Thank you Breezy - I just ordered some stools for my island (actually its a peninsula). I have been eyeing them and they are just SO expensive so the 20% is very helpful.

MDP--which stools to go with your oh-so-lovely-even-though-I-haven't-seen-it-yet kitchen? I guess I'm doing OK. Some days are better than others. Yesterday was a bad day. I've been thinking a lot about my Dad's voice over the past week. What I wouldn't give to hear it one more time.

breezy..any old voice mails you can listen to? I have a message on an old-school answering machine from my mom. Haven't listened to it in years, but I treasure knowing its there. I don't have anything from my dad...not much home technology like that when he died 26+ years ago.

Bee--I kick myself for erasing a voicemail he left me about a week before he died. In the 18 days between his diagnosis and death, we spoke with and saw each other very often as I went with him to his many dr appointment and procedures. I also made an extra effort to have my phone by me so I could answer whenever he called. My OCD got the better of me to keep my voicemail cleared out when I deleted that last message. I asked my youngest DB if he had one saved, and he too wishes he'd kept the one our dad left him the afternoon before he died.

This is a good reason for DH to finally figure out how the old video camera connects to the tv for viewing. I'm sure we must he recorded him and his voice at a family party or holiday sometime over the last few years. We have thousands of photos, but I'd really love to hear his voice. It always made me smile.

I'll tell you, 25 years later, it's still soothing and reassuring to hear daddy's voice.

My dad was a meteorologist on television. Back in the ultra new beta/vhs days, we taped my dad giving the weather. He always started with "it's ten'oclock, do you know where your children are?" I think he coined that phrase. And, on Friday night, he said, "Have a great weekend, and I will see you in church".
Haven't watched those videos in a long time, this makes me want to get them out and watch him.
If you have videos, they will be priceless. Make copies, just in case anything happens to the original.

I saw that sale yesterday and called to ask if they had the glass cabinet knob and she told me they have a few in stock and then you can order more if need be online OR if you let them order in the store - there is FREE shipping. This is in NY so don't know if that is standard at all stores.

Breezy, I have been so busy I have only been on here sporadically and didn't realize your Dad had passed... I am so sorry for your loss - only 18 days, not much time to prepare for life without him. My thoughts are with you.

re: the stools I will link below what i went with. pricey so the 20% off was a big savings. i like that they swivel. DH asked for a stool with a back but I had really wanted to tuck them under the counter when not in use as every inch in this kitchen counts and I didn't want too much bulk.

i ended up getting one with a back for him and three without backs - my set up is one stool at the end and three on the side so i guess it will be okay but i hope it doesn't look weird like they were out of stock on four of the same or something.

oh well, after what you've been through how can any of us worry too much about these very trivial matters.
