Sneak peek of our cabinets installed

Here's a couple pics of the new cabinets. Finally, its starting to come to life! The floor is REALLY dusty, so you cant see it very well. I also included a pic of the marble slab we decided on for the island and the GE Monogram Ovens that were just delivered. Thanks for helping me through the decision process!

The granite is White Nebula. I've never heard the name used before except at this one granite yard. We saw another one called White Galaxy, at a different yard, that was similar, but had larger chunks of black in it. It's also very reminiscent of another slab I saw that went by the name Crazy Horse, but that one was much darker overall. Who knows with these granite names...

Thank you again -- have been sharing these responses with DH who is just tickled to hear them. He is mighty tired at this point but all of your praise has energized him to start thinking about that island . . . Answers to questions Kaismom -- you're correct -- when we moved in to the house the lowers were too shallow to house contemporary appliances so we had a carpenter pull them out but we didn't rebuild them in any fundamental way. Inside they were just big empty cubes. Now we have pullouts and more useable storage in less space. Theresse, we totally dismantled the cabinets. We built the two class cupboards from scratch using old wood, and we reused the old leaded glass doors. You can see in the before photos that in the original uppers the cames did not align with the shelves. Just one of those little things that always bothered me. We fixed that! We used doors from above the old cooktop to make the new lower cabinet on the far left-- these had to be taken apart and resized. The sink wall, not visible in this photo, is new build using old wood. For example, DH made a panel for the integrated dishwasher using a center panel (cut to size and framed) from an old door we bought at salvage. The doors under the sink are original but had to be made smaller to fit under the apron sink. So, most of the time even what we repurposed had to be remade to fit the layout and the appliances. Only two of the cabinets on the other side of the room were left as-is, just refinished. We also took out an old doorway (door was long gone) and built an eyebrow arch that matches the contour of the arches in other rooms. We added crown molding and floor molding out of old gumwood as well. We kept the Lightolier tracks but replaced the old cans with new MR16 fixtures. We kept the built-in refrigerator (we put this in about 15 years ago, building an enclosure) but gave it new steel panels. We kept the pot rack! We kept some of the original hardware (latches and hinges) but added new pulls. Thanks again for all the comments! They are helping us gear up for the final spurt!

Hi Janet, I did not look at Medallion so I can't offer any comparisons. (I looked at some Lowe's cabinets -- Shenandoah, I think? And one other brand.) We received all the pieces we ordered off the truck in one piece. There was a delay, but the Amero people had nothing to do with it. Once the boxes were opened and installation began, we noticed two small issues on the front of the cabinet boxes, where the plywood is covered by a veneer so that the interior natural maple color does not show between the cabinet doors. These were such small issues that my husband and I didn't really care, but Pacific Crest is sending more veneer to repair the spots (free). There were more noticeable issues with the way the stain took on the side of two cabinet boxes, which would be visible in the finished kitchen. We didn't notice these in the garage pre-install, but in the kitchen in direct sunlight, my KD and I noticed them. She had the Pacific Crest rep come look at them. The rep suggested solutions which will more than address the problem from my perspective. In one case, they are actually building an entire new cabinet box for an upper, and he spontaneously offered to adjust the measurements to make the reveal on both sides of our kitchen window opening exactly symmetrical! From my point of view, they are going above and beyond to ensure our satisfaction. We took advantage of a promotion they had going on earlier this spring which allowed us to get Bellmont doors (the custom line) on Amero cabinets (the semi-custom line). Installation will not be complete for a few more weeks, so I can't tell you what it's like to live with them. However, we do have the doors on and the drawers in, I have spun the super susans around and put pots and small appliances on them, played with the soft close on the drawers till my husband told me I was acting a little wierd... I'm really happy with them so far. If there are specific details you are curious about, let me know... I'm going to be taking another round of pictures tomorrow, probably, so I can try to get closeups!

Oh my! Shopping was quite overwhelming. I found many slabs in the white / off white category (both granite and quartzite) that I could see in our kitchen. But then I saw the soapstone! Wow - it was gorgeous and I think it would go beautifully in our kitchen; however, DH prefers a granite. Stumbled onto a gorgeous honed via lactea granite that has a soapstone look. What do you think? Could I pair it with a carrara marble herringbone backsplash?

Gorgeous cabs! Stunning beveled transom! Knew you would pick the venetino. . . and it's a great choice! I[m betting that we're looking at another GW showstopper on the horizon! :)

Your kitchen is going to be gorgeous - you must post finished pictures when you are done.

I believe I saw on another thread that your cabinets are Bertch. Can you share the door style and the color of the painted ones? I am going to be considering Bertch also. Any feedback on how your carpenter thinks they are built? Any problems with them on delivery and install?

While I was waiting for your pictures to load, I was thinking, "Oh, goody, goody, goody, we get to see!" I was hoping you would post a progress report!

I thought of you yesterday and your trek on Mother's Day......looks like you were successful! Your cabinets look gorgeous! The white looks soft to the touch -- it is just yummy! Your Venatino will be a wonderful compliment to those as well as your soapstone, the ovens look like workhorses, the transom is fabulous, love the hutch details!

Thanks for sharing this step and so happy for you that you are nearing completion! Will you be cooking in here before the baby arrives??

Beautiful! It's coming together so nicely; it must be very gratifying. I love the marble slab. Are you building a new house or remodeling an existing one?

WOW...beautiful. I love the colour of your cream cabinets. I also really like that Venetino. I've seen it in person before and always thought it would make for a unique and stunning countertop.

katieob - Im excited to see our hood too! Wall color is SW Pavillion Beige. Island is Cherry with a Mocha stain.

buffalotina - Yep, they're Bertch. So far Im very happy with what I see. Stain & paint is all even, not sloppy like a lot of companies Ive seen. There are a couple drawers that may need adjusting, but thats really it. We went with the eggshell paint. Im SO glad I picked eggshell. That was a tough decision. Door style is Lexington. No problems with delivery or install. Our builder thought they were very nicely made. I was really impressed with the wainscoating, glad I paid the extra for that. The pulls and knobs are also included with Bertch. I hadnt decided on knob placement, so they arent up yet, but you can see the pulls. All of the pieces and parts were there, nothing missing.

alice - Im glad we made the trek, it really helped me feel good about the decision. It was a long day, but I survived. It should all (God willing) be done by mid June and Im due in August.

karena - Its a new build. I tried to add some character with things like the antique transom. Admittingly, Ive spent the most time planning the kitchen!

Wow...looks terrific. It's so nice to see the in progress pics of a kitchen whose layout is fresh in my mind. Love to see the transition from layout to reality!

Looks just like the renderings! I love it when that happens. It's all looking so great and your doorway is beautiful. Yours is the example I always think of when someone shows an 'impossible' stock plan kitchen layout to know there can be great possibilities.
I'm so impressed with the result, especially knowing from where you started.
