Super susan owner here. I love it!! It fits all of my small appliances. Doesnt waste any space. Would get one again. Cabinets are Brookhaven.

I'm not clear...do you have a blind corner (access the corner from one side of the cabinet run...typically 42" to 48" along the back of one side of the corner and 24" along the back of the other) or an actual corner (typically 33 inches to 36" along each back side of the corner, with access from an angled or L shaped door in the center of the corner?)

For an actual corner...I heartily endorse a super susan, but many folks like the Blum corner drawers.

For a blind base corner, there are several options..including a half circle lazy susan or pull-out/swing out units. Rev-a-shelf makes both and I have experience with the half circle lazy susan which is OK. But for a pull-out/swing out unit, the only one I would consider is the Hafele Magic Corner...far sturdier than any others, but very costly. You can easily search for either of these options.

I ended up going with a super susan and absolutely love it for storing all my small appliances and keeping them off the countertops. I did come across something when I was at Lee Valley which might be what you are looking for.

I have an actual corner cabinet with the L-shaped door, not a blind corner. Thomasville calls it an "easy-reach," but it ain't that easy to reach in the back unless you like crawling. They did offer the super susan and I suppose I should have gone with that, but at the time I didn't realize how it could be any different from a regular lazy susan (which i don't like). Ah well, live and learn...

KitchenSource and I think LeeValley have something similar to a super susan, which I guess I'll just have to retrofit into the cabinet.

It sounds like you have a corner cabinet that's meant to hold either a corner susan (lazy or super) or stationary shelves. That's the one that's usually 36" along the wall on both sides of the corner. (Some are 33" on one or both sides, but they're less useful b/c the front opening is smaller.)

If you do indeed have a corner cab meant for a susan, what do you have in it right now? Do you have stationary shelves? Based on your post, it sounds like this is what you have. If so, I would still consider getting super susan "turntables" for them.


FYI...

A "lazy" susan is the one with a center pole. A "super" susan is the one with no center pole and with "turntable" type shelves mounted on stationary shelves. There are pros & cons to both.

Pro(s) to both:

• It's very easy to access whatever is stored in it...everything is in front. All you have to do is rotate the shelves and what you want is right in front of you!

If something does fall off (in the cabinets w/out a curved wall, more on that later), it's much easier to get o the item than if you have a blind corner cabinet and something fall off. With a blind corner, you have to reach (if you have very long arms) or crawl into a cabinet that's deep inside a "blind" area. [This reason plus the fact that many of those "half-moon" units don't last is one of the reasons my KD discourages blind corners of any kind.]
Note: The pie-cut type cabinet (90-degree angle instead of diagonal front) gives you a bigger opening than a diagonal opening. It also gives you more useful floorspace and counter frontage, less of a "closed in" feeling (particularly in small-to-medium size kitchens), and less inaccessible deep corner space.

Pro(s) to a lazy susan:

• Biggest pro, IMHO, is that the walls of cabinets designed specifically for lazy susans follow the contour of the round (or pie-cut) shelves so closely that I'm not sure even a grain of rice could fall off the shelves.

Another big pro, again IMHO, is that if you have the pie-cut type, the doors can be attached to the shelves and rotate into the cabinet when you open it. No doors banging the adjoining cabinets...something that can be an issue, especially the doors that are two pieces attached with a piano hinge with the doors flopping about.

Pro(s) to a super susan:

• No center pole in the middle to limit the size of items you can store on a shelf.

No center pole to block access to items.

Con(s) to a lazy susan:

• Has a center pole in the middle that limits the size of items you can store on a shelf.

The center pole could block access to items. However, all you have to do is rotate the shelf and no more "blocking"!

Con(s) to a super susan:

• Walls are usually not (never?) curved to follow the contour of the round shelves. This is the biggest con, IMHO.

• Doors cannot be attached to the rotating shelves so the doors must be opened b/f access contents, You also have to be careful the doors do not bang into...

We have 3 corners in our kitchen. Two have access through back side--one from inside a closet (boots) and one from peninsula front (party gear).

Perhaps not an idea for you but someone might want to think about this. In an open house for a house for sale -- 1950s small kitchen -- I saw a great installation of dishwasher on outside of peninsula into blind corner!

Thanks, Buehl. I wish the KD had mentioned some of those things when we purchased the cabinets. When I asked if the super was the same as the regular susan, she just shrugged and said "pretty much" (young kid at a big box store). I haven't even started loading the cabinets; we just (mostly) finished install this weekend, although we still have to do hardware and some trim pieces. I'll just live with the stationary shelves for a little while and see what I'll be putting in that cabinet. If it doesn't work out, I'll look at some turntables.

Make sure that you're going to be able to get the turntables in your cabinet - they are pretty big.

Hehehe... good point, pudgybaby. Hopefully, I'll be able to find something that works. The cabinets are pretty big, which is actually contributing to the problem. They're sooo big that there's too much room deep in back. It is 36" and I can probably crawl full inside of it and have room to spare for the cat. Maybe I'll leave the lazy susan out altogether and use the cabinet as a hiding place to pop out every now and then and scare the beejeebies out of my SO.

Desertsteph: I really like the first of those pics, and I think that's what I had in mind at the time, but now I realize that's for a blind corner... or at least, from the pic, it looks like it's a blind corner, not a piecut-corner with the L-shaped piano-hinge door, which is what I have.
