Need faucet help: Kohler Forte R10433 vs Moen SOLIDAD 87559CSL

Any opinions on the Kohler Forte R10433-VS vs the Moen SOLIDAD 87559CSL faucet? The Kohler seems to have a good reputaion for reliablity. The moen appears to have more features. I cannot find any reviews on the Moen solidad. Sorry, I do not know how to enclose a photo. If you know anything about these faucets, I'd appreciate your help.

I can't speak about Moen but I have Forte faucet in polished chrome - I selected it because (1) switching between spray and stream regimes is easy, no need to hold down anything, and I didn't like the feel of any push-down buttons on other faucets, just felt flimsy to me, (2) I can turn it off in any position which means next time I turn it on it 'remembers' the temperature setting (most other faucets I've seen I had to return the handle in the original position), and (3) it was within my price range, I tried to stay as low as possible on my budget. Of course, I like the looks and I am not a big fan of the high long-neck faucets.

I've had it for couple of months and am as happy as I can be (gosh, it's a faucet, not a husband - lol). It has a good reach, height is just fine for my bigger dishes (and I have a 7-1/2 inch deep sink undermount on livingstone, so abt 8in total).

As far as splashing goes, I found out it's me who does the splashing, not the faucet. I had a cheapo tiny faucet before that barely reached above the sink edge, thus no splashing. With higher faucet I tend to put things higher when I wash them and it (I) splash a little. No big deal though and I may be able to retrain myself back :)

I have the Kohler Forte R10433 (aka K10433) in the vibrant stainless and love it! It is a beautiful faucet, but not too tall to block the window view. The medium size buttons on the side are easy to use and it's reach covers everything I need. I was able to find it on eBay and saved a lot of $$. Good luck!

Lbrook: Yes, I do love the tub. The manufacturer is Jason International. The tub is the Carrera oval. The three tubs in the Carrera line are made of a solid surface material in a matte finish. The surface is very smooth and holds the heat well. Just the other night after a day of doing battle with weeds, I spent just under an hour soaking in the tub. Because of the relatively straight sides, it's easy to clean. The GC and plumbers all said to get a stool for getting in and out of the tub, but I have no problem just stepping in and out. I'm only 5'4" and not as limber as in my younger days, but it still is not an issue. Because no stores near us had the tub on display, I had lots of conversations with the Jason folks. They were very good to deal with -- even sent an engineering drawing that showed the angle of the tub back. The list price is quite high. A local plumbing supply company sold it to us for just above half that, however. If you have questions about it, I'd be happy to answer them. I think I've sat in every tub out there! Well, I am a woman and I find your kitchen very appealing. :) I am a lot older than your applicant pool so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but the Hansgrohe pictured just above wouldn't turn me off at all. It is more modern than the vibe of your kitchen, though, you're right. I think if you get a high-arc faucet, either pull-down or side sprayer, you will already be ahead of the game. I vastly prefer one handle for its greater usefulness when one is Actually Cooking (i.e. has at least one hand full or messy most of the time). My plumber warns me against big box store faucets that might have plastic insides; he says if they feel heavy, they're OK. Most of our faucets came from Ferguson but I caved and ordered the most recent one (a Moen, like almost all our others) from Faucet Direct because it was so much less expensive there, and it is the same model as at Ferguson and of the same quality. (Ferguson might be able to price match if you want to check.) One last note. I don't see any problem with a white stove and a stainless DW, but the third tone (the almond trash compactor) is sort of one too many in my opinion. I know exactly what you mean about piecemeal updates, been there and still doing that to some extent. It's OK, it means you replaced things as needed instead of just for looks. The trash compactor color would definitely not make me turn walk out and rent something else -- I might not even notice, if I were a prospective renter -- but if you are going to change an appliance, that would be my vote instead of the stove. (This might be the place to remember that I am middle-aged and not swayed by stainless like younger HGTV-watching folks might be...) One last last note. I like chrome faucets fine. They are less expensive too. Just my opinion.

Hi may_flowers, I barely manage with my 24" sink. I put in the new faucet a year or two ago when my old one died, and at the same time I put in a new, stainless steel, drop-in sink to replace the original 1956 porcelain / cast iron one, plus a new garbage disposal. But I didn't replace any cabinets, so I couldn't put in a larger sink. I'm looking forward to putting a big Blanco Supersingle sink in my new house. :-) In hindsight, I should have done more. At the time I wasn't sure if I was going to remodel the house or sell it, so I just wanted something to tide me over. But now I may have to do a cheapo kitchen remodel to make it easier to sell this place once the new one is finished. Right now it mostly has the original 1956 kitchen, including an oven that looks like it came from the set of "Back to the Future". The rest of the old house is great, though. Laura

i'll be doing a lot of it myself. not changing out the sink or putting in a faucet tho - lol! I'll have to hire someone to do that for me and move the appliances around. I think I can put down some laminate flooring but it'll take me a long time. I guess I've got some of that tho. I'll have the electrician come back to replace some light fixtures and check out why I don't have cold water inside. I do at the outside spigot. He'll probably have to replace my water heater too. maybe he'll try flushing it first. the water smells. He needs to replace the handle on my water pump and maybe hook up the dw. bf will still do the outside work. He can't do a lot of things now because his balance is off. Things like getting down on the floor and under a sink would be very hard for him and he'd have a heck of a time getting back up. shoot, I do and I've got both of my feet! He can't drive his big trucks anymore either so he has to hire someone to haul his equipment out here. Once out here he can manipulate the forklift and grader fine. He's finally found someone he trusts to drive the flatbed, is putting insurance on it and replacing a few tires. Hopefully then I'll get a decent set of steps up into the new place (he has 'em I think). Or he might move one of the steps I have into this place. They are both way too heavy to move w/o the forklift. I also faxed him a very long list of things that need done yet. typed it up, type size 12 (his eye aren't so good either) and i think it was double spaced - but very little margin top and bottom. Plus I scratched in a few more things by hand before i faxed it to him. I'm also hoping I can get him to cut some of the laminate planks for me when he's out here. At least til I get comfortable doing it myself. So far I've been afraid to try it. My sister used to have a young guy she knew do odd jobs for her and he did good work so I'm gonna call him and see if he wants to earn some extra money. He's probably in his early - mid 20s now - bought a house to the E of me the other yr so he's only a few miles away. He's a big guy so moving appliances around or lifting the sink won't be a problem for him. I just hope he wants work. my sister told me the other wk she thought he had a gf now so maybe he doesn't have any spare time. puppy and I are spending the afternoons over there. She plays and i try to work (or nap in the a/c). She's a pest tho - all she wants to do is play! I can see that whatever flooring I put down won't look new very long... not the way she skids thru the house chasing her toy (that someone throws as far as she can to get a few seconds of peace). I finally found my level today so I'm going to attempt to put up some shelves tomorrow. I moved the level and haven't been able to find it for wks. Hated the idea of buying another one... I'd already checked for studs and marked them so I hope it flies right along after I mark up the wall with a level line to drill the braces in. I'm sure this is more than you really wanted to know - lol!

I have the Kohler Forte K10441 with separate sidespray (I did not want a pull-down spray in case they started to "sag" after awhile). It has the brushed finish, and it is SO easy to keep clean: no rigids or other places for gook to hide. I'm not sure what you mean by "buttons" though...only the sprayer has a button on the "trigger". Maybe my model is different than yours.

I won the faucet via the bidding process on eBay for $97.50 plus $19 shipping for a total of $116.50. The seller was 'jzncr' jzaydel@vbhcs.org. I tried to bid on several others, but didn't win because the price went higher than I wanted. I was patient though and won it at a great price (retails for $360, available at other online sites for about $240). That was back in Jan., so I don't know the going price now. Good luck!

We had purchaed the Kohler from Home Depot for $199. We will return that as we got another on e-bay with a "buy now" for $135 including shipping. Other bids I have been watching have been higher, but some of the other "buy-now" prices have been in the $150 including shipping range.

Hi Everyone, I decided on the Kohler Forte; it's installed and it looks and works great. Also, I considered buying one from Ebay for $117, before making my purchase at Home Depot; however, when I asked the ebay seller about the lifetime warranty, he told me he wasn't sure and to check with the manufacturer.

Kohler told me they do not warranty products sold off of Ebay with non-authorized dealers. So be careful who you purchase your faucet from. Thank again to everyone here for their feedback.
