I'm glad it is working out. I have no idea of what your costs are but you might have paid a great deal more for the kind of individual attention you are referring to if you could have found it at all. In order to make a living a lot GC's juggle many jobs which means sometimes another job (with a client that wants the same amount of individual attention as you do) will take precedence. Most have a tough balancing (and scheduling) act trying to keep everyone happy.

Given that the cabinetry is different than the plan (I'm assuming the GC was expecting the same thing you were from the cabinetmaker) it is hard to fault him on the pendants. I would certainly broach that issue with him now rather than waiting to see. Second guessing is sort of an inevitable process but once you are done you might find you made a better choice than you are giving yourself credit for at this moment.

Have them move the light boxes. Not that difficult, and just some drywall repair. You have adjusted your expectations plenty, insist this be done to your liking. I can't wait to see the finished result! Such a stressful process, isn't it? Hang in there!

They can definitely move the light boxes. Depending on which way your joists run it could be easy or a little harder, but either way, you are not the one that extended the peninsula. So, they need to fix it.

Of course your husband was kidding. In a year from now, this will all seem like nothing. And, that first meal in your new kitchen will be totally worth all this anguish. If youre close to granite being installed, the end is near!

caryscott - the thing is, the main reason I hired him is because I was expecting that type of attention. He told me I would get it. It's sort of a long story, but he's really just "starting out" in the business, having spent most of his working life doing something else and doing this as sort of hobby/past-time. Right up until we hired him, he wasn't really working on multiple jobs at once. Now, all of a sudden, he's too busy and he ends up NOT being at my house for days at a time, leaving unskilled workers there and having them make mistakes, and making mistakes himself - probably because he's rushing!!!

And not to sound too nasty, but I really don't care who else he is making happy at this point. He promised me things and is not coming through. I'm a little extra crabby right now because yes, it's 1:30 on Thursday, the granite is coming tomorrow, and he's NOT at my house to make the corrections that need doing before the granite can be installed. My husband thinks he plays golf on Thursdays...I am not a happy camper right now.

Well, it's 6:30 a.m. No contractor all day yesterday. Granite coming for install at 8:00 a.m. Nothing "readied" by contractor since he hasn't been here in 2 days, since the granite was measured. Not sure what will happen. Three (3) electrical outlets MUST be removed before the granite can go in. They are physically in the way.

Not sure how this is OK with my husband, who spoke with the builder 2 times yesterday. Was told he would be here to "get it done" in time. Again, not sure how that's gonna work.

Today's mantra: It will work out. It will work out. It will work out.

The first piece of granite is installed. My husband just e-mailed me a picture. He said the builder got there and "did what he needed to do." I think that means he at least physically moved the outlets.

I told him to e-mail me more pix as the countertops go in. Even my crappy mood can't keep me from getting excited when I see how the cabinets look!

Yay! Glad the GC got there and did what needed doing so your install could take place - are you just loving it tonight?

I feel your pain!!! There is still so much to do and my contractor told me 2 weeks for the whole thing and we are already 5 days in with not that much done. We also went with a less expensive contractor to save cost but are certainly paying the price. Granted I wouldnt have been able to get all that I am if we went with the other guys but man what a PITA.
