Integrated Dishwasher Suggestions
Comments (14)"Anyone who wants flush installation of appliances should read the installation instructions, many of which say that 25" from wall is required for flush integrated installation." Correct ! but you simply stated that any brand would be fine and went out of your way to promote the KA as an acceptable solution - when in fact it is not for the look the majority of people are after when they want a disappearing DW. This is not simply a case of foreign vs. domestic cabinetry or the depth of the Euro's being less. The N.A. standard carcass depth is 24" Period! Add to that the typical door of 3/4" and the KA simply WILL NOT WORK in that depth if one want to maintain a constant plane across the run of cabinets! I won't even go into trying to integrate a KA into framed inset cabinetry. It ain't pretty. "Miele's DW's may be easier to seat flush in a 24" cabinet, but their warming drawer doesn't. " Correct again! They did a piss poor job of implementing this product, and there are several better choice out there. but........................this discussion isn't about warming drawers or Miele! I could list you a dozen products in a minute or two that fail miserably in the marketplace, so what ??? "For the custom handle, any custom panel appliance will work. For flush installation, read the installation instructions to know the depth requirements!" Wow, what a revelation, thanks for playing. hey dodge - I TOTALLY disagree with you re: KA and Miele having the same quality - especially in DWs. KA has been steadily going downhill in quality the last decade and especially in the last 5 years. KA DWs of the 60's and 70's were very very good. Some of the early 80's gear was still top drawer too. Since Hobart's divestiture of the division things have not been as solid. This is also from personal experience, and I guarantee you I have, see in the field , and go through a lot more DW's than 99.9% of the public. Leaving your marketing bias out of it, you actually think KA's pumps, seals, racks, latches, stainless steel , fit and finish , and warranty are equal to Miele's ???...See MoreCould you review my cabinet layout before we 'lock-in'?

Range to sink and Ref to sink are critical to how a kitchen functions because they are frequently walked. People are concerned because the ref is around the corner and far from a sink (think its at least 16 feet one way). So everybody is suggesting to do something about the sink position or add a sink. Guessing from the cabinet measurements, I think your island could up up to two feet longer. This would allow you to have a nice eight foot long island with the sink and dw and trash in it and maybe an 15" drawer or door unit. You would have 8 feet of the one foot deep cabinets or a single seater stool. This would change the outside wall configuration - like have a 30" drawer base with micro, range, 15" pullout or drawers, 36" super susan, and up to 3 36" drawer units and a 30" drawer unit on the back wall. (There rather disguised hints in there that the pullout and super susan would be perhaps difficult to access and that the micro might be better off in a place where it didn't face another major appliance and was closer to the range and ref). From a kitchen users perspective it's really a case of figuring out where you want to chop and how far you want to walk! There isn't much difference between prepping between the sink and the range on the outside and the sink and the range on the extended island except for steps to the ref....See MoreTrash can cabinet vs extra column of drawers
Comments (61)I love my new double bin trash pullout. It solved 2 problems: 1. My first problem was with one of my dog's - Mocha. He is sort of a brainiac, and over the years has learned how to step on the trash bin pedal to open it up, and then search for "snacks". Heck, he's the reason I didn't get one of those foot pedals for water for the sink. There's no way he can figure out the trash pullout unless he decides to use his teeth on the pull. And he's getting old enough now that his teeth shouldn't be that strong anymore! ;) 2. The second problem was with my husband. It is a war to get him to take the trash out unless it's nearly overflowing - or they simply can't cram anything else into the bin. I swear they would walk a mile around a pile of trash before they would take it outside. Our outside trash is far enough away that it's a pain, but he should really just do it on his way out the door in the morning. The problem with that is, it's nearly overflowing by nightfall or after dinner. Now with 2 bins in the pullout, I can at least tie up the full bag so that no one else can try to cram anything else into it. There is a second one there for them to start on. Mocha is also bewildered where his snack bin has gone to....See MoreStorage on back of cab doors--my solution

The hooks worked great and came off with no trouble when it was time. I just brought home a new batch of them yesterday to hang measuring cups and spoons on the door of my baking supplies cabinet. I saw that they have larger decorative hooks too, and I am contemplating using those to hang towels so I don't have to drill holes through the tile (whenever our tile gets installed...). Some of the big hooks are metallic, either chrome or brushed stainless or ORB-looking (some are made of actual metal too). I am thinking those might look nicer than the white plastic ones. I also probably need to retire the magnetic write-on wipe-off board that I keep on the fridge for jotting down grocery needs (the board is at least 15 years old and has ads for cattle vaccines on it). I already have some picture hanger things that I haven't used so I should probably move the grocery list to inside a cabinet door, maybe a pad with paper I can just tear off and take to the store. I saw the caddies you mentioned when I was getting the hooks at a local hardware store. The ones I saw were about the right size for sponges or scrubbies but without the vent holes at the bottom....See Moreillinigirl
