Butcher Block Countertops with a farmhouse sink?
Comments (10)Hydragea - We bought the house about two years old and there was already some minor water damage, but overall the butcher block still looked great. We tried oil for the top at first, but it didn't help. At some point, I put a coat of poly on the top which totally changed the look, but we were desperate at that point. The poly protected most of the top, but the biggest problem was next to the lip of the overmount sink. Water pooled there and you (or someone) had to be fast to wipe it up. This led to some separation and swelling of the butcher block sandwich and it was all down hill from there as water got into the unprotected wood underneath. I couldn't believe the mess underneath near the sink when the counter was replaced last year....See MoreWhat color wood floor for modern farmhouse light grey kitchen cabinets
Comments (13)I do like the cerused look myself and its really what I initially had in mind as my stain. Its not a finish everyone offers, is likely to be an upcharge if it is offered, and is going to look best on a rift or quartersawn white oak which isn't cheap wood to start with. I'm happy with how mine turned out and everyone who sees it seems to like it. It's driftwood on maple with an black glaze. Without the black glaze, the pink of the wood showed through and was too much. It's definitely grey, but it has an underlying brown and slightly pink tone so its warm and not GREY. I think it fairly different/unique/unexpected. Would probably have been a bit much for the entire kitchen though, I'd be careful of using grey flooring though, it's such a huge surface can be overwhelming....See MoreModern farmhouse kitchen design dilemma!!
Comments (15)"modern farmhouse" style is pretty amorphous. Plus it doesn't have to be a particular style, as long as it suits the rest of the house and works well with your furnishings. If you find yourself gravitating to blue -- which works well with gold, and brass (real brass, not eighties brass lol) -- do it, and don't worry about pigeonholing yourself into a particular style. The added bonus is that the modern farmhouse trend has been around for a while and is on the way out. You don't have to tie yourself to something trendy -- that's the other secret to achieving timelessness : ) ....See MoreHelp picking modern farmhouse kitchen floor tile!
Comments (5)@deegw The adjacent rooms are pergo laminate in crema. The problem is, the lighting in my kitchen drastically changes from the other areas and in my living room, the flooring is a nice tan /gray color and has a lot of warmth but when i layed peices out in kitchen, its loses all its color and becomes very silvery and washes out my kitchen and clashes with my counters. I wanted woodlook in my kitchen so bad but not if the color sucks. It would probably be weird to have a wood look tile or other laminate layed next to the pergo i would imagine, right lol? This is my livingroom flooring(im not home now so these are the best pics i have)...See Morepaulineinmn
