I love your sense of humor. Every time I see one of your posts I open it regardless of the subject. You are able to bring a chuckle to whatever is being discussed, no matter how important or how trivial.

For many of us who can get distracted with being TKO, it is a breath of fresh air.

Keep it up! Seriously though, start jotting down those notes for a book. I will be your first preorder.

Lynn, that's very nice of you! It's really nice to know I've given someone's day a laugh. That's a purpose of life!

Ironically, IRL, I'm one of those people you either dislike on site, or you get to know me and love me. Either way, my tombstone will say, "She was never mediocre."

Someone said the same to me about a book once, or that I should blog everything. I've started feeling that if I could corral all my words of wisdom posts in one place, I might at least have a record of the trials and tribulations that have kept me laughing. Ok, sometimes hysterically, sometimes insanely, and sometimes just deep evil chuckles, but laughing nonetheless!

I feel I've lived through the perfect example of (correctly quoting Nietzsche) "That which doesn't destroy (not "kill') us, makes us stronger."
And I think there's strength in the ability to laugh.
Never ask, "What next, God!?" or
"Could it get any worse!?"
Because ....
you ....
know ....
somewhere ...
for someone ....
it most certainly has.
We are very lucky and very blessed, even in our worst moments.

So you gotta laugh. :) After all, that's why God invented red-butted monkeys that just have sex in the jungle all day long. (Talk about wishing for a headache!)

Hi everyone, I have finally decided to take that leap of faith and write a book. I want to write about Community Gardens in Canada. I am an active participant in CG"S here in my part of Canada and I love it. I want to write a book that will educate, motivate, inspire and entertain. I am hoping to open people's eye's and hearts and make them want to take action to make Canada greener. I want to start a revolution!! :) Here are the things I want to know. India is such a huge country, with such a diversity of cultures, races, ethnic origins, available ingredients, outside influences, historical events...basically such a diversity of everything, that the term "Indian Cuisine" shouldn't even be used, except in the broadest sense. To know that the British held sway in India for as long as they did, one can't really credit that cream was not adapted as a culinary ingredient. Even if it had been completely unknown prior to that era, which can hardly be the case in any culture where milk is utilized, it surely would have worked it's way into usage by now. Yogurt is much more common (which isn't surprising, considering the lack of refrigeration in a primarily warm country)of course, but I have seen quite a few recipes calling for cream. And, though considering the antiquity represented by the cuisines of India, I am but the merest novice (I've only been playing with it for about 10 years), I think I can trust myself to recognize recipes that have been re-written for the non-Indian cook. Potatoes are quite the popular ingredient, used by many of the Indian peoples, both in meat dishes, vegetable dishes, and alone. In fact, one of the things I love about the use of the potato in India, is that with the creative and judicious use of spices, herbs and other vegetables, the potato as cooked by an Indian housewife can be the nutritious, healthy food that it so often isn't in Western cooking, by the time we lace it with butter, cream, or cheese as is so often our wont. Jessica, Indian cooking can be very healthy indeed! (Leaving out the tendency toward deep fried snack foods!) While many recipes call for ghee (a form of toasty, clarified butter), you needn't add it with a lavish hand as the flavor is quite rich and distinctive. In many recipes, you can substitute olive oil quite easily, if you prefer. The use of so many spices and herbs, and the various methods in which they are used lends such flavor to meats, vegetables and grains that the addition of copious amounts of fats or yet salt, becomes unnecessary. Naturally, there are those curries that include fatty coconut milk, but then, if you eat the way a person in India eats, you won't be eating a big bowl of it, but a small portion along with vegetables, legumes and grains. My love affair with the cuisines of India began with Dal. The lowly lentil, which was to my knowledge just something one made a pot of soup with sometimes, has been transformed into a magical food ingredient by the hands of Indian cooks. I have read that it is a rare meal in India that does not include some version of legume. What we classify as lentils, peas and beans are all, "dal." Dal can be served in soups, porridge, breads, crackers, chips, snack nibbles, fritters, used as a base for thick sauces, toasted into crunchy bits to add texture, as a base for curries and stews...gosh, I'm sure I've left some uses out. And they are so good for us! High in fiber, satisfyingly filling, cheap sources of protein, minerals and vitamins. Okay, enough of my raptures...:D Earlier in the thread, someone mentioned wanting a Southern Indian cook book? I've a wonderful book that introduced me to the Vegetarian cuisine of Southern India, a style of eating quite different from much of what we Westerners think of when we think Indian foods. The recipes are mostly excellent but I must caution that the use of hot chilies is quite lavish. I have been accused of having an "asbestos mouth" by friends, but still I cut back quite a bit on the number of green, hot chilies and dried peppers the recipes call for. I have a 3 yo. He likes the books that relate to him. Some of his favorite books are the "No, David" books by David Shannon. The character, David, in the books acts like DS, but has the same name as one of DS's friends. DS thinks these books are great. DS is also at a stage night now where books without a storyline appeal to him. My fil introuduced DS to magazines that sell big construction equipment like bulldozers, backhoes, etc. These magazines were just ads for selling the stuff. No storyline. DS can sit and look at these magazines for hours. DS also likes the books that rhyme. Right now he likes books that only have about 4 lines per page, but he is getting better about paying attention to the longer books. As a parent reading a book to my child, I prefer a storyline. Regardless of what my child picks out, I have to find the book interesting. If I don't like the book, that book may not get read again. Books I don't like...disappear. As far as certain topics like smoking, drinking, etc., I would never let my child read those books. I would probably ask to have them removed or placed in a seperate section if I saw them in the kids section of the library.

Although people will offer you rules and advice, Kipling realy was right. You must find your own way. Every rule that we will propound, some quite notable writer has defied with grand success. Even the research rule: Mary Renault would settle down and write a novel about ancient Greece deliberately without cracking open a single research text. Then, after the first draft was done, she'd research it down to the bone. She said that if she researched it first the story would suffer. There are writers who keep voluminous notes and travel to all the sites of the work before they begin. There are writers who have NEVER been to the venue of their best work. (Edgar Rice Burroughs never went to Africa, SF writer Isaac Asimov could not bear to fly in planes, and you can take it to the bank that Jules Verne was never twenty thousand leagues under the sea.) There are writers who write with pencils, with pens, on laptops, and with Palms. I know of one writer with a disability, who dictates her work to a computer fitted out with voice-recognition software. There are so many variations, that it is almost impossible to generate rules. If the only way you can write is to engrave the words with a stainless-steel burin onto the side panels of late-model GM cars, go for it. Brenda

Yes. I have two college daughters. I hope they are spared some of the struggles that it seems you have faced. I know, though, that they will have struggles of some sort because everyone does! For whatever the future holds for them, I would love for them to be armed with your survival instinct, resourcefulness, brains and sense of humor! And your attitude. All of it. The good, the bad and the ugly! They like chocolate, so they could easily be mentored by you! So, yes. You should write a book. I will pre-order copies for my daughters and for their friends that I consider my bonus daughters. And one for my young son's future bride. He doesn't date yet, so you have a little time.
Should we all help with a title? I'm thinking...

I know someone personally who ended up writing a book, and the bulk of it was taken from a forum chronicle she was keeping.

If you have been here eight years I can only imagine the literary fodder1

a blog in the least...you have so much more qualification than a large number of so called bloggers out there.

Red-butted monkeys....ROLF hysterically!! I always loved watching them at the zoo!

Seriously, I've had a really hard day/week, just finished yet another round of sanding/finishing of my walnut and grabbed a beer and my iPad to relax a few. Open your post and BAM!, my mood was instantly changed. You really do have the knack and a distinctive literary voice. And your self-deprication adds a twist.

Time to search for old posts if you haven't kept a record and get started on the book - cookie dough must be in the title! I wonder how many GW subscribers there are? You might get quite a few pre-orders, including me. Thanks for keeping us entertained and light-hearted!!

debrak2008, yes you certainly got it right! I'm surprised/flattered that you remember. That was a few springs ago. Did I tell you guys this winter I had a raccoon peer down at me, as I was lying in bed contemplating my day? I'm not sure who was more startled, but I sure didn't poop on HIS pillow!

NG-POC-EX-GC-DH is a long one, isn't it! But you all fleshed it out. I'd not done the NG part, but No Good Piece of Crap, ex-General Contractor D***** Husband is now the full translation. Have I told you he's fat? hahahahahhahahahha mwahhhhhhhaaaaa

Deedles, please! That's a poor woman's Botox! I should put a chin strap under my chin, though, for an instant, youthful visage.

I like the idea of chocolate, chocolate chip cookie dough, but we'd have to work in wine, espresso and Reese's cups. I have expanded my dietary regime recently. I've been having a chicken curry sandwich at work. Don't much like the chicken part, but the curry elements are deeeeeeelishhhhhhh!

So, if we were to write a book -- because I couldn't do it without you guys -- where and when should we start?

Funny, but I couldn't figure out the POC in your post - I can think of any number of men I have had in my life that fall into the Piece of Crap pile!!!

My sister and I are always looking for a way to make lots of money so that now, as we are beginning our "twilight years" we can say FO (I think that is an easy one - heh?) to the one POC we have left!

Reading this post, you may have given me an idea... Duct tape - a new form of Spanx - it should be strong enough to pull any of the body parts up that are lower than where they were years ago - and there are so many attractive colors and patterns now.

Hell it was good enough for Honey BooBoo's Mama June, it did make her look like she shed a few pounds - or maybe it was just a camouflage (I know - poor joke - but I am laughing at myself, which is better than no laughter at all.)

Save your posts from here. There is a great wealth of humor here for sure.

Lynn_r_ct, I like that idea.
I was actually considering an infomercial deal for my blue, painter's tape Botox, but they wanted to use a younger model, which I thought defeated the purpose. Perhaps we can team up.
But we gotta figure out something for that duct tape glue. It can pull your skin off if on too long, so maybe we can use electrical tape. If my NG, POC, ex-GC, ex-DH can put his thumb back on with it, it might work for a more slender appearance.

Oh - How should we abbreviate Lyin', cheatin' and so on?

You guys have really lifted my spirits with this funny, encouraging thread. But you do realize, don't you all, that encouraging me can be [Jaws music] dangerous.....
