Help! Farmhouse sink install
Comments (22)Step by Step Instruction I found this on a site to help you :) Step 1: Countertop Cut-Out. Use the sink upside down to trace the cut out of the countertop. Use precise measurements. Step 2: Cabinet Cut-Out. Cut the front of the base cabinet according to the front apron of the farm sink. Please note that the front of the sink is slightly tapered. This means that the width of the top is slightly wider than that of the bottom. You should make a template using heavy paper or carton so that your cabinet is cut at the same angle as the sink. Step 3: Supporting the Sink. Mount the undermount installation kit (WHUMSB) to the inner side walls of your cabinet. We then recommend putting plywood on the rods to create a large smooth flat surface. Drill the neccessary drain holes. If you did not purchase the kit you will need to create a custom support using 2x4's. Step 4: Leveling. Slide your sink in and make sure it is leveled on bottom and top. Make adjustments if necessary. Step 5: Sealing. Using a silicone sealer seal all edges of the sink to the countertop to prevent water from leaking into your cabinet. Enjoying. Invite all your friends and family over for dinner and show off your new gorgeous sink! * Recommend purchasing a stainless steel grid to protect your investment. Also here how to maintain your fireclay farmhouse sink... *For normal cleaning, we recommend scrubbing the surface of your fireclay sink using hot water and a soft sponge or cloth with a mild abrasive. Then wipe the entire surface with a dry, clean, soft cloth. *For heavy duty cleaning, and those tough marks, use any general purpose cleaner. The most recommended cleaning product is "Astonish". This can be found in most Super Market chains as well as on eBay! As a cheaper and easier product to find, AJAX works just fine even for those annoying pot marks. *Do not use any metallic wire sponges, this may cause damage to the sinks finish Here is a link that might be useful: How to install a Fireclay Farmhouse Sink...See MoreHelp! Comments (8)Not to discourage you, but it literally took my contractor 3 days to install my farmhouse sink. They were really nervous about it because they had never done it before, but luckily it came out well. Here's what they did: 1) They made a template based on the shape of the front of the sink. First they made a template out of cardboard, tested it to make sure it fit well with no gaps (they went through several iterations) and then once they got a good cardboard template they transferred it onto a piece of plywood. 2) Then they used the plywood template to cut out the front of the sink cabinet -- this was the scary part 3) Then they installed little 'shelves' (about 2" wide, running the the length of both sides of the sink cabinet) for the sink to sit on 4) The sink was 'loose' (meaning it was just sitting on the side support shelves not glued in our anything) until the counters were installed. When the counters where templated, they marked the sink in pencil (traced the outline of the sink along the cabinet edge) to show how far out it was supposed to be so that it would be in the same spot when the counters were installed. Here's how it looked in the end: My recommendation would be to find someone who has done this before... Another thing you need to decide before the counters are templated is what kind of reveal you want (positive, negative, or neutral) -- check out the atticmag.com sink gallery below for examples. I literally showed the Momto4Kids example to the templaters and told them to copy it. Comments (3)There is a Canadian soapstone company that had a lot of Youtube videos that I watched before choosing to install our counters DIY. I ordered from Dorado, the lengths I needed. I had a local stone fabricator cut the sink hole when I found that the stone in the sink location was too hard. I used a diamond bit circular saw to cut the lengths and backs to exact size. I think I did a great job. Check out the Canadian SS site for pointers and find their Youtube videos online for installation. Comments (6)I'm not a fireclay fan. If it chips, you're dead; no repair is possible. You can chip a Whitehaven. If you keep white-out over the chip, you may cover the exposed cast iron and slow its inevitable rusting and self-destruction. I'd suggest you look at an Elkay Quartz Luxe sink. The color goes all the way through so small chips and gouges aren't catastrophic. It is repairable and difficult to scratch . It isn't as shiny as the alternatives. If you're getting new cabinets, you can get the full apron sink; here's the short apron version....See Moredeedles
