Does anyone hate/regret your cork flooring?
Comments (22)Here is note from old post by Cancork These are "dimples" they "pop" back out! These are not permanent, they are NOT defects, they are not "damage". If this was oak, you would have added "character" to the floor = permanant damage. Try using a HOT WET CLOTH, and put it in the microwave for 15 seconds. Using an oven mit, place the super-heated cloth onto the dimples and let it rest until the cloth is cool to the touch. Remove and evaluate the floor. Congratulations...you have just discovered the "memory" that cork possesses. Cork is the "trampoline" of hard surfaces. It compresses and rebounds. The finish on WE cork = NORMAL for cork. The finish MUST BEND AND TWIST with cork. If you put a hard, brittle finish on cork (like Wicanders and Torlys) you end up with a cracked mess that hazes (turns milky) in a few years. A cork floor is the softest hardwood on the market. Like ALL HARDWOODS it requires occasional maintenance. This maintenance requires you to ADD FINISH every 7-10 years depending on the wear. A low impact home with a low quality "urethane finish" cork means the finish must be reapplied every 2-3 years. A high end polyurethane finish means the refinishing needs to be done every 7 years. That same finish in a low traffic home = 10 years. The N. American mind set = tough = hard. Cork is forgiving and durable...in a different way than hardwood. Remember: if you are left "unphased" by dents left in a carpet (a carpet leaves more dents than cork...something to think about) then dimples left in cork shouldn't upset you. If you have the personality that insists that everything needs to look perfect, for decades without any form of "living" showing on the floor, then ceramic tiles are the perfect option. I know many people who love cork for the quiet comfort of it...it is easy to keep clean and is lovely to walk on in bare feet. I also know several people who wanted all of those things but could not "handle" the small dimples things would leave behind....See MoreDo you have a Wipe/Cork or Magnetic board in the kitchen?
Comments (15)I love the memory board idea, but I transferred my calendar to digital and I will never go back. I can access my calendar on my phone anywhere, which is very handy for creating new appointments on the fly (like while still at the dentist) and for remembering where I need to be and where my kids should be. A grocery list is only good when you can take it to the grocery store, which... if you write the list down on a white board, you'd have to transfer it to a piece of paper later. But the memory board is cute and fun! :o)...See Morecork flooring anyone
Comments (7)We've got AmCork in floating planks. Absolutley LOVE it. It's our 2nd cork floor. I went lighter and with a matte finish this time- you seal it after installation even when they come with factory finish to help with sealing the grooves. The matte feels like walking on silk, and it doesn't show dirt. SCORE!!!! Had a water leak in Sept- the old cork had been down for about 10 years or more, sealed ONCE when installed, and definately used and abused by dogs (all sizes from 10 lbs to over 100) 2 cats, messy cook (me) and a hubby who insisted on sitting on his "throne" (old stool with metal legs that constanty needed new rubber boots, but rarely got them). Mopped it with everything from a scooba to Swiffer to good ole Pinesol. Had a heart attack in 09- floor didn't get mopped for months on end (I couldn't, Dh didn't and it took me forever to convince him to hire a cleaning lady). Never even showed it was dirty- which I can't say the same about my tile floors in the bathrooms.......See Moreanyone with cork in the kitchen, shout out!
Comments (9)We put in USFloors glue down tiles in the kitchen. Love it! Like any floor you sweep regularly. We damp mop with water when needed and so far no problems. The only small issue we had was using a folding chair that I forgot to put felt pads on. The regular chairs with pads have left no marks at all. The chair with no pads and a 300lb guy left some dents, but they are gradually fading away. I wish we had more rooms for cork, but our basement isn't a candidate (below grade so no glue down, rare flooding, so no floating floors), DH didn't want two different corks in adjacent rooms on the first floor, and unless I redo the whole banister install the small upstairs will need to stay carpet. Do install UV filters first. I bought some for the slider and didn't get around to it, then it was too cold for months (per product instal specs). Now I have significant fading in that area. My fault, I knew that going in. Still looks ok as it's not a sharp edge, all gradual....See Morenicoletouk
