Location of Tapmaster / Trash Foot Pedal / Prep Sink

My prep sink will be in a 33" cabinet; main sink in a 36" cabinet. Prep sink will be 21" Franke/Peak.

Can I get a tapmaster, trash foot pedal, trash pullout, solon inset composter (8" deep; 9.25" wide) all into the same cabinet or will this drive the installer (DH) insane?

Also, if you have a tapmaster or trash foot pedal in one sink area (prep), do you miss it at the other (clean-up)? Do I dare order both and risk divorce and worse -- loss of skilled installer who works for free?

I am thinking it makes more sense to have them in the prep area, if I can only pick one area.

We originally considered something like the tapmaster (you're talking about a foot-controlled sink, right?) I made a lot of bread by hand and totally get the appeal of not using your hands to turn on the faucet. But then we learned about Delta's Touch2O touch-controlled faucet. It's much cheaper, so we're going that route instead, on both prep and main sinks.

We're putting our trash pull out (with foot pull, not pedal) going out of the island, toward the hallway by our command center/mud room/pantry. Again, the pull was cheaper than the pedal.

I think both the Touch20 takes less undermount room than the tapmaster, and the foot pull takes less space than the pull (the former goes behind the cabinet, where the pull seems to be a magnet in front).

I'm not good at describing all the technical details, but hopefully some combination of the above will help you get a kitchen that works they way you want it to!

oldbat2be, we put our tapmaster only on our bigger island sink, not the "cleanup" sink. I guess it might be our "prep" sink even though it's bigger than the other sink. I don't know if we'll miss it on the other sink since our kitchen isn't done yet, but you could always add it later as I don't think it's too hard to retrofit.

Fitting all that stuff I would think might be a challenge. We have a farmhouse sink and our plumber was worried about fitting an instant hot, a water chiller, a tapmaster and a garbage disposal under there in a 36" wide cabinet. We gained a few inches b/c we made our island taller (unrelated reasons) but they still said it was a lot to cram under there.

Are you using the Hafele foot pedal for your trash? You know it's only for frameless cabinets right? My cabinet maker had to modify it to work w/ our non-frameless ones. Not sure how he is doing it, but it is costing us more than 1 hr. of his time in the quote. I believe (but am not certain) that there was also a comment that the instructions came only in German!

ICFgreen, Brizio (I believe) also makes a faucet like the Touch. We originally thought of using the touch but it does not go w/ our kitchen at all. The good thing about the tapmaster is you can use any faucet you want.

In your picture, the cans sit on a base. I believe that my modifications will also work with your situation (cans sitting on a base). However, you will need to make one minor modification that I did not do. That modification has to do with the elastic cords that come with the pedal. Elastic cords (ie, bungee cords) pull the door open when the pedal is kicked. You would have to alter where the front of the cords are mounted inside the cabinet. Very easy to do. Earlier posts on this thread refer to a version of the Hafele pedal for trash cans which sit on a base. I have not seen this product. I suspect they use the identical pedal, but altered the instructions relative to the location where to mount the elastic cords. . In other words, your trash bins should be hanging from a rail attached to the door OR sitting on a shelf attached to the door. The door should pull open like a drawer (not swing open like a normal cab) and as it pulls open the trash bins come out with it. Note that Hafele makes two different pedals, one for the bins hanging from rails and one for the bins sitting on the shelf. I'm not clear on which one you've linked to above. Also note that these foot pedals are designed for frameless cabs. I don't know if they can or have been used on framed cabs and would be interested to hear about that if anyone has. The pedal needs to be in the location that is the natural place for your dominant leg. For example, if you're right handed (and footed) with a wide sink you stand centered at, you'll probably want it slightly to the right of center. If a double sink with unequal sizes you would probably want it centered or slightly to the right of the bigger bowl. So if the toekick heater is going to interfere with the proper placement of the Tapmaster foot plate you're probably better off not getting it. Or, can the heater be installed to one side of the cabinet (or in the adjacent cabinet that's not the dw side) to get it out of the way.

Tapmaster, euro style (bar hanging down. Love it. The only problem, the one I didn't think about, is that the locations, which are based on the midlines of the sink (it's a double controller for two sides of the island), are best activated with my right foot, and I seem to want to use my left! So a little dancing happens when I'm not thinking about it and use the wrong foot. Pretty much a pas de bourrÃ©e, I think.

Yes, exactly. My sink is keyhole shaped. The narrow part is a trough toward the front of the island, and the circle is a deeper bowl toward the back. The sink sits on the right hand edge. Both controllers are on midlines to the drain. One controller is about where the edge of the mat is in the picture, and the other is in front of the bowl, on the side with no drawers. Behind the prep area (drawer side) is the stove, whereas directly behind the side area is the ovens and baking area. The trough is great for staged cleaning as below, but when I'm just washing a bunch of cherries or something, I throw them in the colander and wash them in the bowl from the side of the island. Additionally, the faucet is right there for wetting or rinsing hands during baking just opposite. I didn't even know they made the double controller unit. I called to find out if it could work (figuring plumber input), and they said they had one ready to go. It's great having handsfree operation from both sides, even though it's a small island and not hard to walk around.

Beagles, my uber-smart hubby speaks German (and Dutch, and English, and French), so we'd be okay! :-)

I didn't know about the Brizio, but the sensor faucet is more expensive that the touch one.

ICFgreen and Beaglesdoitbetter -- belatedly, many thanks for your feedback and suggestions. We are just now turning to the foot pedal. Think we may go with the tap master. OT -- Beagles -- are you moved in yet? Haven't seen any recent posts but have really enjoyed watching your oh so fabulous home take shape. (How on earth do you plan a wedding with all that going on?!!)

So far in the cabinet we have 3 trash pullouts, (2 recyling, 1 trash), 2 tilt downs, eventually, 1 12" drawer (side support to be built), Franke Peake sink, plumbing (island plumbing to code no less thank you very much; bow vent extended to adjacent cabinet) and nice shelf built by DH for NeverMT. I'm sure DH will figure out a way for tap master to work, though for once it might be nice for him if I gave him the specs before I ordered the part.
