the table is workable, definite possibilities -it's greenish,right? the wall color is off...can you get a gallon of some neutral-or for color do an interesting red...I'd look on line for the clear lucite chairs or black modern-italian styled or black parsons-go for a more transitional style with some ambience-see what stylish chairs you can find online -not too pricey-figure it's not a forever purchase. Would not do benches-comfy pedestal chairs would suit the table:but the well made ones aren't real cheap...it depends on your taste and budget like everything else.[kitchen is quite nice!]

I don't mind the table, but think it would be better in a color that wasn't so close to the wall (unless you're planning to change your wall color). I don't care for the chairs at all with all those pieces on the floor sticking out, waiting to stub a toe or trip someone.

Those are our kids high chairs (which are moving to the dining room).

I want a bench because we can put a few kids at the table.

The paint color isn't my favorite, but DH won't hear of repainting it.

As to clear lucite - our house is mostly more traditional - wouldn't that look out of place?

ok then leave the wall color-find bold placemats/runner or oil cloth cover that has blues and greens to tie the wall to table.Perhaps large graphic picture on wall-but it's tight-you don't want to constantly nudge it. Bench?-how about just one,and 2 chairs=mix itup a little then. No-you don't have to worry about matchy-matchy with the traditional home because this little nook is separated from other areas visually. I guess people know their own comfort level with pushing themselves in stylistic ways. I look at this spot as a place to do something a little different and unexpected.....to get a smile when you look there or walk by.

Oh, that's funny that they're highchairs. I had no idea, just wondered why there were all those pieces of wood on the floor. :) Wow, triplets? I like the idea of at least one bench, and that might be fun for your kids when they're out of the highchairs.

Not triplets. They are 4, 2 and 1. These are Stokke Tripp Trapps, the best high chairs ever invented!

I'm a little afraid of stepping too far out of the box. I don't mind a bench along the wall and the chairs on the other side.

I think lucite is too far out of my comfort zone, but lets see if I can stretch it a bit. HAHA!

Leaving the wall color wouldn't be an option for me. If DH wouldn't paint it, I would. But that's me....
Can the table move out at all? 2 sides are always looking at a wall. Seems kind of boxed in to me.

The table can come out, but the space against the wall will only be easily usable with a bench.

this might be a situation where the best option long term is to build a banquette. I would mock it up with the table pulled OUT and over to the right, and use cardboard or lines for a 2 sided banquette-using the short AND long walls.[gain of that nice corner spot]. When just the right small chair or stool appears at an antique show or flea market you can add it if you want to the free side of table....but you would have quite a bit of seating with the 2 sided banquette and probably wouldn't really need anything else.

To me, your table area is calling for a nook or banquette. You can use ikea cabinets to inexpensively and not permanently create a banqutte. I used 12" ikea upper cabinets to create a bench and it served my kids well for a long time. After a while, we had a 15" upholstered top made for the bench (which cost significantly more than the bench cabinets).

If I was to do the ikea bench again, I would use 2x4 pcs. of wood to create a base for the cabinets or leave the doors off the cabinets and use baskets for storage. The way I had it, the cabinet doors scraped on the floor.
