what to do about my kitchen cabinets??

greetings!

ok, i have good 'ole generic stock light oak cabinets from the homes builder (the house is about 20 years old in the fall)and they were a bit yucky (greasy/dust on the outside and the roller hardware for the drawers deteriorating) when we bought the house 11 years ago.

they are a functional mess - the pantry is WAAAY too deep and too tall, and the rest of them aren't deep enough (i can barely get a 9inch plate in them!). there is practically NO storage and the drawers are nothing special, just concerned about the roller thingies inside. then there's the funky corner cabinet that i don't even want to talk about! we do have great granite counter tops and plan to stay in the house at least another 5-7 years.

my dilema is this: dear hubby wants to just get an ikea kitchen (new cabinets only). i don't mind that, but am concerned about how they'll hold up (we have a 7 year old daughter-'ladybug'). or i'm wondering if we should just spend the money and get some better quality cabinets ala kraftmaid, but am concerned about the cost. we don't have alot of money.

any opinions, suggestions are very welcomed. thanks!
