Persil - how much does it really cost per load?
Comments (4)I just weighed a flat tablespoon of Persil Universal Megaperls at 11.74 grams. Measuring to grams gives a much more accurate measurement than ounces. That means a 3.038 kg box contains 260 Tbsp. Using these numbers you should get closer to 87 washes out of a single box. Using the $41.99 online price at Better Products Online for a 3.038 kg box, your value is closer to 48 cents per load using my calculations. Henkel bases the number of loads on a 67.5 gram dose (divide a 3,038 g box by 45 loads). At 11.74 g/Tbsp, that comes to 5.75 tablespoons per dose. Since 1 Tbsp = 14.79 ml, 5.75 Tbsp = 85 ml. So it would appear that Henkel bases the number of loads on an 85 ml "middle of the road" dose that is right in the center of its dosage chart. Cost per tablespoon is somewhere around 15 cents....See MoreDo fireplace doors really cost this much !!
Comments (8)There are many options that are available for many times less than you were quoted. Most already include the mesh screen as well, but since you have that I suppose you could omit that during installation. I googled fireplace doors at the link below and in the shopping section, you'll see how many places sell less expensive options. DH has installed them in 4 different fireplaces we've had. When we needed one, we just searched for one that fit the size opening and was a style we liked. Even big box stores like Lowes or HD have them available at certain times, though in limited styles. The ones we've purchased were really easy to install as they fasten into place using a clamping system that isn't visible once installed that comes with the doors. Fireplace stores are notoriously expensive but it's nice to be able to see what they'll look like. Your big box stores will also have some on display when they have them available. Here is a link that might be useful: Fireplace Doors...See MoreHow much do you really need?
Comments (7)I sincerely doubt you are insurable at this point. Most plans would require you pay a high percentage over even the Standard rate, or make you wait at least a year before writing coverage on you. celticmoon is correct on the healthcare costs. A comprehensive health insurance costs slightly over $1K/mo. average for a couple. The advantage is that they can't drop you since it is a continuation of coverage. Also, wasn't there something in the President's stimulus plan about helping to pick up some of the cost of COBRA insurance for the unemployed - although I'm not sure that would cover self-termination/retirement, it may be restricted to those who are laid off. Maximum you would want to take is a 4% distribution annually. I have no idea what the immigration policy is in England, but your dollars would not go far as currently the US dollar is weak vs the pound, about $1.64/one pound. Canada's immigration policy varies per province. British Columbia is now almost completely closed to immigration unless you have $300K cash and intend to open a business. I think some of the other provinces are more open to immigration, but you will be contending with more severe weather. It's no joke how cold it gets in Calgary (my MIL's relatives live there so she visits regularly...in summer!). If you are really strapped for cash and want to retire, I'm afraid going South of the border is your best alternative. There are many cities with US ex-pats and very good healthcare. We have friends who have had to move out of the US because they couldn't afford to retire here. You should note that Medicare does NOT cover anything if you live outside the US. Medical care in South and Central America can be very good, however, and is inexpensive by US standards. Panama, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Mexico all have large ex-pat communities....See MoreHow much *should* this kitchen cost?
Comments (40)We have a bathroom in our kitchen! Yays! lol It was already in place when we moved in and there was no other practical place to put it on that floor (and it's the only bathroom on that floor), so as undesirable as it was, it was what we were stuck with. Getting rid of it would have meant traipsing down a flight of stairs and walking through a bedroom to go to the nearest bathroom. That was a lot more unacceptable to me than having a bathroom in the kitchen! ;) After living here for many years, I can honestly say that it hasn't been a problem at all and has worked out fine for us. Much ado about nothing, as far as I'm concerned. :) To save some $$$, you might want to consider RTA cabinets, such as Barker or Scherrs. Ours were roughly half the cost of cabs from a big box store but the quality was just as good, if not better. I would say that your kitchen needs more drawers, but I'm obsessed w/drawers, so keep that in mind. :D...See Moreebse
