as we maintain the sealer on it we should be fine. The good part is due to the movement of the stone, even if it does get a stain, it will probably blend right in! :)...See MoreSoft white cabinets -- what company makes the least yellow/cream?
Comments (4)White has to have some color undertones to be "off white". Those color undertones can be bluish (very cold feeling). Greenish (also cold, and throws other colors off) Red (most people HATE pink undertones in their cabinets, despite it being a fairly flattering undertone for complexions) Grey (a true gray that has no mix of any other tint in it than black will take on different tones in different lights, but most do feel "cool") Yellow (This is what most "cream" colors have their basis in as it's a warm tone. Too much can leave it feeling "nicotine stained" though.) Orange (This is a VERY tricky undertone to pull off, but it can work quite well to give a warm feel to the white. ) Yellow undertones are the most popular off white, and they are the easiest to work with when planning a room as most woods have yellow undertones. Grays are popular at the moment, but as a long term choice, they will not stand the test of time as an "off white". They do better standing alone as "gray" by choosing a dark enough tone that it shifts to that rather than "off white"....See MoreLooking for a good white paint color for my kitchen cabinets
Comments (9)Love the kitchen as is, and love the dog. I don’t think you should paint the cabinets. It will make your white hood look off, and I think it will be tough to get the right white to go with your counters. There are a thousand shades of white, some warm, some cool, and it’s very difficult to choose one when you already have an expanse of white counters and an expanse of white hood....See MoreWhat color creamy/white wall paint with Simply White BM cabinets?
Comments (8)Simply White in flat looks a little different than Simply White in semi-gloss. Are your cabinets semi-gloss or eggshell/satin? The difference in sheen changes our perception of the color. My point being you could just paint the walls Simply White and there will be some contrast. If you want more contrast, look at Floral White OC-29 and Soft Chamois OC-13. Soft Chamois for me is a little too bright in a south facing room but brightens up rooms with different exposures. As with all paint, the only way you're going to know what is going to work in your space is to sample....See MoreRelated Professionals
