Anyone with Natural Cork floors?
Comments (9)Hi, Thanks for your response. My cork floor was installed in the kitchen at the end of April and I moved in May 1st. I'm single, don't wear high heels and am very careful to wipe up any water spilled on the cork immediately. About 2 weeks ago, I used the recommended cleaner and polish. The finish on the cork seems to be worse since then (cracking and ripping). When I called the Natural Cork technical Assistance, they told me to go thru the dealer where I bought the cork and file a claim. When the cork was installed, I debated whether to add a coat of water based polyurethane. But no where in the installation or maintenance directions did Natural Cork recommend doing that. As I was afraid I'd void the warranty if I did add the polyurethane, I didn't put a coat or 2 on. Now, I regret that I didn't put the polyurethane as the cork doesn't seem to be wearing well. I love the feel of cork and love the way it looks in my kitchen. I'm just disappointed the floor doesn't seem like it will last. Any suggestions? twobengalsandme, I have a mat down in front of the sink and dishwasher. It is a microfiber rug with a light rubber backing that I got at BB&B. Why is this light rubber backing bad for my cork floor? It's not a sticky type of adhesion. Is it still bad? Thanks for your comments and help! Karen...See Morecork flooring anyone
Comments (7)We've got AmCork in floating planks. Absolutley LOVE it. It's our 2nd cork floor. I went lighter and with a matte finish this time- you seal it after installation even when they come with factory finish to help with sealing the grooves. The matte feels like walking on silk, and it doesn't show dirt. SCORE!!!! Had a water leak in Sept- the old cork had been down for about 10 years or more, sealed ONCE when installed, and definately used and abused by dogs (all sizes from 10 lbs to over 100) 2 cats, messy cook (me) and a hubby who insisted on sitting on his "throne" (old stool with metal legs that constanty needed new rubber boots, but rarely got them). Mopped it with everything from a scooba to Swiffer to good ole Pinesol. Had a heart attack in 09- floor didn't get mopped for months on end (I couldn't, Dh didn't and it took me forever to convince him to hire a cleaning lady). Never even showed it was dirty- which I can't say the same about my tile floors in the bathrooms.......See MoreFlooring choice?
Comments (1)We are planning to use a Wicander cork product as a floating floor in the kitchen. That is a product that has an MDF core, and some will caution about the risk of that swelling with significant water damage. Our contractor and architect haven't had a lot of people choose it (mostly aesthetic, I think), but they didn't think it would be a huge problem. The flooring stores locally said they have moved away from glue down cork tiles (without an MDF core) and almost exclusively use the floating product....See MoreMixed flooring in kitchen - anyone have it?
Comments (3)Hey there - we have hardwoods in most of our kitchen and slate in part - where the side door is and where the dog hangs out. I was a little concerned that I'd bang my feet on the wood transition, but we have had no problems and I'm SO glad we did it. The slate matches our main entry, which adjoins the kitchen on the other side - Here's a picture, although a weird one....See MoreRelated Professionals
